Chapter 15: Lin Bai's Sword
In the Sky Above, a towering sword stood, resembling a river surging with waves. The flowing water was not real but an embodiment of countless surging Vital Energy.
Cold Rain gazed at the giant sword of Void with awe and said, "The Sword Saint's talent is truly remarkable."
At the Azure Cloud Sect, in the back mountains, Helan Mountain, the leader of the Qingyun Sect, stared intently at the giant sword of Void. He remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking, "The Great River Sword Technique; Lin Bai's cultivation has advanced remarkably."
Within the Gaojing Imperial Palace, the Martial Emperor stood outside the grand hall. Despite his white hair, he exuded an imposing presence. Beside him stood a Glamorous Lady.
The Martial Emperor pondered aloud, "With such talent in the Tang Dynasty, they can fend off the demon race and guard against foreign invasions. It's a pity that although the Zhou Dynasty is filled with talents, we lack someone as young and exceptional as Lin Bai."
The Glamorous Lady smiled gracefully and comforted him, "When Cold Rain grows up, catching up to Lin Bai is not impossible. Among this generation of disciples, He Rongsheng is also our Zhou Dynasty's future."
The Martial Emperor sighed and replied, "After all, we still need to wait. My Zhou is one of the oldest empires, but it has begun to decline."
The Glamorous Lady reassured him, "The princes are all working hard to cultivate and strive to connect with young talents."
"While we old relics are still around, we have a few more years ahead of us. For the sake of Zhou, we should make some preparations," said the Martial Emperor, his gaze distant and filled with endless thoughts.
The Great River Sword shone like the sun and moon in the sky, illuminating all of Gaojing and making even day and night pale in comparison.
The entire Gaojing was fixated on the massive sword, regardless of their strength.
However, there were a few exceptions.
Tang Jiner was one of them. She had just approached Lin Feng, intending to ask him something, but he suddenly took off at high speed, leaving her stunned. What did that mean? Was he not going to return my Xuanjia?
Mo Mo was another exception. She watched the direction in which Lin Feng had disappeared and quietly murmured, "Lin Feng, how do you know my Yunlu Xian Sect's Holy Art?"
During Lin Feng's battle with Zhu Xi, there was a moment when he displayed an illusion technique. Others might not have noticed, but Mo Mo remembered it vividly. The Holy Art of the Yunlu Xian Sect was never shared with outsiders; how could Lin Feng have learned it?
Magenta also did not pay attention to the giant sword. As Lin Feng left, she hurried after him, having no time to spare for the sword.
Lin Feng soared through the air, racing like a shooting star across the sky, leaving behind a white trail.
In the Void, Lin Bai's sword crashed to the ground, embedding itself into the earth.
The entire Gaojing trembled as if an earthquake had erupted.
Lin Feng finally arrived at the site where the giant sword had fallen. It was a desolate wilderness on the outskirts of Gaojing, completely devoid of life. At this moment, the giant sword had vanished, leaving behind an astonishingly large pit.
"Miaomiao, where are you?"
Without hesitation, Lin Feng jumped into the giant pit.
The giant pit was enormous. Lin Feng found himself within it, feeling like an ant that had fallen into a bowl of soup. The ground was scorched by devastating Vital Energy, leaving behind a lifeless expanse of black.
Ever since Lin Miaomiao had used the jade slip bestowed by Elder Xu, Lin Feng had given her the jade slip granted by the Sword Saint Senior, hoping it would serve as a protective treasure for Miaomiao.
Thus, upon seeing the manifestation of the Great River Sword Technique, Lin Feng knew that Miaomiao was in grave danger.
Within the giant pit, there remained Residual Energy. The temperature was extremely high. Although it could not burn Lin Feng's powerful body, it made him sweat profusely.
“Miaomiao, where are you?”
Lin Feng anxiously shed tears as he searched the depths of the pit. However, it was empty; there was no sign of Miaomiao.
“Right, how terrifying is the might of the Sword Saint Senior's strike? Miaomiao should be fine, right? I need to hurry back to the noodle shop and see what's going on.”
As Lin Feng leaped out of the giant pit and attempted to leave, a figure blocked his path.
The person was dressed in black and wore a mask, holding a sword in their right hand and a yellowed talisman in their left.
“A dual practitioner of talismans and swords at the Enlightenment Realm.”
Lin Feng felt a surge of alarm but maintained his composure. He looked at the masked figure and calmly asked, “Who are you? Why are you blocking my way?”
The figure in black replied indifferently, “Given my appearance, you should have guessed that I am here to kill you.”
"The senior from the Enlightenment Realm wants to kill me; it's as simple as stepping on an ant. Please enlighten me, so I can understand my demise," Lin Feng asked, gripping the jade slip bestowed upon him by Master Ancestor.
The masked man in black did not seem in a hurry to act. Instead, he said, "In Gaojing, anyone who does what they shouldn't must die. Think about it—since you arrived in Gaojing, what have you done that you shouldn't have?"
Lin Feng pondered for a moment before asking, "Are you one of Zhu God General's people?"
Having defeated Zhu Xi today, Lin Feng had gained fame but also made enemies of the Azure Cloud Sect and the Zhu Family. With Zhu Xi's wealthy and spoiled personality, would she let this go easily?
The masked man shook his head. "If I were from the Zhu Family, you would already be dead. Why would I waste time with your nonsense?"
"Not from the Zhu Family?" Lin Feng began to think carefully again.
