Chapter Eighty-Nine: Old Tricks
In ancient times, there were four renowned Spirit Monkeys, each possessing extraordinary power. They were the Spirit Stone Monkey, Red-Butt Macaque, Gibbon, and Six-Eared Macaque.
These four Spirit Monkeys each had their own distinct characteristics. However, the monkey on Lin Feng's shoulder bore some resemblance to the four great Spirit Monkeys, yet also had notable differences.
"Could it be that a fifth Spirit Monkey has been born between the earth?" Demon Two said, casting a glance at the Barbarian leader Utakak not far away.
Utakak shook his head and pondered, "I do not know if a fifth Spirit Monkey has appeared in this world, but I can be certain that it is an immature Spirit Monkey. As for its Bloodline, it is impossible to determine at this moment."
At this point, Utakak paused and looked at Demon Two with a serious expression. "Tu Brother, I, a Barbarian, am willing to kill this person for you. I hope Tu Brother will generously allow me to claim this monkey as my own; I would be immensely grateful."
Tu Jue showed signs of hesitation. If it truly was a Spirit Monkey, its value was incomparable. The Demon Clan also associated with fierce beasts but differed somewhat from the Barbarians.
The Barbarians befriended fierce beasts of similar rank, while the Demon Clan traditionally avoided common fierce beasts. Their goal was Ancient Beasts, establishing Bloodline contracts with them to gain supreme power.
If that monkey were a spiritual beast or an Ancient Beast, it would hold significant meaning for the Demon Clan as well. Over endless time, most Ancient Beasts had gone extinct or vanished without a trace. Those that survived were exceedingly rare.
The Ancient Beasts still alive today, whether Ancient Spirit Beasts or Ancient Beasts, were undoubtedly the strongest beings in existence. This was also the fundamental reason why lesser fierce beasts feared Spirit Monkeys.
"If it is a Spirit Monkey, to disregard such a rare treasure would be a sin. I would have no face to return and meet my master," Tu Jue thought as he gazed at the Spirit Monkey, his mind drifting far away.
If he raised this Spirit Monkey and established a Bloodline contract with it, the Manifestation of Divine Powers he could exhibit would be terrifying. It should be noted that the Manifestation of Divine Powers displayed by the Seventy-Two Demonic Followers did not all originate from truly surviving fierce beasts; they were merely illusions created through special Mystical Arts and ancient Bloodline contracts.
The living and the dead could not be on the same level.
"We Barbarians have traveled thousands of miles to assist you and are unwilling to part with even a monkey. Such a cold alliance is better left unformed," an imposing man beside Utakak said angrily.
Demon Five sneered twice at these words and replied, "One loud shout scared away your Barbarian Tens of Thousands of Troops; do you think this is just an ordinary monkey? If you Barbarians take action, you should provide what is due and seek out those who deserve it. Besides, we have never been allies from the beginning."
"What? Do you want to fight?" The man's anger intensified.
"Clown! Simple-minded and brawny—come on!" Demon Five taunted arrogantly.
The demon clan and the Barbarians had more people joining the verbal battle. Since neither of their leaders spoke up, both sides were merely indulging in a war of words. Tu Jue and Utakak exchanged glances in silence, seemingly testing each other's patience and trying to guess one another's thoughts.
Lin Feng cherished this precious moment of rest. He stood quietly, taking out pieces of flesh from the Six-Stage Seven-Stage Beast to consume. While they were engaged in their discussions, Lin Feng had already finished eating seven Six-Stage Beasts and three Seven-Stage Beasts.
This flesh was Lin Feng's trump card. He had preserved it for a long time, originally planning to consume it at a critical moment during the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference. However, with the current difficulties, there was no talk of the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference.
Lin Feng had pre-cooked these pieces of meat and cut them into palm-sized chunks. He kept swallowing them, while the Barbarians paid him no mind. If they knew the quantity Lin Feng was consuming, it would surely astonish them.
Beasts had a strict hierarchy based on power; they feared being devoured by beasts of a higher rank. However, humans did not share such reverence, especially not for a Spirit Monkey that had yet to mature. Thus, the Spirit Monkey posed no deterrent to the ten Barbarians and Ten Great Demons.
The monkey lazily sat on Lin Feng's shoulder, occasionally scratching its head and looking around, somewhat bored.
Utakak broke the silence first, saying, "Tu Brother, must we really fight over this?"
"What do you think, Uta?" Tu Jue retorted.
"We each have ten Fate Realization experts. But let’s not forget that we also have ten Seven-Stage Beasts as allies. Our combined strength surpasses yours," Utakak attempted to highlight the disparity in their strengths.
Tu Jue snapped his fingers, his aura still thick with malice as he coldly snorted, "What a bold claim. You are currently standing in territory occupied by our demon clan."
"Must we fight?"
"This Spirit Monkey is something our demon clan has set its sights on."
"I, as a Barbarian, will not back down."
Lin Feng felt particularly good at this moment, especially watching both sides bicker with palpable tension in the air. He knew that neither side would actually come to blows; those who had cultivated to such a level of Foundation were not fools who would make things easy for a common enemy like himself.
However, this at least gave Lin Feng time to consume the beast flesh.
As too much beast flesh entered Lin Feng's body, it transformed into surging spiritual power that wildly integrated into his Internal Organs, bones, and flesh. Lin Feng's injuries were recovering at an astonishing rate, and his Vital Energy was replenishing rapidly.
