Chu Donglin had long discovered the astonishing speed at which his wounds healed. 0

In previous instances of injury, he noticed that energy within his body would automatically channel to the affected area, accelerating the healing process. 0

Moreover, if he consumed an Energy Core right after getting hurt, his body would extract a portion of the absorbed energy to repair the wound, allowing even severe injuries to recover swiftly. 0

Last night, while fighting a Mutated Zombie with bone spurs growing on its hands in a supermarket, he had sustained a large gaping hole in his chest. 0

However, after consuming an Energy Core and merely sleeping for a night, he woke up this morning to find that the wound on his chest had completely healed. 0

The speed of recovery was simply unbelievable—though the cost was significant; the energy consumption left him feeling quite pained. 0

Thus, during battles, Chu Donglin always tried to avoid injuries whenever possible. 0

After all, each additional wound consumed more energy, which meant less energy for him to absorb and a longer delay in his evolution—a situation that was hardly worth it. 0

Yet this time, the level of evolution exhibited by the Mutated Rooster was exceedingly high. If it weren't for Chu Donglin using various weapons to create a peculiar suppression effect on it, he would have likely been easily killed by such a creature at his level of Zombie. 0

Furthermore, the Energy Crystal provided Chu Donglin with energy that surpassed the total energy from the previous three Mutated Zombies, and even more! 0

The moment Chu Donglin consumed the Energy Core, a tremendous surge of energy erupted from his abdomen and rapidly spread throughout his body. 0

His body trembled as he felt that energy swiftly transforming him. 0

A fiery sensation surged within him, filling him from head to toe with warmth. It felt as if his insides had turned into a hot spring, constantly erupting with high temperatures. 0

The evolution this time lasted for more than half an hour. 0

Although Chu Donglin had not yet evolved to the Second Stage, he could feel the immense power surging within him. Compared to his former self, this half-hour transformation had completely revitalized him. 0

As the residual energy from the transformation rose from various parts of his body and merged into the Energy Crystal in his mind, Chu Donglin's entire body trembled, and he let out a hearty roar. 0

"Ha!" 0

With a fierce shout, Chu Donglin slammed his fist against the railing beside him. 0

A loud crash echoed as the stainless steel railing bent under the force of his blow, producing a piercing hum that resonated in the air. 0

Where his fist struck, it was as if a massive hammer had hit it head-on; the hollow stainless steel railing twisted and caved in, sending shivers down anyone who dared to look at it. 0

Such power, if unleashed on a living person, could instantly kill an adult, shattering their bones into pieces! 0

But that wasn't all. 0

Chu Donglin extended his right hand and touched his arm, noticing the solid muscles bulging beneath his pale skin. He flicked his fingers against it and felt as if he were tapping on stone. 0

He knew this was no illusion; his body's defensive capabilities had indeed strengthened. 0

When he tried to cut himself with a knife, what was once fragile enough to tear with a gentle pull now felt remarkably resilient, impervious to harm. 0

He gradually increased his strength, and only after applying a force far beyond that of an ordinary person did he manage to cut a gash in his arm. 0

Feeling the chipped blade, Chu Donglin finally understood why his hand had felt so numb when he had severed the Mutated Rooster's head; it was as if he had struck a stone. It turned out that a Zombie evolved to this extent had a body that was incredibly resilient. 0

"Ugh... damn it..." Chu Donglin felt the powerful force within him, his emotions were somewhat complex. 0

If he, as a First-Stage Zombie, was already this strong, how terrifying could a Second-Stage Zombie like White Wolf be? Initially, Chu Donglin thought that an ordinary Light Machine Gun would suffice to deal with White Wolf, but now, after realizing the power of the Mutated Zombie, he began to doubt his judgment. 0

Moreover, above Second-Stage Zombies, there might even be Third-Stage Zombies. 0

If First-Stage Zombies were already this frightening, what kind of monsters would those at that level be? Did humans without heavy weaponry still have any hope of surviving against such Zombies? 0

Thinking of the girl back home, Chu Donglin couldn't help but clench his fists; his desire to grow stronger became even more urgent. 0

He was a Zombie; high-level Zombies looked down on him, and low-level Zombies posed no threat. Only Zombies of the same tier were his enemies. As long as he focused, he ultimately wasn't that dangerous. 0

But Shishi was different. For all Zombies, living humans were a delicacy. 0

Even if High-Level Zombies no longer needed to consume human flesh, the blood and flesh of the living still held great allure for them. 0

If a Shishi were discovered by a more powerful Mutated Zombie, Chu Donglin couldn't imagine what that scene would look like... 0

