"How do we catch it? This thing can't be held with hands, and there's nothing left to put it in."
"I've already thought of that," Lin Lingsu said as she pulled a glass bottle from her pocket. "Here, use this."
"This isn't appropriate," Wei Ning frowned. "It's somewhat disrespectful to the deceased."
"Are you going or not?"
Knowing she couldn't argue with Lin Lingsu, Wei Ning took the bottle and gently collected the nearest Ghost Fire into it. Once sealed, the green luminous Ghost Fire looked stunning against the night backdrop.
Lin Lingsu clapped her hands in delight. "Hurry, hurry, fill it up! Over there, and there… quickly!"
Under Lin Lingsu's direction, Wei Ning soon filled the entire bottle with Ghost Fire. The glowing flames illuminated the glass bottle brightly. Lin Lingsu took the bottle and plopped down on a tombstone, curiously playing with it.
"Get down!" Wei Ning quickly urged.
"Why?"
Wei Ning yanked Lin Lingsu down and hurriedly bowed at the grave. "The dead are paramount. No matter what, we must never be higher than the tombstone, let alone sit on it."
Lin Lingsu pouted. "Whose is it?"
"My grandfather's."
"You're lying; stop fooling around."
"I'm not!" Wei Ning felt a surge of anger at Lin Lingsu's insult to her grandfather.
Realizing she had gone too far, Lin Lingsu grabbed Wei Ning's arm. "Alright, I’ve already paid my respects, right? The grandfather sleeping here has forgiven me. Grandfather, have you forgiven me? If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes—look, even the mouse says you’ve forgiven me, so you shouldn’t be mad anymore."
Seeing Lin Lingsu's somewhat pitiful expression softened Wei Ning's heart. She smiled slightly, and they seemed to have reconciled.
Lin Lingsu looked around and said, "There's nothing fun here anyway; let's just go back."
Wei Ning realized that it was quite late, and if Wang Tuozi woke up to find himself alone, he would surely be furious.
Lin Lingsu held Wei Ning's hand as they retraced their steps, but after walking for a long time, they still hadn't exited Grave Hill. Both Lin Lingsu and Wei Ning began to feel that something was off.
Lin Lingsu turned to Wei Ning and said, "Are we... are we lost?"
Wei Ning nodded. "It's possible."
After walking a bit further, Lin Lingsu suddenly called out again. Wei Ning quickly asked with concern, "What is it?"
"My shoe, my shoe is missing," Lin Lingsu said anxiously. Wei Ning immediately bent down to help her look for it, but in the darkness, with the overgrown weeds and jagged rocks around them, even if it had just been dropped, it would be hard to find—especially at night.
"Forget it, I can't find it," Lin Lingsu gave up.
"What should we do?"
"Do you have the heart to let a delicate beauty walk barefoot in this desolate mountain at such a late hour?" Lin Lingsu tilted her head and looked at Wei Ning.
"Fine." Wei Ning sighed, understanding her implication. "Get on my back."
"Good boy." Lin Lingsu playfully brushed her fingers against Wei Ning's nose before cheerfully climbing onto his shoulders. Wei Ning felt her body was soft and light, especially on his back where a tingling sensation spread through him as if electricity coursed through his entire being.
Wei Ning's mind began to sway.
He carried Lin Lingsu for a short while, but the feeling of unease grew stronger. Suddenly, he tripped over something and looked down to find... Lin Lingsu's shoe that she had dropped earlier?
"What’s going on?" Lin Lingsu also sensed something strange. "How did we end up back here after wandering around?"
Wei Ning nodded and said, "There must be something unclean nearby. We’ve encountered the Ghost Wall."
"Ghost Wall?" Upon hearing about ghosts, Lin Lingsu clung to Wei Ning even tighter. "Don't scare me! I’m not brave."
"Wow, you really have some nerve," Wei Ning thought to himself.
"What are we going to do now? Aren't you supposed to know some magic? Hurry up and think of something!" Lin Lingsu urged anxiously.
"I do have a method... it's just..." Wei Ning hesitated for a moment.
"What is it? Hurry!" Lin Lingsu pressed.
Suddenly, Wei Ning's face turned red as he said to Lin Lingsu, "You need to turn around."
Lin Lingsu looked confused. "What are you being all mysterious about? Are you saying your magic can't be seen?"
"Exactly," Wei Ning found his footing. "Our spells... um... are very powerful and can't be shown to you, or else you might try to steal them."
Lin Lingsu made a face. "Only a dog would want to learn that. Who cares?"
"Just turn around," Wei Ning insisted.
"Okay, hurry up."
Once Lin Lingsu turned her back, Wei Ning quickly took off his pants and pretended to perform his "magic" behind her.
Although Lin Lingsu couldn't see, she could tell from the sounds what Wei Ning was actually doing. It turned out his profound "Dao Techniques" were just him urinating.
Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but then an idea struck her—she decided to tease Wei Ning.
Suddenly, Lin Lingsu turned her face back and shouted, "What are you doing?"
Wei Ning was startled and instinctively forced half of what he was doing back in, hurriedly pulling up his pants.
His face instantly turned as red as a ripe tomato.
"Ha ha, is this what you call Dao Techniques? It's hilarious." Lin Lingsu laughed uncontrollably at Wei Ning's awkwardness, but gradually noticed that Wei Ning's expression was growing darker. The laughter faded as she quietly asked, "Are you angry?"
"No," Wei Ning replied flatly.
"Not angry? Just look at your face."
"Let's go, or we'll be caught," Wei Ning changed the subject.
Lin Lingsu thought that Wei Ning usually had a good temper and rarely got angry, but when he truly was upset, there was an undeniable aura of authority about him. She realized that what she had just done was indeed a bit excessive; he was trying to help her, yet she had been teasing him instead.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault. Please don't be angry anymore."
"Forget it, just don't do this again in the future."
Lin Lingsu nodded repeatedly.
Naturally, Lin Lingsu took Wei Ning's hand. The mountain path was difficult to navigate, especially in the dark, and both of them were cautious. Suddenly, Lin Lingsu seemed to step on loose soil and slipped; unbeknownst to her, there was a slope nearby. She rolled down uncontrollably, and Wei Ning couldn't hold on either, tumbling down after her. Fortunately, there were no rocks on either side, and they both emerged unscathed. When they got up, they realized they had fallen into a valley.
Wei Ning surveyed their surroundings and discovered that there were no trees nearby, but not far off was a pond.
Wei Ning felt uneasy because Wei Qiuxi had once told him that in terms of feng shui, "where there are mountains without water is not a good place; where there is water without mountains can also be problematic." The basic principle of feng shui is to be near both mountains and water. What constitutes a mountain? It must be dense and continuous. Where there are mountains, there should be trees; where there are trees, there must be water. The ideal setting is surrounded by green mountains and flowing waters—a peaceful resting place for travelers. However, if a mountain is barren and lifeless, it surely lacks spiritual energy. If there is water present, it can dispel negative energy; yet the water must have its source and flow. A stagnant pond like this one in flat land is undoubtedly a gathering place for yin energy. The surrounding area of hundreds of miles would be filled with Evil Energy that lingers without dispersing. This place embodies the "White Tiger Sitting Kill," one of the eight deadly formations in feng shui—extremely dangerous.