As Lin Feng's cultivation reached its peak once again, a powerful pressure radiated outward like ripples in water.
"What is he doing?" Demon Five looked at Lin Feng with curiosity.
"It seems like he's eating something."
"It looks like the flesh and blood of a ferocious beast."
"Is that the cultivation method of a Barbarian?"
Several Cultists discussed among themselves, then turned their attention to the Barbarian.
"He's just eating, but he hasn't activated any Mystical Arts to absorb the spiritual energy from the flesh and blood."
"It seems he doesn't know the Mystical Arts mantra for absorbing the blood and flesh of ferocious beasts; he's relying solely on his physical body to absorb it. Most of it is spilling out."
"The powerful aura he emits is indeed due to the blood and flesh of ferocious beasts leaking out of his body."
"He's quite foolish, yet that piece of meat in his hand looks somewhat familiar."
"It's an Ice Snow Serpent, a Seven-Stage Beast."
"He's actually devouring a Seven-Stage Beast without using any Mystical Arts to absorb it. This... is wasteful."
Among the Barbarians, some began to discuss. As frequent consumers of ferocious beast flesh for cultivation, they looked at him with a mix of admiration and curiosity, eager to share their insights.
To Utakak's left, a burly man who had been silent all along quietly observed Lin Feng. This person had a completely different demeanor from the other Barbarians. While most Barbarians were boisterous and fierce, he appeared much more reserved, clearly not fitting their style.
Utakak turned to the man and asked, "What have you noticed?"
"So far, he has consumed seven six-stage ferocious beasts and five Seven-Stage Beasts."
Upon hearing this, the Barbarians were left speechless. Eating seven six-stage ferocious beasts wasn't particularly difficult, but consuming five Seven-Stage Beasts was no easy feat; it was quite dangerous.
Utakak's expression grew serious. "Are you sure?"
"I have been watching this person," the man replied quietly.
Utakak looked at Lin Feng, a hint of confusion and surprise in his eyes. With his current cultivation level, he could only consume the flesh and spiritual power of six Seven-Stage Beasts at most at one time. Any more than that would cause his body to be unable to bear it and explode.
Lin Feng, who was far inferior to him, seemed to be holding on despite not understanding the Martial Arts Technique for refining and absorbing. His body should have exploded by now.
Lin Feng cherished the peaceful time he had now. He didn't have time to savor each bite; he took a few quick bites and swallowed them down. He felt his mouth was somewhat stiff, as if it had lost sensation. Yet, his mouth continued to chew. He couldn't tell if the drive to keep going came from his willpower or something else.
The sixth Seven-Stage Beast: Blazing Tiger.
Lin Feng kept stuffing meat into his mouth, enduring nausea, the torment of spiritual power, and the fatigue in his teeth. He had only one thought: eat, keep eating.
The Seven-Stage Beasts were powerful; he had only captured ten in total.
The seventh Seven-Stage Beast: Cold Snow Worm.
Qiqi Hade, Utakak's capable general and strategist, looked extremely grim. The earlier clear skies had turned cloudy, then darkened into a stormy gloom. He exclaimed, "He has already consumed the seventh one."
"Qiqi Hade, you must be seeing things. The highest record in Wutashan is only eight Seven-Stage Beasts consumed," a Barbarian man said incredulously, doubting Qiqi Hade's count.
Wutashan was the strongest among the younger generation of Barbarians, holding a higher status than Utakak.
Lin Feng felt not just his mouth but even his entire head beginning to lose sensation. His body started to feel numb as well. An indescribable pain coursed through him, numbing him all over.
Even though Lin Feng was accustomed to severe pain, even though his face had lost feeling, it twitched uncontrollably; the muscles in his arms twitched, as did those in his chest, abdomen, thighs, and legs.
The only thing still conscious was his Divine Consciousness, but it too was slowly being overwhelmed by the immense Spiritual Power Torment and feared it wouldn't hold out much longer. Lin Feng put away the Ancient Cauldron and prepared to engage in a battle driven by madness.
He didn't know what the outcome would be if he continued like this, but he had no better options.
"The eighth Seven-Stage Beast: Earthly Rat." Qiqi Hade, usually so certain, was now shocked into silence and began to panic slightly.
Utakak felt a jolt at this number. Only those who consumed the flesh of ferocious beasts for cultivation understood what this number truly meant.
The legacy of the Barbarian has endured through the ages, with the highest number that Fate Realization can achieve being eleven. This talent is embodied in the current Barbarian King.
Throughout the history of the Barbarian, this terrifying number has never appeared before or after the reign of the Barbarian King. Not even the number ten has been reached by anyone.
"I think we should take action and kill this person before anything else," Tu Jue said to Lin Feng, feeling a chill of apprehension for the first time. When Lin Feng had severed his arm, he had not felt this way.
It was because Lin Feng had won through the might of the Golden Dragon Armor, making him seem unworthy of serious consideration.
"We cannot act yet; I want to see this person's limits," Utakak said quietly, watching Lin Feng like a Magic One, eager to see what numbers he would achieve next.
"We should act now; we can't wait until he becomes stronger," Qiqi Hade urged calmly, suppressing her shock.
Utakak stepped forward on his fierce beast, unleashing his full cultivation. With an imposing presence, he declared, "No one is allowed to interrupt this person; otherwise, I will fight with all my strength."
