Wu Fei was taken aback, clearly not expecting Wei Ning to be so straightforward. With a sinister grin, he said, "You brought this upon yourself; you can't blame me for being ruthless." He then formed a hand seal and pulled back the Corpse Driving Stick that had been embedded in the ground. With a swing of the stick, shadows began to dance in the dark forest, rustling the trees. When everything fell silent, five Zombies stood beside Wu Fei, each with a Corpse Controlling Talisman affixed to their pale faces, looking particularly eerie under the moonlight.
Fang Zhi suddenly shot Wu Fei a fierce glance, his eyes filled with a complex malice. Wu Fei cleared his throat to mask his unease.
Fang Zhi knew that these five Zombies were originally meant for him; it was merely Wei Ning's luck that he had stumbled into this situation.
Wei Ning took a deep breath, clearing his mind of distractions. Suddenly, he felt his senses sharpen to their peak. His eyes flew open—one black eye like an unfathomable abyss and one golden eye blazing like the sun—this was Wei Ning's first battle since his rebirth.
The five Zombies, covered in white fur, were of the White Zombie variety. However, for Wu Fei, controlling five White Zombies simultaneously was already an impressive feat. Even Fang Zhi showed a flicker of surprise in his eyes when it came to Wei Ning.
Perhaps even he did not realize that he was once the Blood Corpse who had effortlessly slain five Flying Corpses in mere seconds. After three years of lurking in the shadows, he had reached a whole new level—one that he probably never expected to attain.
With a swing of Wu Fei's Corpse Driving Stick, the five White Zombies charged toward Wei Ning. These Zombies were Wu Fei's trump card; even when his Infant Spirit Corpse had nearly been killed by Fang Zhi's Gu Corpse, he had hesitated to use them. He had originally planned to summon them during Fang Zhi's moment of arrogance and strike with overwhelming force to defeat him decisively.
However, Liu Linglang's appearance changed his mind.
Although these five White Zombies were not as powerful as the Infant Spirit Corpse, they had their own advantages. They were crafted by a skilled practitioner closely associated with the Wu Family. The five White Zombies represented the five elements—metal, wood, water, fire, and earth—working together through Wu Family's unique corpse-controlling techniques to unleash their full potential.
As the five White Zombies flew toward him, encircling Wei Ning, he snorted coldly and moved. Wu and Fang felt as if their vision blurred; Wei Ning had somehow slipped out of the encirclement of the five corpses.
Speed—absolute speed. Even Wei Ning himself was surprised at how fast he had become; he couldn't help but pause for a moment in astonishment.
With his Red Umbrella raised and Peach Wood Sword in hand, he was about to strike when Liu Linglang suddenly appeared between him and the five corpses.
"Bad guys, you are all bad guys." Liu Linglang held the "fainting" Infant Spirit Corpse in her arms. Wei Ning nodded; he and Liu Linglang shared a mutual understanding. At this moment, he realized that Liu Linglang standing in front of him meant she was about to take action.
Finally, she was going to make her move. Wei Ning had often heard his master speak of how powerful Liu Linglang was, and today he was eager to witness what kind of abilities this monster possessed. If she couldn't handle it, he could step in later.
Liu Linglang charged toward the five White Zombies, a stack of colorful talismans in her hands. Wei Ning's heart sank as he suddenly realized that at some point, Liu Linglang had used her skill to steal all his talismans. He felt a mix of anger and amusement.
"Fine, let's deal with this monster first, then we can find that big con artist," Wu Fei shouted, pointing his Corpse Driving Stick at the five Zombies. Instantly, they changed direction and surrounded Liu Linglang. The long claws of the Zombies lunged toward her. Wei Ning thought it was bad and was about to intervene when he saw Liu Linglang stand her ground without dodging.
To his astonishment, the five Zombies passed right through Liu Linglang's body as if she had cast some kind of magic. She appeared behind them in an instant.
Wei Ning suddenly realized that despite all her powers, Liu Linglang was fundamentally just a ghost. Ghosts have no physical form; they exist as pure spiritual matter, mere phantoms. How could these Zombies harm her with their physical attacks?
With that thought, Wei Ning's anxiety eased.
Looking back at Liu Linglang, he saw her perched on one Zombie's shoulder, continuously slapping talismans onto its head.
No matter how much the Zombie flailed about, Liu Linglang seemed as insubstantial as air, completely unaffected.
"Is this one it?" Liu Linglang muttered to herself while holding up a talisman. "Nope, useless; I'll save it for wiping." She tossed it aside and pulled out another one, casually gesturing over the Zombie's head. "Still no good. Wei Ning, are all your things fake? None of them work at all."
Wei Ning felt a pang of heartache. If Wang Tuozi were here to witness this scene, he would either be furious or go insane. These talismans were painstakingly saved by Wang Tuozi for Wei Ning, and seeing them wasted like this was akin to killing him.
These talismans were worth thousands each in the Ghost Market!
"By the way, this one!" Liu Linglang finally found the Corpse Controlling Talisman, and the Zombie was now completely immobilized. Liu Linglang clapped her hands in delight and said, "Look at you, Wei Ning! Aren't you impressed by my skills?"
Wei Ning looked at Liu Linglang with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Liu Linglang quickly used the same method to subdue four more Zombies. At this point, Wu Fei had already sensed that something was wrong; using Zombies was no match for Liu Linglang. He hurriedly reached into his pocket to retrieve a talisman meant for exorcising spirits, hoping to eliminate Liu Linglang.
But suddenly, he felt a tightness all over his body. He realized he couldn't move; Liu Linglang had somehow stolen Wei Ning's Ink Fight as well. The Ink Line had wrapped around him tightly without him noticing. Wei Ning's Ink Fight was passed down from Wang Tuozi and was incredibly strong and flexible. As Liu Linglang pulled on it, Wu Fei felt a jolt throughout his body, his arms stretching out in front of him, forced into the stiff posture of a standard Zombie.
With another tug on the Ink Line, Liu Linglang swiftly hoisted Wu Fei into the air like a tree branch on a pivot.
In an instant, Liu Linglang tied a knot and quickly climbed onto Wu Fei's body. In her hand was the headpiece that had been devoured by the Infant Spirit Corpse, which she crookedly placed on Wu Fei's head. She then took a talisman and stuck it on his forehead. Tilting her head in thought, she felt something was missing. With a flourish, she produced a brush and awkwardly wrote the words "I am a big dumb donkey" on the talisman before happily sticking it on Wu Fei's head and clapping her hands in satisfaction. Mission accomplished.
At that moment, Wu Fei felt utterly humiliated. When had he ever endured such an insult? Hanging in mid-air, he rasped, "Brother Fang, are you just here to watch me make a fool of myself?"
