The group led by Zusi Ma cautiously approached Mountain Valley. The reputation of the Second Ancestor was forged through bloodshed; the fall of the five Nascent Souls at Mount Hua Immortal Gate was his doing. If it truly was Zuo Dao and his companions, the situation would be dire.
Feng Yikong looked at the group outside the valley and nearly burst out laughing.
"Boss, what on earth did you do to make them look like that?"
Zuo Dao ignored his comment.
"Second Ancestor, there's no need to go all out. I think this is just the first wave of their interception. They won't confront us directly; they just want to stall us until their numbers are sufficient."
With that, Zuo Dao continued his work. However, the various sinister items in his hands had now been replaced with spirit stones.
Feng Yikong didn't mind Zuo Dao's indifference; he was merely curious about his actions.
"Boss... you’re not setting up a formation, are you?"
"You can tell that much?"
"Seriously, is there anything you can't do?"
"I wonder what it is that you don't know."
Zuo Dao felt quite frustrated; every time he was engaged in something, this guy would come over to meddle. No matter what Zuo Dao was doing, Feng Yikong always seemed to have a rough idea of it. What kind of master could teach such a disciple? His curiosity about the Seven Unruly Disciples only grew.
"Three of their appearances have been confirmed; they are indeed the ones we are looking for. However, there’s one extra person for whom we have no information," Hong Jiang reported. As a mid-stage Nascent Soul, his spiritual awareness quickly identified the personnel within Mountain Valley.
"There are two presences I can't pinpoint; they must be Yao Ming and Fire Rush. The other two consist of one at Qi Training initial stage and another suspected to be at half-step Nascent Soul. This complicates matters."
Upon hearing Hong Jiang's words, Zusi Ma's expression grew even more serious. The situation in the valley was within his spiritual awareness range, just as Hong Jiang had described.
According to the original plan, if it were indeed Zuo Dao and his companions, then two Ancient Ancestors would hold back one Nascent Soul while a ten-member Golden Core team would trap the other Nascent Soul, allowing the remaining Golden Core Disciples to swiftly take down Zuo Dao.
Now, with an additional half-step Nascent Soul in play, their original plan had completely fallen apart.
"We have no choice now. The enemy has definitely discovered our presence, and we have no way to retreat. We can only stall them at all costs until reinforcements arrive."
Zusi Ma was feeling the pressure; if he retreated, it would be impossible to explain to the Pavilion, and they were determined to secure Zuo Dao. If they lost this opportunity due to their withdrawal, he could only imagine how his standing in the Pavilion would suffer in the future.
As the group from Meteor Pavilion was making their decision, Zuo Dao clapped his hands. He looked at Mountain Valley and nodded in satisfaction.
"All set. Let's start bringing them in," he said, transforming back to his original appearance. The Second Ancestor followed suit, shedding his disguise as well.
When speculation turned into reality, Zusi Ma couldn't quite grasp what he felt inside.
Approaching Mountain Valley, Zusi Ma paused and bowed respectfully.
"Zusi Ma of Great Wind City under Meteor Pavilion greets both fellow Daoists."
"Hong Jiang of Meteor Pavilion greets both fellow Daoists."
As long as he could stall them, there was no need for a fight; Zusi Ma hoped that if he could delay until reinforcements arrived, that would be ideal.
Yao and Fire Second Ancestor ignored them, while Zuo Dao walked up to Mountain Valley and waved his hand.
"Alright, wait over there until everyone else arrives," he said before casually returning to the valley to continue his conversation with Feng Yikong.
"Are you sure this will work?" Fengzi asked, looking at Zuo Dao with some skepticism.
"What else can we do? Do you see how they look now? Do they dare to come in? Even if they did, would they dare to fight?"
"That's true, but are you really just going to make them wait?"
"If I don't make them wait, should I let them come in for a tour?" Zuo Dao replied with a hint of exasperation. It seemed Feng Yikong either didn't understand or was pretending not to understand, or perhaps he was just looking for an excuse to chat.
"The arrangements in the valley aren't very sufficient. If they discover anything unusual, how am I supposed to continue?"
The two chatted back and forth while the Second Ancestor remained absorbed in his cultivation method. After a while, another group of cultivators arrived at Mountain Valley.
