The biting cold wind howled through the city, and in the Abandoned City, traces of human activity had become scarce.
As the apocalypse descended, it had become increasingly rare to see solitary humans roaming the Earth.
Gathering together for warmth and relying on collective strength had become the only means of survival in this desolate world.
For those who could not find a community to depend on, unless they possessed power strong enough to disregard the looming threats, they had long since become prey for the wandering Zombies.
January 8, Year 5.
As the light gradually faded and darkness was about to descend, in the alley, the girl’s story was nearing its end.
When shadows crept up the side of Chu Donglin's face, he silently listened to the two girls chatter away. Neither their expressions nor their gazes could be described as warm.
He coldly regarded the two Girls before him, seemingly trying to discern any evidence of deceit from their faces.
But there was none.
The two girls, named Ling'er and Keara, continued to smile at him, showing no signs of guilt or fear behind their lies.
Chu Donglin took a deep breath and sent a command along the mental link to the White Wolf lying in wait not far away.
"Awoo!"
With a familiar howl, the massive form of the White Wolf appeared at the entrance of the alley, standing there waiting for Chu Donglin.
In the alley, Chu Donglin turned back to glance at the two girls and broke free from their embrace.
"I will personally verify the information you provided. If it is indeed as you say, I will return to thank you."
Without hesitation, Chu Donglin turned and strode away.
This time, the two girls did not continue to cling to him. Instead, they stood there smiling, waving goodbye to Chu Donglin's departing figure.
"Take care, Big Brother! Remember to come back early; we’re waiting for you to pledge yourself to us."
"Yes, yes! Big Brother, come back soon, and don’t let the monsters eat you!"
Their seemingly malicious smiles lingered in the air as a cold wind swept by, tousling Chu Donglin's white hair.
Yet beneath that white hair, the coldness in his eyes was filled with a chilling intent to kill.
"Go back and find Xing'er."
He crossed the alley and approached White Wolf. Facing this massive creature, Chu Donglin leaped onto White Wolf's back and issued his command.
With that, White Wolf's enormous body suddenly accelerated, racing through the city with Chu Donglin on its back, disappearing into the distance.

The source of the screams came from deep within the orchard of the manor.
A group of people exchanged glances in the square. Without needing Wu to say a word, they all rushed toward the direction of the cries.
Fully armed warriors sprinted through the deserted manor, their powerful weapons instilling immense confidence in them. Over this period, they had proven their strength with countless remains and corpses of Zombies.
Even a formidable Second-Stage Zombie that charged at their team was reduced to fragments by their gunfire, despite its strong and sturdy body.
When they wielded their weapons, they were the most powerful group in the city; even the mightiest Zombie had to flee before them.
They had the confidence to eliminate any hidden enemies and firmly believed that there were no terrifying monsters left in this city that could threaten them.
As a group of fully armed warriors entered the orchard with great confidence and well-equipped weapons, what lay before them was a somewhat withered Withered Forest.
After all, it was the harsh winter; everything was withering away. The plants in this orchard appeared dry and lifeless, with mostly empty, barren branches standing silently against the cold wind.
The group halted at the entrance of the orchard, instinctively looking back at their leader, Wu.
As they stood at the entrance, gazing at the desolate Silence Orchard, a strange sense of dread inexplicably crept over those who had crawled out from the Corpse Mountain's sea of blood as Iron-Blooded Warriors.
It wasn't fear or retreat, but this orchard undeniably gave everyone an unsettling feeling that was hard to shake off.
The companions' gazes swept over, and Wu fell silent for a few seconds. He pushed through the crowd in front of him and crouched down, carefully searching in front of the orchard gate.
Then he found what he was looking for.
"The Tang Dynasty hasn't been inside."
He looked at the fine dust on the doorknob of the orchard gate and shook his head, saying, "This doorknob hasn't been touched in at least a week. The dust on it is thick. If the Tang Dynasty had entered the orchard, it wouldn't be this dusty."
With that, Wu took a step back and tightened his grip on the Light Machine Gun in his hand.
"We're going back. It's getting late; we must return to the base before dark. We can't linger outside, or if we're surrounded by Second-Stage Zombies, none of us will survive."
Wu's command was clear, and his judgment was calm—almost cold to the point of being unfeeling.
Dissent began to stir among the crowd.
"What about the Tang Dynasty?"
"Yeah, Captain, are we just going to leave him here?"
"What if he's lost? Can't we wait for him a bit longer?"
Wu coldly scanned the crowd. "Am I not waiting for the Tang Dynasty?"
Wang lowered his head to check the watch on his wrist; the hands had just passed six o'clock.
"Everyone, return to the square and wait for twenty minutes. If Da Tang doesn't come back in twenty minutes, then we will leave."
Originally, their plan was merely to visit this largest Survivor camp among the many rumors and to convey Ark Base's desire to form an alliance or even merge with this camp.
Neither Wang nor their leader had anticipated that they would be able to convince Liushan Shu to agree to a merger in one go, so they hadn't made any plans to linger for too long.
However, the situation at the Resort caught Wang and his companions completely off guard.
Before coming here, they had imagined many possible scenarios.
Whether it was a warm welcome from Liushan Shu, a cold reception, or even a tense standoff... what they never expected was that when they walked into this largest Survivor camp, they were met with a completely deserted Empty City.
Thus, their plans had to change temporarily. Wang, always cautious, decided to return and report the situation to their leader, waiting for instructions instead of rushing headlong into this strange Empty City with his companions.
Yet when they returned to the square, they noticed some new developments.
Some changes that would definitely not evoke pleasant feelings. (To be continued...)