"Let's get stronger... even if it's just to protect Shishi and survive, I will become the strongest Zombie in this city!" 0

Clenching his fists, Chu Donglin silently vowed that he would only become stronger, for only then would he have the right to traverse the lands of three provinces and return to Wangcheng to search for his parents. 0

Kicking aside the body of a mutated rooster that was as large as a calf, Chu Donglin strode toward the entrance of the market. 0

In this dark marketplace, encountering such a formidable mutated zombie was alarming; it seemed that no living being could escape unscathed. Staying any longer would be a waste of time, so he planned to head directly to the next market. 0

However, before that, Chu Donglin felt he needed to refuel his motorcycle. 0

Looking at the gauge, he shrugged and rode off in another direction. 0

Although Chu Donglin wasn't particularly familiar with Pear City, he had visited the city center many times, so he had some basic recollection of where the public facilities were located. 0

But to be honest, memories are often unreliable. Chu Donglin once again proved that vague recollections can't be trusted. Following the directions in his memory, he turned around the streets twice and soon found himself delightfully lost. 0

"Does it have to be this frustrating?" 0

After wandering around for more than half an hour without finding the gas station from his memory, Chu Donglin was left dumbfounded. 0

It wasn't until he accidentally knocked over his thirteenth unfortunate zombie that he finally located the gas station. By then, it was nearly noon. 0

"This is just ridiculous." 0

Under the midday sun, Chu Donglin arrived at the gas station on his motorcycle. 0

The first thing that caught his eye was two Zombies in work uniforms lying motionless on the ground, their heads smashed in, a truly gruesome sight. 0

Moreover, the pools of blood around them, not yet completely dried, clearly indicated that the murderer was likely still nearby and hadn't gone far. 0

Chu Donglin instinctively scanned his surroundings and noticed that there were hardly any Zombies on the desolate street. This was a relatively remote area, so such a situation was to be expected. However, those Survivors... well... 0

His gaze lingered on the supermarket entrance of the gas station, where he could see a trail of bloody footprints disappearing behind the glass doors. At that moment, the transparent glass doors were firmly shut, splattered with several alarming dark red stains. 0

As for the inside of the supermarket, it was empty and devoid of any signs of life. 0

Chu Donglin shrugged, uninterested in the unknown number of Survivors inside the supermarket. 0

He rode his motorcycle into the gas station, planning to fill up and leave. After all, they were just passing acquaintances; while he wasn't afraid of these Survivors, he had no interest in getting involved with them. 0

The incident with Shishi had taught Chu Donglin a valuable lesson: in the face of survival crises in this apocalypse, human kindness truly could not withstand the test. 0

Whether the Survivors here were good or bad, alive or dead, was none of Chu Donglin's concern; everyone should just look after themselves. 0

However, it didn't take long for Chu Donglin to be dumbfounded. When he picked up the fuel nozzle and pressed it without any response, he suddenly remembered that the entire city was currently without power. 0

Without electricity to operate it, the gas station's pumps wouldn't work, and he couldn't draw fuel from the nozzle. So how was he supposed to refuel his motorcycle? 0

Ultimately, Chu Donglin turned his attention to the supermarket—perhaps there would be a few barrels of gasoline inside? 0

Cough, cough... Although Chu Donglin knew that this fantasy was unrealistic, since he was already here, he couldn't leave empty-handed, could he? 0

With a machete in his right hand and a handgun in his left, Chu Donglin expressionlessly kicked open the glass door of the supermarket and swaggered inside. 0

"Big Sister! It's bad, that guy really went in!" 0

Just as Chu Donglin stepped through the supermarket's entrance, a nervous young man around eighteen years old shouted from the second-floor window of a residential building across the gas station. 0

His shout instantly drew the attention of everyone in the room, and the remaining few rushed to the window, gazing at the empty gas station with astonishment. 0

"He really went in? Why would he seek his own death like this?" 0

"Maybe he thinks there’s something good inside the supermarket? Ugh... what a tragedy." 0

"Why didn’t we warn him?" 0

"Who knows if he's a good person or a bad one? What if he tries to drag us down with him later? Don't forget that jerk from before; we just saved his life, and he almost got us killed." 0

"Sigh... Well, it's too late now. The deed is done; he's definitely doomed." 0

The girl referred to as "Big Sister" by that young man was actually quite young herself, around twenty-one or twenty-two. She had a tall and slender figure, with long black hair cascading down her shoulders, exuding a captivating aura reminiscent of ancient maidens. 0

