The battle at Spirit Sword Mountain came to an end as the various cultivators retreated, leaving behind an air of silence. No one dared to ask questions; everyone remained tight-lipped. This left many of the participating factions feeling helpless, yet they did not dare to show any signs of dissatisfaction.
The attitude and compensation from Gai's Tai Fortress somewhat eased the anger of Spirit Sword Mountain. Following this, Zuo Dao chose to ignore everything else and sought out Tai Shu Yi, requesting a cave for seclusion.
His doubts, already present in his mind, were magnified infinitely by Gai Jiuyou's words. He needed to clarify what was truly happening.
Since arriving in this world, he had felt as if invisible hands were manipulating everything around him.
The appearance of the Drunken Old Man, the emergence of Wangfeng Platform, the malfunctioning Teleportation Array, and Gai Jiuyou's remarks—all these events made it clear that nothing was coincidental.
Looking at the Wudao Order in his hand, he noted that the seven stars were dim and lifeless. This indicated that the Seven Disciples had been teleported elsewhere, no longer within the Earth Altar Star Domain. Yan Zhen and the others had not sent any news; it seemed they too were not in the Earth Altar Star Domain.
If that was the case, then one thing became clear: there must be something related to him within the Earth Altar Star Domain.
Gazing up at the sky above, Zuo Dao unceremoniously extended two middle fingers.
Cultivation.
With a heavy sigh of frustration, Zuo Dao turned and walked into the cave arranged for him to begin his training.
Looking at the mountain of refining materials piled up within the residence, Zuo Dao couldn't help but smile wryly.
The sword he had gifted to Tai Shu Yun had made Tai Shu Reincarnation and other elders envious. Upon hearing that he intended to enter seclusion, they disregarded his consent and moved all the materials from Spirit Sword Mountain's repository over. Even the alchemical materials would have been entirely transported if not for needing some for Tai Shu Yun to practice with; otherwise, Tai Shu Yi would have likely taken everything as well.
The cave was undoubtedly chosen with care—spacious enough, quiet, equipped with an Alchemist's Chamber and an Inferno water chamber. It seemed Spirit Sword Mountain had put considerable effort into this arrangement. The entire cave appeared newly constructed.
Zuo Dao collected his thoughts and slowly sat down, beginning to reflect on his journey since his rebirth. Gradually, he entered a state of forgetting both himself and his surroundings.
Familiar scenes flashed before his eyes as Zuo Dao observed like an outsider, quietly watching.
He saw a ragged boy leading a group of half-grown children through the streets, enduring cold stares, angry glares, mockery, insults, and even beatings—all for a morsel of food to fill their stomachs.
A Drunken Old Man tricked a boy into climbing the mountain with just one meal.
As the boy grew up, he devoted himself to rigorous training, enduring the Ruckus of his senior brothers and the laughter of his senior sisters. There was also the time he lost his temper and beheaded someone, only to be punished at Reflection Cliff.
Scenes from Moling flashed before his eyes, yet everything and everyone had changed.
He watched quietly, reminiscing silently.
Countless emotions surged within him—joy, sorrow, pain, delight, despair, longing—like tidal waves overwhelming him.
Like the bright moon over the sea, he felt isolated in this world. Like a solitary boat adrift in the ocean, he floated through countless miles.
Each shift in emotion brought him a moment of insight.
The Sitting Forgetting Sutra, Great Dream Heart Sutra, and Supreme Ascension Spell intertwined, giving rise to grand visions.
The space around Zuo Dao slowly began to reveal scenes.
There were Universal Celebrations, fierce battles, romantic encounters under flowers and moons, and desolation everywhere; this was the World of Mortals.
As the World of Mortals evolved, divisions began to emerge.
Some focused on external power, gradually elevating themselves to become immensely strong beings capable of moving mountains and reaching for stars; they called themselves gods.
Others pursued inner cultivation to an extreme, gradually condensing their spiritual seeds to summon winds and rain, altering the earth. They referred to themselves as immortals.
At this point, great changes occurred—monsters roamed freely, and Celestial Beings descended upon the world, causing chaos among mortals.
Zuo Dao began to lose itself in its own world, completely forgetting about time.
At times it took on a mortal form to walk upon the earth, tasting the various splendors and sorrows of the World of Mortals; at other times it transformed into a great deity, experiencing its hardships; but most often it fought as an immortal on the Outer Battlefield, saving those suffering in the World of Mortals.
Time passed.