"Zuma, why are you all hanging out outside the valley?" The newcomers were from Yuxian Sect, and their tone suggested familiarity with Zusi Ma.
“Xu Laoguai, why is it just you leading the team?” Zusi Ma was a bit surprised; the Yuxian Sect was being overly confident, sending only a late-stage Nascent Soul Cultivator.
“Zuma, it’s not just me. I’m simply a step ahead of them. But what are all of you doing here?” Xu Wang was quite puzzled.
Zuma didn’t explain further, merely gesturing towards the Mountain Valley.
“The people inside told us to wait until everyone arrives.”
“What?” Xu Wang felt his mind clouded. What did it mean that the people inside wanted them to wait? But after a moment of thought, he understood. The Five Ancestors of the Immortal Sect had been eliminated by the enemy, and now it was just a few of them left; waiting was certainly better than rushing to their deaths.
He had come over just to assess the situation; arriving early would yield more benefits than arriving late.
“Then let’s wait together,” Xu Wang said no more and led his group to another spot to wait patiently.
Before long, several teams from different factions arrived one after another. Upon seeing the scene in front of the valley, they were all taken aback. Those who recognized each other stepped forward to greet one another, while those who didn’t simply found a place to settle down without asking questions.
In just over half an hour, there were already more than ten different teams gathered at the Mountain Valley. The previously quiet Mountain Valley suddenly became lively. Of course, in such circumstances, only Nascent Soul Ancestors could engage in conversation; occasionally, there would be a few Golden Core True Persons present, those with power and influence.
The number of Nascent Soul Cultivators had reached twenty, while nearly two hundred Golden Core Cultivators were present. Despite this formidable force, everyone at the front of the Mountain Valley seemed hesitant. No team was willing to be the first to enter the valley.
Just as everyone was calculating their own strategies and pushing responsibility onto one another, a figure appeared from within the valley. Everyone quickly became alert.
“Hello everyone, my young master asked me to inquire if anyone else is coming. If not, please feel free to enter the valley for a discussion,” Feng Yikong said as he looked at the assembly outside the valley, feeling somewhat intimidated. Hundreds of Golden Core-level Cultivators were staring at him; although they made no moves, the invisible pressure was overwhelming.
“Who are you?” asked Zhan Fang, an elder from War Palace. Although they knew someone new had appeared in the valley, they had only learned about this person after Zuo Dao and his group left Phoenix City. However, they knew nothing about his background.
“I’m just a minor figure under my young master; I’m not worth mentioning. But my young master would like to know if you have an answer to his question,” Feng Yikong replied calmly despite facing Nascent Soul Ancestors and hundreds of higher-level Cultivators.
“You…” Zhan Fang wanted to lash out but was stopped by Fuyuan Daoist, an Ancient Ancestor standing nearby.
“Your young master sent you to ask us this?” Fuyuan gestured for Zhan Fang to calm down and turned to Feng Yikong.
“Yes, my young master did. If everyone hasn’t arrived yet, he can wait a bit longer. However, if you haven’t made a decision by sunset today, my young master will not wait any longer.” With that said, Feng Yikong ignored everyone’s reactions and disappeared into the Mountain Valley.
Outside Mountain Valley, the crowd fell silent, and it was Xu Wang who stepped forward.
"Let's wait a bit longer. My Yuxian Sect's Cultivators are on their way, and there's still some time before sunset. If it comes to that, we'll have no choice but to launch a strong attack." Xu Wang glanced at the expressions of those around him and felt it necessary to boost everyone's morale.
"I assume your respective teams are also on their way? Since Zuo Dao wants to play mind games with us, once our forces gather, we will strike with overwhelming force. At that point, we can dictate the terms."
Upon hearing this, the Cultivators nodded in agreement, quickly relaying information back to headquarters. As time passed and sunset drew nearer, the atmosphere grew increasingly tense.
Just as some Cultivators could no longer bear the mounting pressure, streaks of light appeared in the distance.
"Someone is coming!" a Cultivator shouted.
The beams of light were like rays of hope, invigorating the Cultivators present.
No one wanted to die; no one wanted to die early.
Mortals cherish their lives, but they do not know that Cultivators value life even more.
Mortals worry, while Cultivators fret; only this one remains calm amidst the chaos.
