Chapter Seventy-One: Capturing the War Maniac
Lin Feng knew that his Foundation was no match for the War Maniac. Taking advantage of the War Maniac's drunken state, he realized that getting close to him was the best way to capture him. Within a ten-foot radius, where cultivators were usually restricted, became Lin Feng's opportunity.
"Thank you, Lord Lin," Qiu Fu expressed his gratitude profusely before timidly stepping back.
Lin Feng lowered his head, restraining his own Foundation cultivation, appearing like an ordinary person as he slowly approached the War Maniac. The War Maniac did not notice him and had no reason to.
In the Tang Empire's borderlands, who would dare to touch him?
"Please, spare us, my lord..." The maidservants cried out in despair, their faces pale with fear.
The War Maniac's subordinates were driven by desire, their faces flushed and eyes lewdly gleaming as they twisted their expressions into mocking smiles. "Ha ha, scream! Scream louder! I like it."
Unbeknownst to him, Lin Feng had reached the front of the War Maniac. Facing each other, Lin Feng slowly raised his head.
"Who the hell are you? Get lost! Hurry up and call out that brat Manman, or I'll tear down the Fragrant Tower today."
The War Maniac was displeased at being blocked and lifted his foot to kick Lin Feng in the chest.
Lin Feng decisively struck out, his right hand accurately gripping the War Maniac's toes. "The Horizontal Blade Camp is on official business. Unrelated persons should leave immediately."
The War Maniac attempted to retract his right leg but felt something binding it, making it impossible to move. He squinted drunkenly at Lin Feng. When he finally recognized Lin Feng's face, he shook his head in disbelief; his cultivation dissipated as the effects of alcohol faded away. The War Maniac regained his composure and said, "Li Daye, are you... human or ghost?"
"And you?"
Lin Feng launched a fierce attack targeting the War Maniac's joints and vital points without giving him a moment to react. If the War Maniac managed to retreat, it would be difficult for Lin Feng to subdue him with his own cultivation.
Boom! Boom! Boom...
Lin Feng unleashed a barrage of punches imbued with terrifying Fist Force aimed at the War Maniac. The War Maniac struggled to defend himself against the relentless assault. Lin Feng's speed was too fast; countless shadows of fists appeared, making it impossible for the War Maniac to see them clearly. Besides relying on sheer physical strength to resist, he had no time to form seals for Divine Abilities or summon any magical artifacts.
The fists of the two men collided repeatedly, producing a series of solid thuds. With each thud, the structure of the hall trembled as if it were under siege, cracks appearing in the walls, threatening to bring the building down.
"What’s going on?" Shen Jiahe in the Parlor felt the ground shake and shouted in anger.
The subordinates of War Maniac quickly dispersed their cultivation energy, shaking off the effects of alcohol and returning to their normal state. They summoned their magical artifacts, watching Lin Feng with hawk-like intensity, yet they dared not approach for fear of injuring War Maniac.
At that moment, members of the Horizontal Blade Camp emerged from the Parlor, confusion evident on their faces as they witnessed the battle unfolding in the hall.
"My lord, what happened?" Lindor asked.
"Everyone, take action! Quickly capture these people and bring them back for interrogation."
"Understood."
Lindor, Chang Long, and others ceased their inquiries and immediately led their group into the fray against War Maniac's subordinates. These individuals unleashed their cultivation techniques and divine abilities, causing a wave of vital energy that overwhelmed the Fragrant Tower, which could not withstand the assault and began to collapse. Everyone was forced to retreat to continue fighting.
Lin Feng and War Maniac did not withdraw; a collapsing beam fell upon them, splitting into two. After exchanging blows for hundreds of rounds, War Maniac began to falter.
War Maniac's physical strength and defense could not compare to Lin Feng's. Each punch he managed to block from Lin Feng brought him immense pain; his fists were now bloodied and mangled, his own blood soaking them, with even his bones twisted beyond recognition.