Tai Shu Yun would visit the entrance of Zuo Dao's Cave every few days, hoping to catch a glimpse of that graceful figure, but each time she returned disappointed. Tai Shu Yi and the elders would sometimes come as well, but they said little upon witnessing this scene.
A year went by like this, and Tai Shu Yun's hopes turned into despair. She found herself at a loss for what to do next, so she decided to retreat into a cave for cultivation, just like Zuo Dao. After all, the Blood Ban had just been lifted, and the Supreme Dao Lotus had begun to bloom. It was a perfect opportunity to solidify her progress. With Zuo Dao's presence looming in her mind, Tai Shu Yun found it hard to focus on her cultivation.
Inside the Cave, Zuo Dao was oblivious to anything happening outside. At this moment, he had closed off all six senses, even the pores of his body were tightly sealed. The Great Dream Hammer Sound resonated within him, while the Supreme Ascension Spell echoed in his mind. The Sitting Forgetting Sutra acted like a bridge, tightly connecting the two.
Another year passed. Most of the disciples from Spirit Sword Mountain had grown up. Tang Fengyue would often sit quietly in front of Zuo Dao's Cave whenever he had free time. Now he had become a hotshot at Spirit Sword Mountain, highly valued by Sword Master Tai Shu Yi. He was involved in all major affairs of Spirit Sword Mountain, and the elders turned a blind eye to it all because everyone knew that Tang Fengyue was the chosen one.
As he gazed silently at the tightly shut stone door before him, he reflected on the changes that had occurred in himself over these two years. Tang Fengyue was both illusory and incredibly real. He understood that everything he had today was due to the person behind that stone door.
The Lu Family would occasionally come by as well; the Spirit Sword Seven Lords had become a thing of the past, replaced now by the Spirit Sword Twin Stars.
Although their numbers had decreased by more than half, no one could deny that the power of the Twin Stars far surpassed that of the Seven Lords.
There were rumors that Tai Shu Reincarnation, the closed-door disciple of Spirit Sword Mountain's Grand Elder, had challenged the Seven Lords consecutively in one day and suffered seven defeats in a row, prompting all Seven Lords to retreat into seclusion the following day.
Additionally, there was now a new Steward at Spirit Sword Mountain who had once played seven matches against renowned masters in a certain area of the Star Domain, defeating them so thoroughly that they bled and never returned to battle again.
Tang Fengyue and the Lu Family were both in their prime; some even referred to them as the Twin Stars of Earth Altar. Among their generation, there was no one who could rival them—except for one person who had vanished after the events at Spirit Sword Mountain. However, this did not diminish his status in the hearts of many Cultivators, especially those who had participated in that battle.
Those in the know understood that it was because of that individual that the Twin Stars achieved such fame.
The Earth Altar Star Domain also entered a relatively rapid development and peaceful phase due to Zuo Dao's emergence.
Gai Jiuyou abandoned his ambitions for dominance because of Zuo Dao and chose instead to ally with Spirit Sword Mountain to forge a new path together. Thanks to Zuo Dao, Spirit Sword Mountain became a revered sanctuary for many Cultivators. However, the criteria for selecting disciples became even stricter; few Cultivators could enter Spirit Sword Mountain for training, but once selected, it became a significant event across the entire Earth Altar Star Domain.
Thus, undisturbed by external influences, Zuo Dao entered his fifth year of seclusion.
At this point, he had shed some youthful naivety and gained a measure of resolve. Years of isolation made him appear much more mature and taller. Especially notable were his long unkempt hair and beard; tangled atop his head yet not disheveled, they gave him an unconventional appearance with their length reaching nearly a foot.
Slowly opening his eyes, the strange sights in the room dissipated into the air with the flutter of his eyelids.
He stood up, shaking off the dust that clung to him, a look of confusion crossing his face. He sensed that something about him had changed, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was. However, he soon pushed the thought aside.
The room was filled with herbs and materials, all seemingly beckoning to him.
Zuo Dao stretched his limbs slightly and tidied up his appearance before launching himself forward.
The entire Spirit Sword Mountain resonated once again with that captivating Hammer Sound.
Only those who had experienced it could tell that this time, the Hammer Sound carried less warmth and more chill than before.
The Hammer Sound also roused Tai Shu Yun, who was in a state of rebellion.
Listening to the familiar Hammer Sound, tears streamed down Tai Shu Yun's cheeks.
"What has changed you so much!? I don't like you like this!"
So cold, so distant!
