Chapter Twenty: The Trap of the Wind Rhinoceros
Lin Feng began to live a true wild man's life, even more primitive than that of the barbarians. He did not practice any Martial Arts Technique; instead, he focused solely on hunting ferocious beasts to enhance his Physical Strength and increase his physical power.
After just ten days, Lin Feng's hair was unkempt, and his skin had turned dark, resembling a wild man. However, he exuded a fierce aura that made even the most fearsome beasts wary of him.
During these ten days, the most dangerous encounter Lin Feng had was with a mountain tiger that measured two yards in length. The tiger possessed not only incredible strength and sharp claws but also terrifying speed. It was considered one of the top-tier First Rank ferocious beasts, known as the Mountain Tiger.
The battle lasted an entire day. Lin Feng adopted a strategy of fighting while retreating, ultimately managing to kill the Mountain Tiger. However, he sustained severe injuries in the process; a large chunk of flesh was torn from his back, and significant muscle was also gouged from his thigh. This was the most serious injury Lin Feng had ever suffered, leaving him unable to crawl.
The wounds were so grave that it took three days for him to fully recover. New flesh grew over his injuries, and he could distinctly feel that this new flesh had extraordinary strength.
After consuming the entire Mountain Tiger, Lin Feng felt his strength had increased significantly, estimating it to be around fifteen thousand in Physical Strength. His cultivation also advanced considerably; if he wished, breaking through another level within a month would pose no problem.
"With this level of Physical Strength, I could probably compare with those new disciples who are Fourth Realm Cultivators," Lin Feng said confidently. Calculating the time, he realized that the Inner Disciple Competition would begin soon. He dared not waste any time and aimed to acquire more Beast Blood for a Medicinal Bath to push his Physical Strength up to twenty thousand pounds, enabling him to enter the Dual Realm.
"It would be best if I could obtain True Blood from a Second-Stage Beast," Lin Feng hoped.
Now, Lin Feng no longer thought about merely hunting and consuming ferocious beasts upon sight. The meat of low-level beasts held no significance for him; he needed to hunt more powerful creatures.
As he walked toward the center of the forest, Lin Feng no longer hid or sneaked around; he strode forward boldly. Many ferocious beasts fled in terror at his approach. However, he remained cautious; after his experience with the Black Water Serpent, Lin Feng kept his guard up at all times.
After walking for a day without encountering any Second-Stage Beasts, Lin Feng felt it was time to turn back and seek out Miaomiao.
As he turned around, Lin Feng suddenly stopped and gasped in shock. Standing before him was a massive ferocious beast.
The creature resembled a rhinoceros but had two enormous elephant-like ears. It stood over ten feet tall, its body like a towering wall. It stood still, staring directly at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng sensed an overwhelming sense of danger; this beast wanted to eat him. Yet he could not understand why it hadn’t attacked yet. Just moments ago, his back had been turned to it—an ideal opportunity for an ambush.
"Azure Wind Rhinoceros, Second Stage," Lin Feng swallowed hard. On one hand, he wanted to defeat it; on the other hand, he felt apprehensive about the Azure Wind Rhinoceros's strength.
Lin Feng forced himself to remain calm as he faced the fierce beast. After a long while, seeing that the creature was motionless, he decided to step to the left, preparing to leave. The beast followed him closely but did not rush to attack.
Lin Feng felt an unprecedented sense of danger. This was no ordinary beast; it seemed capable of thought, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
He quickened his pace to escape, moving with the speed of a cheetah, darting through the forest in a blur, making it hard for anyone to catch a glimpse of him.
The beast closely pursued him, its massive feet thudding against the ground, creating a booming sound that made the earth tremble slightly.
Lin Feng never expected this colossal creature could move so quickly. It stayed right behind him, making it impossible to shake off. He decided to stop, and the beast halted as well, watching him intently.
Feeling a surge of fear, Lin Feng glanced at a large tree and leaped up, quickly climbing to its center.
