As Chu Donglin burst out, the Mutated Black Hawk let out an angry screech, thinking that the one who had hurt it was trying to escape.
It flapped its wings and chased after him, its sharp claws aimed directly at Chu Donglin, who was suspended in mid-air.
The fierce wind whipped through the air, causing Chu Donglin's hair to whip wildly around him.
He brought his hands together in front of him to block the hawk's claw strike, but the powerful recoil from the collision with the Second-Stage Zombie only accelerated his descent.
In that moment, Chu Donglin's body seemed to transform into a meteor plummeting downwards.
The howling wind rushed past his ears as his rapidly descending body carried terrifying kinetic energy. Just as he was halfway down, a massive beam suddenly flew out from a third-floor window, fortuitously landing right beneath his feet.
One end of the beam got caught in the window's bars while the other hung freely, perfectly catching Chu Donglin's falling body.
With a loud crack—
The piercing sound echoed as the wooden beam snapped in two, and even the metal security bars holding it twisted under the immense force.
However, thanks to this obstruction, Chu Donglin's fall was significantly slowed.
He executed a backflip and landed safely on the roof of a car by the roadside. The metal top of the car crumpled and twisted under his weight, but Chu Donglin emerged unscathed—well, not entirely; at least his feet felt a bit numb.
Before he could steady himself, a shadow suddenly loomed over him. The wind howled above as the Mutated Black Hawk shrieked and pursued him relentlessly.
Rolling on the ground, Chu Donglin awkwardly tumbled off the car to evade this attack from the black hawk. Unfortunately for the vehicle, its metal roof was shredded by the hawk's claws, exposing its interior completely to the sunlight.
Chu Donglin sprang up from the ground just in time to avoid the hawk's wing attack while channeling his Mental Power to manipulate a piece of rebar hanging from the hawk's body once again.
Thud—
Thud thud thud thud—
The simultaneous sound of flesh being pierced echoed through the air as Chu Donglin and the black hawk trembled, both struck by each other's attacks.
At the moment when Chu Donglin drove the remaining half of the rebar completely into the black hawk's body, the creature, in a fit of madness, flapped its wings violently. Its metallic-feathered body launched sharp feathers like flying daggers, catching the unsuspecting Chu Donglin off guard and leaving him battered and bleeding.
"Damn it!"
Chu Donglin had intended to press his advantage, but this sudden assault took him by surprise. He rolled away, covered in black feathers, and fled into an alley across the street.
Dark red blood gushed from his wounds, with at least twenty feathers embedded in his body. These feathers were sturdy and sharp, resembling real throwing knives. If it weren't for Chu Donglin being a zombie, a normal human would have been killed instantly by such an attack.
The alley was narrow, barely one and a half meters wide, just enough for a single person to walk through. The massive form of the mutated black hawk could not fit inside. As Chu Donglin tumbled deeper into the alley, he began to pull out the feathers lodged in his flesh.
Outside the alley, the black hawk screeched in fury, glaring menacingly at Chu Donglin hiding within. Without hesitation, it spread its wings and unleashed a barrage of black feathers once more.
While most of these feathers embedded themselves into the walls on either side of the corner, a few still flew into the alley, posing a threat to Chu Donglin.
Just as he pulled out the fifth feather, he had to leap away from his position and escape deeper into the alley. At that moment, a metal trash can suddenly lifted into the air, intercepting many of the incoming feathers.
Thud thud thud thud—
In a strange cacophony, the suspended metal trash can shook violently as it became riddled with black metallic feathers.
When Chu Donglin emerged from the other end of the alley, he had managed to pull out all the feathers from his body. His dark red blood stained him completely, giving him a tragic appearance.
This was another street; however, compared to where Chu Donglin had escaped from, this street was much narrower—only wide enough for two cars to pass side by side—making it a one-way street.
On either side of the road stood rows of maple trees. Although their dense leaves were somewhat dry and yellowing, they still provided shade overhead, dimming the light along this street significantly.
Moreover, the branches of the maple trees extended outwards, blocking many areas above the street and greatly limiting the diving attacks of the zombie black hawk.
Crack—crack—
Amidst the brittle sound of breaking branches, a massive shadow fell from the sky, smashing several protruding limbs and landing squarely in the middle of the road, glaring fiercely at Chu Donglin.
Chu Donglin shrugged his shoulders, feeling somewhat helpless.
"When will this endless cycle of revenge end, Brother Hawk? Why do you keep pursuing me so relentlessly?"
The street was littered with cars, leaning haphazardly in various directions. Like all the vehicles in this post-apocalyptic world, these cars had long lost their owners, quietly waiting for decay to take its toll, their surfaces coated in layers of dust.
However, there was at least one thing they still possessed: gasoline in their tanks.
Silently, the gas caps of several cars surrounding the Mutated Black Hawk popped open, and the gasoline inside began to float out under an invisible force, eventually forming a curtain of gasoline that slowly surrounded the Zombie Black Hawk.
