"Don't die..."
A simple phrase, yet it carried an unimaginable weight.
As the man thousands of miles away awoke from his dreams at midnight, murmuring those words, a woman swiftly navigating through the ruins of the city suddenly lifted her head.
It was as if she sensed something; in an instant, she halted her steps amidst the shattered remnants of the past.
Raising her gaze towards the direction of Southwest Wocheng, the woman named Liu Mengying wore a look of confusion on her face.
"What... happened?"
In that moment, a strange flutter surged from her heart, causing even the usually composed Liu to feel a bittersweet pang.
This unfamiliar sensation left her somewhat anxious, yet there was also an inexplicable sense of joy. The odd mix of emotions thoroughly bewildered her.
"General? What happened?"
As she stopped, the dozens of soldiers following closely behind her also came to a halt.
They quickly spread out among the ruins, forming a perfect formation to shield the halted woman within their ranks, leaving no gaps in their defense. Their movements were synchronized and undeniably well-trained.
Any enemy or monster attempting to attack the woman at the center of their formation would first have to breach their defenses.
As the most elite killing unit of the military, they had the confidence to withstand any foe—unless a Landwalker appeared.
Watching the woman in the ruins, concern filled the eyes of the soldiers.
It was the first time in a long while that they had seen confusion and fear on the face of their usually calm and wise superior.
Even when they first encountered the Landwalker, she had shown no sign of emotion.
Could it be… that the general had discovered a creature even more terrifying than the Landwalker?
This thought brought despair to everyone’s eyes.
The existence of the Landwalker was already a dreadful calamity hanging over all humanity.
If there were creatures more horrifying than the Landwalker in this world, what kind of terrifying situation would that create? Would humanity truly face complete extinction?
The panic in her subordinates' eyes was quickly noticed by Liu Mengying, who had regained her composure.
She snorted coldly, and an icy killing intent instantly enveloped the ruins, causing every soldier's hair to stand on end as they instinctively straightened their backs.
"Is this your courage? Just a slight display of fear from me can scare you all like this? Or is your so-called fearless bravery merely a facade? Without me, would you be as fragile as cubs lacking parental care?"
Under Liu Mengying's cold reprimand, the soldiers lowered their heads in shame, unable to meet her gaze.
Her frigid stare swept across the ruins before she flicked her cloak and vanished into a shadow around the corner.
"Continue moving forward! Tonight is Zombie's Ancestral Night; Mutated Zombies have awakened part of their memories. And Awakened ones need to sleep—this is a good opportunity. We can take advantage of this to eliminate the most troublesome targets. We must not allow them to awaken any human wisdom or memories!"
The group pressed on, their swift assault cutting through the ruins like a fierce wind, so fast that ordinary Zombies could only sense a gust passing by.
When they caught a whiff of human flesh and blood and wanted to attack, they could only look at the empty streets around them with confused expressions.
Ten minutes later, a piercing roar echoed through the ruins of the city.
The agonized wail of a High-Level Zombie shattered the tranquility of the night.
However, apart from the surrounding Ordinary Zombies who moved about restlessly, the bloodthirsty High-Level Zombies fell silent, leaving the vast city unusually quiet.
Naturally, this was also due to the confidence of the human raiders, who dared to venture deep into the city to hunt down the Zombie Lord—most of the Mutated Zombies had already fallen asleep.
Three minutes later, another anguished roar erupted, and amidst a spray of blood, a giant creature resembling an octopus plummeted from the twelfth floor.
Awakened abruptly from its dreams by a chilling aura of death, it leaped up just as terrifying Ice Chains ensnared it tightly.
Then a Cold Light flashed through the darkness; the last scene it witnessed in its life was that of a Blue-haired Figure's Slender Figure brushing past it.
In that instant, a merciless Ice Blade pierced its body, extracting its Life Core.
