"In short, Shishi doesn't like her, so Shishi wouldn't let Dad be with another woman."
The girl's crying made Chu Donglin feel both amused and helpless.
"What do you mean I wouldn't let you be with another woman? Don't worry, Shishi, no matter what happens, Dad will always take care of you."
With a smile, Chu Donglin ruffled the girl's hair, messing up the carefully arranged strands that Shishi had worked so hard to fix. "And my feelings for Xing'er aren't what you think they are; I just see her as my sister. I'm not going to marry her."
"Hmph! I don't believe you! It says in books that men often say 'I just see her as my sister,' but that sister usually ends up becoming the wife! Dad, you can't fool me!"
Chu Donglin paused, a bit confused. "The books... weren't the ones I found for you all fairy tales? How could there be such nonsense? Where did you see that?"
The girl ran into her room and quickly dug out a book, holding it high for Chu Donglin to see. "It's right here! Look, Dad, it clearly says in the book that you can't fool me."
Chu Donglin stared at the romance novel in disbelief.
"When did this get mixed in? How come I didn't know about it?"
Looking at the large title on the cover, "The Scheming Daddy Fell for Me," and then at the girl's face, which resembled someone who had just discovered their spouse's infidelity, Chu Donglin felt a wave of frustration.
"What kind of nonsense is this? This kind of book can actually be published? Are you kidding me?"
Without hesitation, Chu Donglin snatched the questionable reading material from the girl's hands, planning to destroy it before it could further corrupt her.
Glancing at the girl in front of him, he said, "This book is inappropriate for children. It's my fault for mixing it with your fairy tale books. Now that we've discovered it, I have to throw it away to prevent it from leading you astray."
The girl immediately became anxious, jumping up like a protective hen. Shishi hurriedly tried to snatch back the book that Chu Donglin had taken away.
While jumping around, she protested indignantly, "Dad, what are you doing? Give Shishi back her book! Are you really going to go out and find another woman like in the book? Are you angry because Shishi exposed you and now want to destroy the evidence?"
"Stop with the nonsense, Girl. You’re not allowed to look at these ridiculous things anymore."
Chu Donglin rolled up the book and lightly tapped Girl on the head, giving her a stern look. "Just stay home and wait for me. I'll be back soon after meeting my friend. It won't take long."
Girl covered her head where she had been tapped, pouting as she said, "Daddy is a bad guy. Daddy doesn't want Shishi anymore; he's going out to find wild women, boo hoo hoo..."
"What wild women? Don't say such ugly things! That’s just a friend of Daddy's, someone older than you. You need to respect her... Understand?"
Chu Donglin shot another glare at Girl. "Is Shishi actually a girl who is rude and disrespectful to her elders? If that's the case, then I won't like her anymore."
Girl stiffened for a moment before rushing over to hug Chu Donglin's arm tightly, quickly apologizing, "I'm sorry, Daddy... I... Shishi shouldn't have said those things. Please don't ignore Shishi, okay? Shishi will definitely behave."
"Really going to behave?"
"Yes, yes, yes! I promise I will behave." Girl nodded vigorously.
"You won't cause any more trouble?"
"No more trouble, I promise."
"Then can I go meet Xing'er now?"
"No, you can't go..."
"Hmm?"
"I... I... Ahhhhh! I know now!"
Some self-destructive voices called out, and the girl, feeling frustrated, covered her head and ran away, collapsing onto the sofa as she shouted, "Just go already! Hurry up and meet your Xing'er! I won't stop you anymore."
"Ha... that's more like it~~ You can play with Home and Snow Sister for a while; Daddy will be back soon."
Chu Donglin waved his hand with a smile and turned to leave.
Before he left, he glanced back, only to see the girl sulking on the sofa with her bottom in the air. He couldn't help but chuckle and called out, "So, I'm leaving now?"
"Go on, go find your vixen! Hmph!"
Chu Donglin looked at Snow beside him and smiled. "Stay here at Home to protect her. Don't let any Zombie harm her, okay? Nod if you understand."
Snow stared at him in confusion for a long time before finally grasping his meaning and nodded blankly.
"Okay, then Shishi is in your hands."
Chu Donglin patted Snow's shoulder and turned to leave the room.
As he walked downstairs, the sky outside was filled with stars.
Tonight was clear, and the cool moonlight gently spread across the streets of the city. Even without streetlights, the roads were not shrouded in darkness.
Countless Zombies emerged from the dark shadows, instinctively drawn to the streets to bask in the moonlight and absorb its energy.
On such a bright moonlit night, even those Second-Stage Zombies that roamed around searching for prey had quieted down significantly, no longer as noisy and restless as usual.
Standing downstairs, watching the shadowy Low-Level Zombies wandering about under the moonlight, Chu Donglin felt as if he were watching a terrifyingly bizarre movie.
It was the kind of experience that felt all too real.
The zombies before him were like the wandering corpses from horror films, and he was the living person who had unwittingly stepped into their midst. Of course, he knew very well that although he appeared no different from an ordinary person aside from his skin and eyes, he had indeed become one of these flesh-eating evil spirits.
The once-human Chu Donglin had died the moment he awakened.
What remained now was Chu Donglin as a zombie, a fact that could not be changed no matter how strong he became.
He approached a trash bin by the roadside, preparing to toss the book in his hand into it. However, under the cold moonlight, his gaze inadvertently swept over the cover, where the words "My Scheming Daddy Fell in Love with Me" were printed.
His hand froze.
Looking at this romance novel aimed at women, Chu Donglin tilted his head in thought. For some inexplicable reason, he abandoned the idea of throwing it away and decided to keep the book instead.
"Fine, since I have nothing better to do, I might as well pass the time with this."
After stowing away the romance novel, Chu Donglin walked toward the motorcycle parked downstairs. "I might as well see what nonsense is written in here. It wouldn't really teach that girl anything ridiculous, would it?"
The large characters on the cover gave Chu Donglin an ominous feeling. He sensed that if he carelessly discarded this book without understanding it, he would regret it later on.
