Chapter 1: The Rise of the Great Tang
In the palace of the Great Zhou.
"Your Majesty, the coalition of the Demon Clan and the Barbarians has besieged Chang'an. They have already breached two city gates. With the fall of the Great Tang imminent, our unification of the human race is just around the corner. Congratulations, Your Majesty."
The Martial Emperor listened to the report from the Great Zhou's First Divine General, his expression remaining unchanged.
"As long as Princess Jian'an's head is not in hand, and Chang'an has not been completely conquered, we cannot claim victory," the Martial Emperor declared with authority.
The Great Zhou's First Divine General pondered for a moment and replied, "Is Your Majesty worried about the Wind Nation? They are just two young girls; they pose no threat."
"The longevity of a dynasty relies on unity and the will of the people. You, not being of royal blood, do not understand what Imperial Aura signifies. Throughout history, there have been many instances of dynasties surviving against all odds. Keep a close watch on Chang'an's movements, as well as on the Wind Spirit and their Wind Army," instructed the Martial Emperor.
"Understood."
In Yang Prefecture, at the Fire Departure Sect.
Everyone in the Fire Departure Sect had not stepped outside for months. It was not due to a lack of desire but rather an inability to do so. In front of the Fire Departure Sect stood a man in white.
One man and one sword blocked the entrance to the Fire Departure Sect. This man was Lin Bai.
Before Lin Bai lay several corpses—each one a Grand Elder-level figure from the Fire Departure Sect, their cultivation having reached Foundation Establishment.
Lin Bai stood at a strategic distance. If he advanced further, he would enter the Mountain Guardian Formation of the Fire Departure Sect. If he stepped back even slightly, those from the Fire Departure Sect might have a chance to escape.
The Fire Master glared at Lin Bai and said, "Lin Bai, while demons invade the Great Tang, you refuse to slay their Demon Lord and instead block our doors. What is your intention?"
Lin Bai held his sword silently, standing firm before him.
A line ran through the middle of Lin Bai and Fire Master. This line was drawn with the blood of the deceased Grand Elder of the Fire Departure Sect. Written along the line were words: "Those who cross this line shall die."
"Lin Bai, you are being too arrogant. Do you really think you are invincible in Yang Prefecture? In terms of seniority, you are merely a junior, showing such disrespect towards me. Are you seeking death?" Fire Master shouted again.
Lin Bai remained silent.
"Jiang Wannian's rebellion against the Tang Dynasty is his own affair; what does it have to do with my Fire Departure Sect? Lin Bai, what exactly do you want? Does Solitary Moon City truly wish to perish alongside my Fire Departure Sect?"
"If you insist on forcing a confrontation that would destroy both Solitary Moon City and Fire Departure Sect's millennia-old foundations, then I can only accompany you to the end."
Fire Master gradually dispersed his cultivation, opening a hole. A terrifyingly hot temperature radiated from within. This was a hole and power unique to the Cave Profound Realm.
Tang Dynasty. Chang'an.
Chang'an was vastly different from before. Layer upon layer of formations surrounded the city. These formations were all constructed from Essence Stones and resonated with the Imperial Aura of the Tang royal family, exhibiting formidable defensive capabilities.
The coalition of demons and barbarians was full of energy, eager to conquer Chang'an at any moment, each one brimming with vigor. After breaking through one formation after another, they finally let out an angry roar: "Who the hell did this? Damn it, why dig so many formations without anyone guarding them?"
Just as the demons and barbarians entered Chang'an and began to let their guard down, scattered High-Level Armored Soldiers of the Tang Dynasty launched surprise attacks, killing a few before retreating immediately.
The demons and barbarians, unfamiliar with the terrain, had no time to pursue.
This kind of non-injurious attack method slowly wore down the forces of the demons and barbarians while also consuming more of the Tang Dynasty's Armored Soldiers' cultivation.
The demons and barbarians were disturbed by such guerrilla tactics, feeling as if they were surrounded by mosquitoes while trying to sleep—extremely irritable. It was infuriating; just when they turned on the light to swat at a mosquito, it would vanish without a trace.
"Damn it, come out and fight me one-on-one!"
"Get out here, you cowardly bastards of the Tang Dynasty! Your grandfather is here!"
The First Demon General watched as his soldiers grew increasingly restless. He felt helpless and ordered, "Everyone, ignore those provocations and focus on breaking through the defenses. We need to find the Tang Princess as soon as possible."
To the west of Chang'an City, a massive crowd had gathered. There were Tang soldiers and citizens alike. The Tang soldiers wore tense expressions, gripping their weapons tightly. The citizens shrank back in fear, uncertain if they would see the sun rise again.
Tang Jiner looked at the approaching demon and barbarian armies and said, "Generals, can we execute the plan arranged by my father now?"
The Fifth Divine General replied, "Princess, we need to wait a little longer."
"If we wait any longer, the Fourth Divine General and the soldiers inside will likely exhaust their cultivation," she urged.
"We have no choice. They must hold on, even if it means making sacrifices at the last moment. The main forces of the demons and barbarians have not yet been fully drawn into Chang'an City," the Fifth Divine General said calmly.