Amidst the splattering blood, that Life Core brimming with evolutionary energy was casually taken away by the woman, leaving behind the heavy corpse of the Octopus Monster-like Zombie Lord to tumble from the edge of the twelfth floor.
The horrifying and efficient slaughter unfolded rapidly in the darkness.
With a group of powerful soldiers providing cover, Liu Mengying's speed in executing her surprise attacks was astonishing.
The soldiers charged forward, tasked with immobilizing those Second-Stage and Third-Stage minions at first sight, ensuring they did not interfere with her.
Meanwhile, the most formidable Zombie leader was swiftly dispatched by the woman in a single strike as soon as she awakened.
In a city once teeming with High-Level Zombies, due to the arrival of Ancestral Night, all Mutated Zombies had fallen into a brief slumber, granting an opportunity to the human raiders.
But this opportunity ended when they killed the Sixth Zombie Lord.
A chilling presence, Fury, Agitation, evil, darkness, Madness, Bloodthirsty, Cold-hearted… all the negative emotions coalesced into one being suddenly appeared at the end of the street.
Its towering form twisted like an Evil God from ancient mythology, freezing the blood of anyone who dared to look upon it, causing them to tremble in fear.
Surrounding its pitch-black, coldly pale body were countless Black Malevolence swirling and dancing, like howling Vengeful Spirits bound by the Evil God, unable to transcend, their mournful cries echoing through the air.
The air was thick with the Madness that accompanied the Evil God’s presence, driving everyone to the brink of insanity.
It was a monster as tall as a mountain, towering over even the tallest skyscrapers.
As it moved through the city, it resembled a terrifying Evil Monster inspecting its domain as an Evil God.
Along its path, countless Zombies roared and knelt on the streets, fervent yet fearful, like Demons of Bread.
However, wherever it passed, flowers withered, Living Beings went mad, and all life ceased to exist. Ordinary people who caught even a glimpse of it from afar could be driven insane with terror.
Even the battle-hardened Iron-Blooded Warriors and the professionally trained Human Assault Team couldn’t help but show fear on their faces and instinctively wanted to retreat when faced with this monster.
“Hmph! Retreat!”
The only woman in the team who could still maintain her composure snorted coldly and decisively chose to withdraw.
Although they had killed six Zombie Lords tonight, the sudden appearance of the Landwalker interrupted her plans.
Yet their achievements were already impressive; they had slain six powerful Zombie Lords in one go. The base could finally catch its breath from the relentless terrifying attacks of the Zombies.
As the terrifying monster known as the Landwalker roamed through the city, spreading dark, cold, and evil emotions like Madness, thousands of miles away in Wocheng, a girl named Xue lay on a dark bed, her brow furrowed. Like many mutated Zombies, she was trapped in a dream of what it once meant to be human.
The upcoming chapters are best read together for a better experience.
Regarding updates, it's quite frustrating. The doctor has advised me to rest for a while and not to type anymore, as my arm has been pricked too many times and I have been taking too much medication. Even when not on an IV, my hands feel weak and typing is quite exhausting.
However, the recent plot is at a crucial turning point. The past between Xue and Chu Donglin will begin to unravel here, and the story will transition into the first encounter with the human Survivor faction. This is significant, and it would be a shame if it were interrupted.
If I receive five more IV treatments and am still not healed, I may need to consider more advanced treatment options. At that point, surgery might be necessary. As for updates, I can only promise that there won't be any interruptions before further treatment.
Well... in any case, wish me luck! Who knows? I might wake up healed tomorrow and avoid surgery altogether, allowing me to return to my previous update standards.
Additionally, next week this book will be on the Sanjiang rankings, and there will be a competition for Sanjiang votes. If anyone has Sanjiang votes available, I hope you can cast two for Zombie.
Although my updates have been lacking recently and I feel somewhat hesitant asking for votes, it would be a shame not to try for a chance.
So, if anyone has Sanjiang votes next week, please consider voting for Zombie. Thank you for your support!