The beast struck, crashing down and instantly breaking the tree where Lin Feng had been perched. Lin Feng managed to jump onto another tree just in time as the beast attacked again.
He moved like a Spirit Monkey, leaping between the trees while the beast relentlessly smashed into them, recklessly demolishing everything in its path.
"This isn't going to work," Lin Feng thought as he continued to jump and flee while scanning the distance. Finally, he spotted a lake. Overjoyed, he hurried toward it. In no time at all, Lin Feng leaped from the last tree and sprinted with all his might before jumping into the lake.
The fierce beast did not follow him into the water but instead stood not far from the Lake Shore, waiting.
Lin Feng realized that this lake was even more dangerous than he had anticipated. Sure enough, crocodiles began surfacing—first one, then two, three... until dozens emerged from the depths.
"Golden Crocodiles, First Rank."
Lin Feng was completely stunned. While First Rank beasts were not particularly terrifying on their own, facing dozens of Golden Crocodiles was enough to instill fear in anyone. His heart raced with terror.
Feeling his scalp tingle with dread, he forgot about the Wind Rhinoceros lurking ahead; survival was his priority now. Once he entered the forest, he noticed that the Golden Crocodiles did not pursue him further but returned to the lake instead.
"It seems that these beasts have their own territories."
Lin Feng stood in the forest, gazing at the lake and talking to himself. He remained still, pondering how to deal with the Azure Wind Rhinoceros. That creature was faster and stronger than him, and it appeared tough-skinned and resilient, making it likely that he couldn't harm it.
After a long while, the Golden Crocodile crawled out of the water, not to attack Lin Feng but to bask in the rare sunlight. The dense primeval forest had few clearings like this one where sunlight could reach.
This lake was the territory of the Golden Crocodile, and other fierce beasts dared not approach. It moved leisurely, swaggering as it searched for a comfortable spot to lie down.
As Lin Feng watched, an idea formed in his mind. He walked into the forest, found a suitable location, and began digging a massive pit.
This was to create a trap to capture the Azure Wind Rhinoceros.
Returning to the lake, Lin Feng saw several Golden Crocodiles preparing to enter the water. The forest curved around the lake, with some areas very close to the water's edge.
Lin Feng focused intently, spotting a solitary Golden Crocodile near the trees. He quietly approached it. Just as the Golden Crocodile turned around, Lin Feng sprang forward in a flash, grabbing its massive jaws with all his strength and pulling it back into the forest.
The entire action was completed in an instant; the Golden Crocodile didn't have time to scream and did not alert the others.
Once he had captured this crocodile, Lin Feng tossed it into the pit. The Golden Crocodile thrashed around in the deep pit, glaring at Lin Feng and letting out threatening roars. It attempted to leap out but quickly realized that its jumping ability was quite limited.
"I need to catch more. One crocodile won't be enough to take on that beast."
Lin Feng returned to the lake to wait for another opportunity. Four days passed like this, during which he managed to catch twelve crocodiles. While capturing the last one, he was spotted by others. As he retreated into the forest, those in the lake did not pursue him; they dared not leave their territory.
The twelve crocodiles in the deep pit were making a ruckus, their cries sending chills down one's spine.
Hearing this noise made Lin Feng quite happy. He chopped down a large tree and used its trunk to construct a net-like cover over the pit before laying leaves on top.
Once everything was set up, Lin Feng set off to find the Azure Wind Rhinoceros.
He didn’t dare delay for a moment as he navigated through the forest searching for the Azure Wind Rhinoceros. He wanted to ensure that no other fierce beasts would ruin his trap before he could use it; that would be a waste of effort.
After about an incense stick's worth of time had passed, Lin Feng finally spotted the Azure Wind Rhinoceros. Just like before, it did not immediately attack but instead watched him calmly and steadily.