Time was precious to him. He needed to return and find out about Miaomiao's situation. However, this person came to kill him, and he wondered if they were connected to whoever harmed Miaomiao.
Thus, understanding the opponent's background became crucial.
As Lin Feng contemplated, he said, "Recently in Gaojing, the only thing I've done is open a noodle shop in Azure Fish Alley. Are you from the Qingshan Gang?"
The masked man revealed a disdainful smile. "If the Qingshan Gang had someone like me, how could they be swallowed by the Flying Fish Gang? I am their superior."
"The superior has many tasks that require subordinates like the Qingshan Gang to handle. Gaojing is vast, but there are few influential sects like the Qingshan Gang or Flying Fish Gang. If you allied with the Flying Fish Gang and wiped out our subordinates, we would have many matters left unattended. Shouldn't you be held accountable for that?"
"I see now," Lin Feng realized completely.
The Black-Clad Masked Man said, "You performed well in the first trial of the Jiu Zhou Gathering. The previous group is quite satisfied. If you are willing to take on the role of our next leader, you can avoid death today."
"Is that why you've been talking nonsense to me?" Lin Feng asked.
"As your previous benefactor, we will fully support you in establishing your gang. We will cover all expenses," the Black-Clad Masked Man replied.
Lin Feng didn't hesitate and said, "That's fine, but I need to know who my benefactor is."
The Black-Clad Masked Man suddenly snorted with a laugh. "That is impossible. The next group only acts according to the orders of their benefactor."
Lin Feng tightened his grip on his Sword Technique, wanting to clarify things before taking action. "If I don't even know who my benefactor is, anyone could come up to me with a mask and claim to be my benefactor, asking me to do things. Wouldn't I be forced to comply with everyone?"
"You are new to Gaojing and unaware of the rules. If we were your benefactors, we would naturally have our special orders," the masked man explained.
Lin Feng understood that this person would not reveal the identity of the one behind the scenes and said, "What if I refuse?"
"Simple: death. Choosing a leader for the next group is an easy task in Gaojing. We only offered you this opportunity because we see potential in you," the masked man stated.
Lin Feng looked at him seriously and said, "I cannot work with my enemies. That would be like seeking shelter from a tiger; I would eventually die at your hands."
"Then you have only death awaiting you. It's a pity after all this talk," the masked man concluded.
With that decision made, he acted decisively. With a flick of his mind, the talisman in his hand burst into golden light and then flew toward Lin Feng.
The yellow talisman paper slowly expanded, eventually falling to the ground like a wall, surrounding Lin Feng. The surface of the talisman was covered in red symbols and illustrations, embodying the power of Vital Energy.
The talisman was, in fact, a combination of formations and momentum condensed onto paper.
In Northern Jizhou, there was a sect known as the Divine Talisman Sect, the foremost sect in the art of talismans. At this Jiuzhou Gathering Conference, disciples of the Divine Talisman Sect had all passed the first trial without exception.
"Didn’t see that coming."
Lin Feng sighed, realizing that this person was deliberately concealing their true Divine Technique while revealing their identity. With Enlightenment Realm cultivation, they could easily kill someone at the early Fate Realization stage with just a flick of their hand.
Lin Feng knew it was time to act; waiting any longer would be meaningless and would only put him in danger.
The towering talisman wall, several meters high, embedded into the ground, radiated golden lines of light. As the figure in black continued to form seals, these lines shot out from the yellow talisman paper, piercing towards Lin Feng's body.
Seeing the golden lines with destructive cutting force approaching, Lin Feng hesitated not for a moment and crushed the jade slip in his hand.
A terrifying power surged forth, an unimaginable destructive force spreading out like ripples from Lin Feng's center. The golden lines disintegrated upon contact with the Vital Energy Wave emitted from the shattered jade slip. Simultaneously, the circular talisman wall crumbled into pieces as the slip shattered.
The power contained within the jade slip was overwhelmingly shocking; wherever it passed, all life was obliterated. In this desolate wilderness, houses and vegetation turned to ash.
The Black-Clad Masked Man felt a wave of death wash over him at the moment he saw the jade slip break. Without a second thought, he turned to flee.
However, as soon as he turned around, he was caught in the wave of power unleashed by the jade slip and was instantly reduced to nothingness.
The jade tablet was overwhelmingly powerful, pulsating with countless Vital Energies. Only the spot where Lin Feng stood was a safe zone. These Vital Energies surged wildly above the wilderness, eventually converging into a sword.
Seeing the might of the Ancestor's strike, Lin Feng was both astonished and impressed. This sword strike, used against an Initial Stage of Enlightenment Foundation Walker, felt somewhat wasted; it could have been better utilized.
The Initial Stage of Enlightenment Foundation Walker perished without even exhausting the power of this Pointing Sword.
"Such a powerful Sword Technique could probably kill even a Master Realm opponent in an instant, right? I've seen the Sword Technique of the Sword Saint Senior, and compared to that of Master Ancestor, it isn't much weaker. I believe Miaomiao should be fine now."
Having traveled from Solitary Moon City to Zhongzhou, Lin Feng and Lin Miaomiao possessed a total of three Sword Techniques. With the final Sword Technique unleashed, all their life-saving methods were exhausted.
Looking at the shattered jade tablet, the sword qi continued to surge wildly, lingering for a long time. Lin Feng furrowed his brows.
"We've only been in Zhongzhou for less than ten days and have already used up two jade tablets. The road ahead will only become more difficult. How are Miaomiao and I supposed to continue?" (To be continued...)
