In the empty alley, two Zombies lay motionless in the center, resembling silent corpses.
Amidst the slightly messy surroundings, a trash can had been knocked over by someone passing by, spilling its contents all over the ground.
Moldy leftovers, torn packaging, sticky grease, and more were scattered throughout the alley, attracting flies that buzzed around.
Due to the prolonged neglect of this garbage, white maggots could even be seen wriggling on some of the spoiled food.
This was a street in a post-apocalyptic world, merely a corner of the city. Yet the desolation and silence here were indistinguishable from other parts of the city, filled with an air of abandonment.
As Chu Donglin stepped into the alley, his footsteps startled the two Zombies lying on the ground.
However, when they opened their eyes and sat up, they caught a whiff of a familiar scent belonging to their kind.
Disappointed, the two Zombies lay back down, no longer paying attention to Chu Donglin. Even though this Zombie seemed somewhat peculiar, it was indeed one of them and held no allure for them.
“How long do you two plan to follow me?”
After walking for a while, Chu Donglin suddenly stopped in the middle of the alley and turned to look at the emptiness behind him. “Aren’t you coming out?”
Yet there was no response in the deserted alley; it felt as if he were speaking to thin air.
The two Zombies were startled awake by Chu Donglin's voice. They looked up blankly at this fellow creature making sounds, seemingly puzzled about who he was talking to.
A calm silence lingered for a long time.
Then, out of nowhere, two identical girls appeared in the empty alley.
They seemed to be carved from the same mold. Not only were their outfits identical, but even their adorable faces mirrored each other perfectly.
With a cheerful expression, the two girls appeared, exuding a hint of mischievous evil that made them incredibly cute, causing anyone who saw them to smile involuntarily.
Hand in hand, the two suddenly materialized girls waved at Chu Donglin with bright smiles. Not only did they look and dress identically, but even their gestures were perfectly synchronized, as if they were reflections of each other in a mirror.
"Big Brother, good afternoon!"
Chu Donglin smiled back, crossing his arms as he looked at the two girls who had appeared out of nowhere. He wasn't particularly surprised by their sudden arrival.
"Are you two following me to stab me again?"
The girl on the left immediately showed a disappointed expression, pouting as if Chu Donglin's heartless words had hurt her.
"Is that how you see Ling'er, Big Brother? Ling'er is so sad."
The girl on the right also wore a sorrowful face, looking quite upset.
"Big Brother misunderstood Keara like this... Boohoo... Keara feels so bad. I like you so much!"
"Just because you like me, you want to stab me? Tsk... I can hardly bear this way of expressing affection."
Chu Donglin chuckled, remaining unfazed by the two girls' antics. "That knife wound in my heart still aches faintly. If I weren't a Zombie, just from that alone, I would have been done for."
Ling'er quickly shook off her earlier disappointment and cheerfully replied, "What does it matter? After all, Big Brother is a Zombie. As long as your head isn't hurt, it's fine. Even if my knife stabbed your heart, you'd heal quickly."
At that moment, two Zombies behind Chu Donglin suddenly roared and struggled to stand up from the ground, swaying as they lunged toward the two girls in the alley.
The scent of fresh human flesh excited the two Zombies; their mouths opened wide, yellowed teeth glistening with drool.
Then the girl Ling'er cheerfully raised her right hand, lightly flicking the coin pressed by her thumb.
Boom—
Amidst the thunderous roar, a brilliant white beam of light flashed through the alley.
When the white light faded, two Zombies had been severed at the waist, leaving only their charred upper bodies struggling in the alley, unable to do anything.
Immediately after, the knife on Chu Donglin's back flew out, tracing an arc in the air and delivering a final blow to the resilient Zombies.
With the sound of two heads rolling, the bloodied blade was flicked in the air, shaking off the bloodstains before it flew straight back to Chu Donglin's back.
The swift and decisive kill earned two awe-struck gasps from the girls.
"Wow! Swordsmanship! Big Brother is amazing!"
The two girls rested their chins on their hands, gazing at Chu Donglin with admiration. Their adorable demeanor made it impossible for anyone to resist liking them.
However, Chu Donglin merely smiled lightly, remaining unfazed.
"So, what exactly do you two want by following me? If you keep dodging the question, I might just leave."
Ling'er pouted, looking sorrowful.
"Big Brother is making Ling'er so sad. I just wanted to see you because I missed you so much. Is that too much to ask?"