"What if the demons and barbarians only plan to deploy their vanguard forces? What if the rest are waiting outside the city? They are not fools; they won't recklessly rush in all at once," Tang Jiner said anxiously.
"Princess, we have no other options left. If the barbarian and demon armies do not continue to advance, we will have to send out more troops to make resistance even fiercer," he explained.
Tang Jiner fell silent. If that were the case, it would mean more lives lost in a desperate charge. She prayed inwardly that her father's plan would turn the tide before it was too late.
The guerrilla warfare within Chang'an had lasted for three hours, and there were already reports of Armored Soldiers from Tang having their cultivation exhausted and being killed. Tang Jiner had no choice but to send in reinforcements.
The barbarian and demon armies continued to pile against the defenses, moving slowly but eventually reaching Vermilion Bird Avenue in Chang'an. This was the most prosperous area of Chang'an, home to the imperial palace.
Coming from remote areas, the demons and barbarians were captivated by the grandeur of the palaces and the dazzling array of shops.
A demon soldier burst into a goldsmith's shop, smashing through its display window and emerging with an armful of gold and silver jewelry. Just as a centurion was about to reprimand him for breaking military discipline, he froze at the sight of the glittering treasures in his hands. "Wow, so much wealth! This truly is a human capital—so rich!"
"Master, there are still many inside. I can only bring back this much."
"Then why are you just standing there? Keep going!"
The Demonic Soldiers eagerly joined the fray. At that moment, a group of Barbarian Soldiers arrived and, upon witnessing the scene, one Soldier said, "Master, they’ve taken all the gold, silver, treasures, paintings, and antiques."
"Everyone disperse and act freely," ordered the Barbarian General.
"Master, the Barbarians have started to loot as well. They’re quite quick."
"Master, those Demonic folks are really thieves; they snatched the treasures right from my hands."
"Master, this is a trading ground for cultivation. There are so many Elixirs and Divine Ability manuals here."
"Master, this is a secluded area of a powerful human cultivator. There’s an Essence Stone as tall as a mountain! Hurry, those despicable Demons are coming again."
"This is mine."
"No, it’s mine; I got to it first."
"You're full of crap; I clearly got to it first."
"You’re the one full of crap! Let go! If you don’t let go, I’ll beat you to death."
"You let go! This is the last time; if you don’t let go, I’ll take your life."
As the Demons and Barbarians fought over gold, silver treasures, Divine Ability manuals, and Elixirs, the skirmishes escalated into a full-blown brawl. The fighting grew more intense as time went on.
Seeing this scene, the Demon General commanded, "Quickly, call the brothers outside in. Damn it, those greedy Barbarians have taken all the good stuff."
The Barbarian General was not to be outdone: "You, you, and you, hurry and notify the brothers outside. This is still one street. The Tang Dynasty's palace is just ahead, and there are even more treasures inside. Let them rush in and seize what they can."
Outside the city, the waiting Barbarians and Demon Army saw their brothers emerging from within, each carrying heaps of gold and silver treasures, Divine Abilities, and Martial Arts Techniques, unable to resist swallowing their saliva.
"The brothers of the Demon Clan are starting to loot inside. Hurry up and get in!"
"Brothers of the Barbarian Clan, whoever grabs it gets to keep it. Don't let the Demon Clan get ahead of you. We shed blood and risked our lives for this moment!"
The armies of the Demon Clan and Barbarians surged into Chang'an City like a tide, nearly collapsing the city gates. Those with higher cultivation levels flew directly into the city, specifically searching for places where human cultivators were in seclusion to find treasures and useful items.
To the west of the city, Tang Jiner watched everything from a distance and finally let out a breath. "General, can we execute Father’s plan now?"
"I believe General Qi has already activated it," Fifth Divine General replied, a hint of sorrow flickering in his calm gaze.
"What? General Qi hasn't emerged yet? Does that mean he is…"
Thunderous Roars…
The intense rumbling within Chang'an City interrupted Tang Jiner's words. The entire city shook violently. Then, an endless Imperial Aura surged into Chang'an like a tidal wave.
This Imperial Aura had been accumulated by the Tang Dynasty over thousands of years. Now, in a single night, it was about to be wasted. The Imperial Tide contained unimaginable terrifying power; wherever it went, all structures turned to ash.
Ahhhhhh…
The soldiers of the Demon Clan and Barbarians let out heart-wrenching screams as they were obliterated in the tide of Imperial Aura.
"There's a Divine Ability from the Sage Realm appearing, retreat quickly!"
The Demon General and the Barbarian General shouted in terror. They frantically fled towards the city gates. Some fell to the ground, trampled by those behind them. Others took to the air, stepping on the bodies of those below as they flew.
The Imperial Tide loomed like a lid, covering all directions outside the western city.
"Help me! Someone help me! I will offer all my gold and silver treasures."
"I possess a high-level Divine Ability! Whoever saves me, I will give it to them for free."
"…"
At this moment, everyone regretted their reckless decision to enter the city and seize treasures. Why had they been so greedy? Now, they were losing their lives over these material possessions. (To be continued)