The Zombie Black Hawk shifted its body, warily eyeing the floating gasoline that encircled it, emitting a gurgling sound from its throat. Its blood-red eyes glared menacingly at Chu Donglin but hesitated to act impulsively.
Having suffered significant losses in previous encounters, it no longer dared to attack recklessly. Instead, it trembled with madness and shot a barrage of dense feathers toward Chu Donglin as a test.
The black feathers pierced through the suspended curtain of gasoline and flew directly toward Chu Donglin. Just as it seemed he would be turned into a pincushion, a dusty wooden board lying on the roadside suddenly flew up and intercepted the barrage between him and the incoming feathers.
Thud thud thud thud thud—
A series of muffled sounds echoed as all the feathers penetrated the thick wooden board and continued toward Chu Donglin. However, after hitting the board, their momentum had significantly diminished.
Chu Donglin didn't even take a step back; all the incoming feathers came to a halt around him as if time itself had frozen.
He reached out to touch the feathers that had passed through the curtain of gasoline, feeling the dampness and smelling the oil. He smiled brightly. "Indeed, a beast is still a beast. No matter how strong it becomes, its lack of intelligence remains unchanged."
The Mutated Black Hawk watched from a distance, instinctively taking two steps back.
Although the provocative signal from Chu Donglin filled it with rage, a powerful instinct warned it of impending danger. It looked at the smiling face before it, the Blood-red Eyes flickering with a mix of hatred and fear, already contemplating retreat.
The rebar that had completely embedded itself within its body still throbbed with pain, instilling a sense of dread.
In fact, if it weren't for Chu Donglin's inability to manipulate the internal bodies of living creatures with his Mental Power, he could have easily caused some organ within this Zombie Black Hawk to revolt and eliminate this fellow.
With a wave of his right hand, all the gasoline suddenly flew toward the center.
The Zombie Black Hawk let out a terrifying shriek. Although it didn't understand what these strange-smelling liquids were, it sensed the danger they posed.
It tilted its head back and emitted a piercing scream, its massive body surged upward as it decided to retreat for the time being.
Its enormous wings, Madness, flapped violently, whipping up a whirlwind on the street. Many gasoline droplets were blown away, but more gasoline splashed onto the black hawk, soaking its feathers.
However, despite being drenched in gasoline, nothing could stop its ascent.
Unfortunately, there was too little space for flying in the street. While the black hawk could fold its wings upon landing without issue, spreading them to take off prevented it from soaring into the sky.
Two sturdy Maple Trees were struck by its wings. The tremendous force knocked countless leaves to the ground while the Zombie Black Hawk was hindered by the protruding branches and tumbled down instead.
Yet those two trees that had been hit were not unscathed; their tall trunks nearly toppled over, and their thick trunks almost snapped. As countless branches fell, the trees swayed dangerously close to collapsing under the impact.
Amidst the splattering dirt, several roots burst forth from the ground, showcasing their destructive power.
Meanwhile, the Zombies that had been wandering on this street fled in disarray at the onset of battle. Now, with two Second-Stage Zombies fighting fiercely, the destruction they caused drove them even further away in fear.
Their low intelligence might not allow them to comprehend the danger here, but the overwhelming aura of High-Level Zombies was enough to intimidate all Zombies from approaching recklessly.
On the empty street, Chu Donglin suddenly threw a lighter he held into the air. "Now you know to run? It's too late!"
As the crisis struck, the Mutated Black Hawk let out a howl of Madness, its powerful instincts as a Zombie driving it into a frenzy. Unable to take to the skies, it turned to flee, but suddenly, countless ropes shot up from the ground around it, ensnaring the unsuspecting Mutated Zombie in a tight grip.
Though these ropes were shaken off in the next moment by sheer force, the brief obstruction halted the Mutated Black Hawk's escape. The lighter thrown by Chu Donglin had already landed on its body.
With a soft click—
A small flame flickered to life from the lighter resting on the Mutated Black Hawk.
In an instant, the gasoline covering its body ignited, transforming the creature into a burning fireball that emitted a painful wail.
It flapped its wings in a Madness-fueled attempt to take flight, but in its panic, it could barely see where it was going. Several attempts to rise were thwarted by branches overhead. All it managed to do was knock down more branches and leaves without making any progress.
Amidst its angry and agonized cries, after multiple failed attempts to escape, the red-eyed Zombie Black Hawk set its sights on Chu Donglin, who stood calmly at the center. It charged at this enemy, whom it deemed responsible for its plight.
However, as its massive body barreled forward, several black rebars suddenly shot up from the concrete floor, pinning the black hawk to the ground and rendering it immobile.
The rebars pierced through its wings, chest, and skull—six in total—intersecting within its body and causing devastating secondary damage.
At this point, the fireball-like black hawk finally came to a stop, impaled in the middle of the street as it wailed in agony, its body gradually charring and turning black from the flames.
With a wave of his hand, Chu Donglin unleashed the dark feathers that had been suspended around him. They shot forth like a crossbow firing in rapid succession, producing a series of whistling sounds as they struck the black hawk one final time, turning it into a spiky porcupine.