Chu Donglin glanced at Keara beside him, who shrank back behind Ling'er and timidly said, "Keara also misses Big Brother."
Chu Donglin shook his head.
"I don't have time to mess around with you."
With that, he turned and walked away without hesitation.
But then, the corners of his clothes were tugged by two girls.
Chu Donglin turned back and saw the two girls had appeared behind him as if they had teleported. One of them reached out and grabbed the hem of his garment, looking at him with pitiful eyes, like two adorable pets wanting to keep their owner close.
"Big Brother, are you really that heartless? You won't even stay a little longer with Ling'er?"
"Woo woo woo... Big Brother is so mean, not caring about Keara at all. Keara feels so sad."
Chu Donglin shrugged, remaining unmoved.
"I do appreciate that you didn't reveal my identity to Ban Qingya and kept my Zombie identity under wraps. But I really don't have time to play with you. You should go back and find Sister Qingya. I'm sure she has much more patience than I do. She would be willing to play with you."
Keara wrinkled her nose, looking unhappy.
"Big Brother, are you going to meet a vixen?"
"Yeah, yeah, Big Brother must be going to see some vixen; otherwise, he wouldn't be acting like this... Ling'er is so cute. If Big Brother wasn't enchanted by a vixen, he would definitely want to stay longer with me."
With their firm judgments, Chu Donglin raised his hands in surrender and said, "Alright then. I'll stay and keep you company... but what can I do with you? What do you actually want? Can you tell me?"
"Hehe... it's not anything important; we just want to chat with Big Brother. Big Brother, can we go have some tea?"
Chu Donglin expressionlessly pried open the hands of the two girls pulling at him, turning around without hesitation and leaving them behind.
"You should go find Sister Qingya. I don't have time."
Watching Chu Donglin's indifferent back as he walked away, the two girls grew annoyed.
Standing shoulder to shoulder in the alley, they placed their hands on their hips like wives abandoned by husbands seeking affairs, feeling both hurt and angry as they shouted.
"Go! Go find your vixen! If you leave, don’t come back!"
As Chu Donglin's figure gradually faded into the distance, almost disappearing around the corner, one of the girls, Ling'er, shouted again.
"If you leave, never come back! Go find your vixen! Let Liu Sister Xin'er get killed by her father for all we care; if you don’t care about her life or death, then neither will we!"
At that moment, Chu Donglin turned back.
He looked at the two girls in shock. "What are you talking about? What do you mean Xin'er is going to be killed by her father... What happened?"
"Hmph!"
The two girls each huffed and crossed their arms, turning their heads away from him.
Chu Donglin paused for a moment, his previous indifference replaced by a bright smile as he squatted down.
"Alright, alright, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been so cold to you... Lovely Ling'er, beautiful Keara, what exactly happened? Can you tell me?"
"Hmph!"
The two girls continued to hug their shoulders, huffing as they turned their heads away from Chu Donglin.
"Don't be like that... I'm really sad about how you both are treating me. Ling'er? Keara? What exactly happened? Can you tell me? Big Brother will reward you."
"Hmph!"
The two girls remained angry.
Chu Donglin looked at the two girls and sighed helplessly.
"Alright, if that's how it is, then there's nothing I can do... If something really happened to Xing'er, I believe she wouldn't blame me. After all, Ling'er and Keara knew about the situation but didn't tell me. I don't know anything; even if I wanted to save her, I wouldn't be able to... Sigh... Poor Xing'er, it's not that I don't want to save you; it's just that I can't."
Shaking his head and sighing, Chu Donglin turned and walked away, quickly leaving the alley.
Only then did the two girls open their eyes, looking at the empty alley in disbelief.
"Did he... leave?"
"Big Brother actually walked away?"
The two girls exchanged glances, and then Ling'er suddenly pointed at her sister and exclaimed.
"It's all your fault! It's Keara who made Big Brother angry and drove him away; it's all Keara's fault."
The girl was taken aback and quickly began to argue back.
"Hu...Hu! It was obviously Ling'er who made Big Brother angry. If you hadn't ignored him all the time, Big Brother wouldn't have left... Huh! It's all Ling'er's fault." "I ...I...don't you also pay attention to BigBrother? You ignored him when he told you. It must be you who pissed him off. It's all Keara's fault." "It's Ling'er. "Keara's fault!" "Keara's fault!" "Okay, stop arguing, both of you are at fault." Turning to stare at the person who made the noise, he yelled, "You're stupid! It's obviously..."