With every collision of their fists came a backlash that pressured his internal organs. As this pressure accumulated over time, damage began to manifest.
"You dare to hurt me? I will swallow you whole, along with your ancestors for eighteen generations!"
War Maniac roared in fury, his bloodied fists throbbing painfully with each slight movement, let alone enduring Lin Feng's heavy strikes.
Thunderous roars echoed as the Fragrant Tower continued to collapse. In just a short while, it was completely destroyed.
"My Fragrant Tower..." Qiu Fu cried out in anguish, tears streaming down his face.
The Horizontal Blade Camp, with its overwhelming numbers, had subdued all of War Maniac's subordinates. The crowd couldn't help but glance at the collapsed Fragrant Tower, wondering what the situation inside was like.
Bang! Bang! Bang...
With a series of explosive sounds, two figures flew out from the ruins of the Fragrant Tower. War Maniac appeared as if he were a puppet, unable to move, while Lin Feng relentlessly pounded him with punches. The force behind each blow propelled them out of the fallen structure.
When War Maniac hit the ground, he was already in a state of unconsciousness. However, he had only sustained physical injuries, which were among the lightest types of damage for a Cultivator; a few medicinal pills would suffice for recovery, and he would wake up soon.
Lin Feng had dislocated War Maniac's joints with his strikes, leaving him sprawled on the ground like a broken doll, looking somewhat deformed.
Shen Jiahe watched this scene in shock, unable to believe Lin Feng possessed such strength. He had actually captured War Maniac. Although War Maniac was also at the peak of Fate Realization, he had ranked seventh in the previous Jiuzhou Gathering Conference, surpassing Shen Jiahe in power. Shen Jiahe knew he was no match for him.
"Could it be that the Sword Saint has begun taking disciples? Otherwise, how could Solitary Moon City produce such an outstanding young disciple?"
As Shen Jiahe pondered this, he approached Lin Feng and asked, "Lord Lin, do you know who he is?"
"Isn't he just the madman War Maniac?" Lin Feng snorted coldly.
Shen Jiahe's expression turned fearful as he said, "He is the right-hand man of the Governor; we cannot afford to offend him. We should release him quickly; otherwise, he will lead his troops to destroy our camp."
"This is Dongping County; we won't let someone from his district run rampant here," Lin Feng replied dismissively. He was solely focused on avenging Li Daye and wouldn't easily let go of this rare opportunity.
Seeing Lin Feng leave with his men, Shen Jiahe immediately called over one of his subordinates and instructed, "Quickly inform General Zhu that General Wu has been captured by Lin Feng."
"Yes," the subordinate replied with a salute before swiftly departing.
Back at the military camp, Lin Feng summoned Chang Long and said, "Chang Long, your Imperial Guard Headquarters is coercing a confession under false pretenses. This War Maniac is slaughtering innocents and using the heads of humans to impersonate demons for credit. Even worse, Qiu Zongbi was killed by him. Do you have a way to make him confess?"
Chang Long revealed a sinister expression and replied, "Rest assured, my lord. If he is handed over to us at the Imperial Guard Headquarters, there is no one who won't speak the truth."
"Very well. Additionally, his cultivation is astonishing; you must tread carefully. Time is of the essence," Lin Feng said with a serious look.
"My lord, just watch."
Chang Long skillfully tied the War Maniac to a wooden stake and then took out a pair of black iron chains, intricately engraved with complex patterns. He methodically pierced the War Maniac's body with these chains.
Ahh...
The madman screamed in agony, waking up from the excruciating pain.
After finishing, Chang Long said, "My lord, these are special chains forged by Lida; we call them Lock Veins. Their structure is somewhat similar to Xuanjia meridians. They must control all the meridians in the human body, preventing any cultivation from being activated."
"Good stuff," Lin Feng remarked as he looked at the Lock Veins, feeling an urge to acquire a set for himself when the opportunity arose.
"Bold criminal, why don't you reveal your name?"
The War Maniac gritted his teeth against the intense pain and shouted angrily, "You bastard! Who the hell are you to interrogate me? Who are you?"