Lin Feng deliberately displayed a look of fear, then without a second thought, he ran away desperately, much like a mouse fleeing from a cat. This was a sign of weakness.
The ferocious beast was deceived by Lin Feng's fear; it was accustomed to such expressions. Many ferocious beasts would flee with similar looks when they saw it. The Wind Rhinoceros Beast certainly would not let Lin Feng escape easily, pursuing him with all its might. It had never tasted such an animal before and was eager to try, yet it did not dare to strike carelessly.
Lin Feng's escape was frantic and terrified as he maneuvered through the trees to evade the Azure Wind Rhinoceros, avoiding being caught prematurely.
Returning to that trap-laden area, Lin Feng felt a surge of joy as he found the trap intact.
The Azure Wind Rhinoceros followed closely behind, showcasing its speed in an attempt not to be shaken off by Lin Feng, whose speed was astonishing. However, the beast's large body made it difficult to maintain such high velocity.
Just as Lin Feng was about to step into the trap area, he suddenly leaped over the trap and landed on the other side, then jumped up onto a large tree.
"This guy is going to escape like a monkey again."
Images flashed through the Azure Wind Rhinoceros's mind of the last time Lin Feng had darted between tree branches like a monkey. This time, the Azure Wind Rhinoceros felt anger rising within it as it charged toward that tree once more.
Unfortunately for it, it could never reach that tree. As its limbs landed on the trap above, it stepped on the trunk and fell into the pit.
The Wind Rhinoceros Beast's heart sank as it realized something was wrong. It quickly looked down and saw something that made its head ache: ten Golden Crocodiles with their massive jaws wide open.
No one had ever set traps in this primitive forest for hunting, so the beasts here had little awareness of how to guard against traps.
Lin Feng remained perched atop the tree, enjoying an excellent vantage point from which to observe the bottom of the deep pit.
A brutal and bloody battle unfolded at the bottom of the pit. Twelve Golden Crocodiles clamped down on the Azure Wind Rhinoceros's limbs and pulled fiercely, trying to tear it apart.
However, the Azure Wind Rhinoceros was no pushover; its tough skin and thick flesh meant that it couldn't be easily bitten through by the Golden Crocodiles in a short time. It let out an angry roar, thrusting its head upward at an angle. The horn on its head pierced into one of the Golden Crocodiles, impaling it completely.
The sharp teeth and tough skin of the Golden Crocodiles were their greatest assets, yet they were pierced through by the Wind Rhinoceros Beast in one go. Just how sharp was that horn? Lin Feng pondered while watching the battle unfold.
With so many Golden Crocodiles present—one dead but eleven remaining—each biting into its body caused pain all over as blood flowed freely. The Azure Wind Rhinoceros rampaged at the bottom of the pit, accidentally striking one crocodile and turning it into a pulp.
Seeing this scene, Lin Feng felt a chill in his heart. The power of the Azure Wind Rhinoceros was astonishing; if it were him, he would have been turned into mush.
The Azure Wind Rhinoceros was covered in wounds, with large patches of flesh missing in some areas. The Golden Crocodile was no fool either, targeting the beast's injuries with precision.
Realizing that this situation couldn't continue, the Azure Wind Rhinoceros looked up and thought it could leap out of danger. Ignoring the Golden Crocodile, it pushed off the ground with all its might, and its body truly sprang into the air.
"Can it really fly at such a weight?"
Lin Feng displayed an expression of disbelief; Second-Stage Beasts were indeed extraordinary. He immediately took action, leaping down from a tree, his feet landing squarely on the forehead of the Azure Wind Rhinoceros. With a powerful stomp, he sent the leaping beast crashing back down. With his final kick, Lin Feng rebounded and returned to the ground.
Having lost all hope, the Azure Wind Rhinoceros glared at Lin Feng above with intense killing intent. It let out an angry roar directed at him.
The Wind Rhinoceros thought to itself that as long as it escaped, it would definitely swallow that detestable human alive.