Unlike most girls, she did not possess any delicate charm; nor did she exhibit the fierce demeanor typical of many strong women. Instead, she radiated a calm and composed presence, warm like a gentle breeze. 0

In the midst of the Apocalyptic Crisis, there was no sign of panic. The beautiful eyes held none of the confusion and fear that plagued most Survivors. Her steadfast and calm gaze was enough to quell any inner fears. 0

She walked calmly to the window, gazing at the motorcycle parked at the gas station. Ban Qingya shook her head and said, "Perhaps he won't die." 0

She observed the bloodstains on the front of the motorcycle, remnants of countless Zombies it had struck. "This Survivor is different from us; he is more reckless and stronger. To dare ride a motorcycle through this city infested with Zombies, he must have his own means of protection... perhaps he even has a gun." 0

As soon as Ban Qingya finished speaking, two Gunshots rang out from the gas station. 0

"What the hell! Shooting at a gas station? Is this fellow insane?" 0

A group of people stood dumbfounded. Although the gunfire had only sounded twice before falling silent, it was unmistakably Gunshots... Was this fellow out of his mind? Shooting in a gas station, didn't he fear blowing himself to pieces? 0

At the window, Ban Qingya let out a wry smile. "It seems his actions are somewhat reckless... or perhaps he's just brawn over brains?" 0

Then, from within the supermarket came a series of loud clattering sounds, clearly indicating that a fierce battle was taking place inside. 0

In this Silent city, those sounds traveled far; even from across the street, they could be heard clearly. 0

"I don't know if he's simple-minded or not, but is this fellow really human?" 0

The young man who had spoken earlier shivered slightly. "Inside there are Mutated Zombies that have evolved once, and they possess bizarre superpowers. Yet this fellow can fight them for so long... Is this something a human can really do?" 0

Ban Qingya tilted her head and listened for a moment, feeling puzzled. "If he can defend against that Zombie's superpowers and has weapons at hand, then a Martial Artist with years of training could indeed contend with a Mutated Zombie. But how is he dealing with such strange abilities?" 0

The sounds of clattering and banging in the gas station continued for three minutes before finally coming to a halt, plunging the place into an eerie silence. 0

Behind the windowsill, a group of people exchanged glances, uncertain of the situation. 0

"Is it over? Who won?" 0

"Isn't it obvious? That Mutated Zombie definitely won. How could any human possibly deal with such a non-human monster?" 0

"Exactly. If that fellow could shoot without hesitation, there might have been a glimmer of hope. But in a place like this gas station, he wouldn't even dare to fire his gun. Holding just a Machete, how is he supposed to fight against a monster?" 0

The group buzzed with speculation, each making guesses that aligned with the grim reality. 0

Even Ban Qingya sighed, her expression tinged with bitterness. During their exploration of the gas station, three teammates had perished in the clutches of that Mutated Zombie. 0

They had fought with all their might to escape, and it was only because the Zombie was eager to return to its fresh prey that it had abandoned them, allowing them to narrowly escape. 0

The two unfortunate Zombies whose heads had been smashed in were drawn by the scent of fresh human flesh when the Mutated Zombie was away, attempting to steal its spoils, only to be dispatched by the returning Mutated Zombie. 0

Ban Qingya's original plan was to rest here for a while and see if there was an opportunity to lure away the Mutated Zombie so she and her companions could re-enter the supermarket to find some gasoline and food. If that didn't work out, they would return to camp and discuss their next steps. 0

However, after witnessing yet another attack, she couldn't help but feel regret—had she known this would be the outcome, she should have loudly warned that person to leave when he entered the gas station; perhaps it could have saved his life. 0

Just as Ban Qingya was consumed by her guilt, the glass door of the gas station supermarket was pushed open. 0

A group of people stared in disbelief as Chu Donglin walked out of the supermarket unscathed, stepping back into the sunlight, leaving them all dumbfounded. 0

"How is that possible? Am I seeing things?" 0

"Did this fellow really take down that Mutated Zombie? What a joke! How could a human possibly be a match for a Mutated Zombie?" 0

Yet, no matter how incredulous they were, they could only watch helplessly as Chu Donglin rode away on his motorcycle with two barrels of gasoline. 0

"Wait! Is that gasoline? Damn it! He took the gasoline!" 0

"I can't believe it, it really is gasoline. He took the last two barrels! Did we come here for nothing?" 0

The group turned to Ban Qingya. 0

"Big Sister, what should we do?" 0

"Yeah, President, are we just going to let him take the gasoline without doing anything?" 0