Chang Long sneered and took out some silver needles, continuously stabbing them into the War Maniac's body. For some unknown reason, the War Maniac's entire body began to convulse as if enduring unbearable agony.
"What is your name? Speak it!" Chang Long barked coldly.
The War Maniac gasped for breath, cold sweat pouring down his forehead. His vision blurred as he looked around and gradually remembered Lin Feng.
"Why does this place have methods from the Imperial Guard Headquarters? Is this the Imperial Guard Headquarters' Black Prison? Damn you, Li Daye! Come out here! Listen up, I am the Vice General of the Tang Empire's Border Twelve Prefectures. In Border Twelve Prefectures, I am above ten thousand men. Do you dare to torture me? Let me go at once, or I will flay you alive!"
"Still trying to act tough? It seems we need to get serious."
Chang Long took out a silver hook and skillfully threw it. The hook pierced into War Maniac's body. As the silver hook vanished in an instant, War Maniac let out a heart-wrenching scream.
"Ahhh... it hurts like hell..."
War Maniac cried out repeatedly, his loud yet piercing wails echoing throughout the dungeon, instilling fear in all who heard.
After several rounds of torment, War Maniac finally came to terms with reality and obediently said, "I am War Maniac. Damn it, since you dared to capture me, you already know my name, so why ask?"
"Liang, record this accurately," Lin Feng instructed a young man beside him.
"Yes." Liang held a brush and began to record War Maniac's words faithfully.
"You really have some nerve, capturing me and still daring to use extrajudicial punishment. Do you even have any Rule of Law left?" War Maniac couldn't help but threaten.
Chang Long responded with a cold laugh, "It's rare for General Wu to even mention the Rule of Law. Today, we'll make sure to uphold it."
"For the past ten years in Dongping County, many merchants have been robbed and killed. Even the entire Qin Family was slaughtered. Do you know your crimes?" Chang Long asked.
War Maniac's expression turned serious as he suddenly realized these people had come prepared. The Imperial Guard Headquarters was known for its ruthless methods.
"What nonsense are you spouting? As a general on the frontier, I have made countless contributions to the Tang Empire. What is your motive in falsely accusing me?" War Maniac retorted.
Chang Long revealed a sinister smile and said, "It seems General Wu doesn't quite understand us at the Imperial Guard Headquarters. What we just did was merely an appetizer. Now it's time for the main course."
After finishing his words, Chang Long pulled out an object from his storage bag. It was completely black and resembled a worm, only the size of a fingernail.
Upon seeing the black creature, War Maniac's face turned pale with fear. "Blood-Sucking Parasite."
"Rarely does General Wu recognize this item. Once it merges with the general's body, extracting it will be nearly impossible. It only seeks blood, until it is fully satisfied."
"You bastard, if you have the guts, kill me with one strike. What kind of torture is this?" The War Maniac screamed in fear; he had heard of this kind of parasite. If the Essence Blood within him was consumed, not only would his cultivation diminish significantly, but his lifespan would also be greatly reduced. This was a deadly substance for any cultivator.
Seeing the Bloodthirsty Parasite wriggling on his face, inching closer to his forehead, the War Maniac felt a chill run down his spine, and his fear reached its peak. He couldn't help but say, "Get that damned disgusting thing away from me. You’re ruthless; I admit it. Those were all my doing."
"Very well. We'll take it one step at a time and record everything truthfully."
At that moment, Lindor hurriedly arrived at the Prison and saw Lin Feng looking anxious. "My lord, there's a serious matter..."
Lin Feng immediately interrupted Lindor to prevent the War Maniac from overhearing. He led Lindor aside and asked, "What is it?"
"Their Armored Soldiers have mobilized and surrounded our military camp tightly. If we don't hand over their general, they will massacre our camp."
"Hmph, just in time."
Lin Feng revealed a decisive expression. After giving some instructions to Chang Long, he immediately left with Lindor.
