The existence of the Dark Realm has become an open secret within the Celestial Realm. As long as you can pay the price, those from the Dark Realm can help you solve any problem. Of course, these matters are all unspeakable, and only the Dark Realm dares to take on such tasks.
The assassins of the Dark Realm are collectively known as the Seven Colors.
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Purple each represent a level, with varying costs associated with them. Crimson Level assassins handle the most menial tasks within the Dark Realm. They are also the only assassins who can publicly reveal their identities in the Celestial Realm because their mission levels are so low that their targets are hardly worth mentioning.
The six higher levels correspond to the six Cultivation levels of the Celestial Realm. Upon hearing this, Zuo Dao couldn't help but lower his head in contemplation.
Just the fact that such a clandestine organization like the Dark Realm could have Immortal King-level assassins speaks volumes about the chaos within the entire Celestial Realm. He believed there must be figures at the Imperial Level; however, these individuals have completely transcended worldly matters and focus solely on their own goals, indifferent to what they perceive as mundane affairs.
In the eyes of these people, Longevity Path and Voice and Power hold different weights; Zuo Dao thought they could still distinguish between them, but he did not rule out the existence of some anomalies.
For Zuo Dao, the Dark Realm was already a colossal entity. Members of this organization existed throughout the entire Celestial Realm and were even more powerful than some top-tier forces. This is why, despite calls for their eradication, no one has ever truly taken action against them.
At this point, Zuo Dao realized that his troubles were no longer his primary concern; Zhao Yanwu's issue had become a significant problem. Chen Yang also understood that rewards for designated targets in the Dark Realm were treated with utmost seriousness and would not be abandoned halfway.
Although Zhao Yanwu appeared indifferent on the surface, she was actually quite troubled inside. Despite having connections to the Dark Realm behind her, trouble was still trouble. More importantly, if they did not uncover the mastermind behind this incident, even if they resolved this issue, another would inevitably arise.
After Chen Yang revealed everything he knew about the Dark Realm, Zuo Dao fell into deep thought once again.
The three sat silently in the boat, each lost in their own thoughts. Soon enough, another leg of their journey passed under the oppressive atmosphere.
Border Town was their first teleportation point on this trip. Zhao Yanwu stowed away the Airship outside of town to minimize unnecessary complications.
Surprisingly, Chen Yang did not leave but instead followed closely behind them.
"What? Are you planning to ambush us?" Zhao Yanwu glared with her phoenix eyes.
Chen Yang didn't even glance at him, his gaze fixed solely on Zuo Dao. The meaning was clear: I’m not here for you; I’m following him.
"What are you staring at me for? I'm not worth much," Zuo Dao said, puzzled by the other person's strange behavior. It was obvious that he wasn't going to pursue him, so why not just run away?
Chen Yang knew that opportunities were rare. Although his character and morals were questionable, he had a knack for reading people. Zuo Dao's appearance sparked a glimmer of hope in him—a hope for advancement.
Every qualified assassin is a gambler, not only "stealing" others' chances but also "investing" in their own. This recent failure instilled a sense of urgency in him; luck like this wouldn’t come around every time.
His identity as an assassin meant he walked in darkness, yet deep down, he harbored a wish: even if just once, to walk openly in the Celestial Realm would bring him satisfaction.
The couple before him offered a chance to fulfill that dream.
The Dark Realm was a one-way street; he would never have considered becoming an assassin if it weren't for necessity. Now that an opportunity lay before him, how could he let it slip away?
"Though I’m an assassin and fear for my life, I can be a very effective tool," Chen Yang said, looking at Zuo Dao. "I need a chance, and only you can give it to me."
"What do you mean?" Zuo Dao asked, somewhat confused.
"Let me stay by your side; I will become a sharp sword in your hands," Chen Yang stated plainly, expressing his intentions directly. However, he knew he had to prove his worth to be accepted.
"Although I don't know what your intentions are, if you want to follow me, then go ahead," Zuo Dao replied, bringing joy to Chen Yang's heart.
"Daozi, what are you doing?" Zhao Yanwu exclaimed anxiously. She found it unbelievable that they hadn't silenced the other person already and now they were considering accepting him.
"I'm not doing anything. If he wants to follow us, let him. Having a free bodyguard isn't such a bad thing," Zuo Dao smiled.
The journey to Liu Yue City still had three or four more miles to go. He preferred not to take action unless absolutely necessary. Regardless of Chen Yang's intentions, having an extra hand was always a good thing.
Zhao Yanwu glanced between him and Chen Yang, looking helpless. "Do as you wish. Just so you know, if he has any ulterior motives, don't blame me."
"By the way, I need to borrow something from you," Zuo Dao said to Zhao Yanwu.
"What do you want to borrow?" Zhao Yanwu's mood was somewhat sour.
"A spot in the Dark Realm." Upon hearing Zuo Dao's request, Chen Yang nearly burst into tears on the spot.
Zhao Yanwu looked at him with a strange expression and pointed at Chen Yang. "You can't be asking for him, right?"
"Correct," Zuo Dao replied with a smile.
"Are you crazy? You’re all insane!" Zhao Yanwu was on the verge of breaking down; the impact these two had on him was overwhelming.
One was a killer who would act without hesitation, while the other was helping someone else obtain an identity without knowing anything. When did this become fashionable among cultivators in the Celestial Realm? How had relationships among cultivators become so friendly?
"Don't go crazy; even if you're going to lose it, finish my business first!" Zuo Dao joked.
Zhao Yanwu rubbed her forehead. If she didn't know Zuo Dao's background, she would truly suspect that these two were putting on a show in front of her.
"I'm scared of you. Not now, though. Once we reach Eastern Immortal City, I'll arrange something for him. I originally wanted you to go, but there’s only one spot available." She decided not to concern herself with their antics any longer.
"What's so fun about the Dark Realm? I'll just create my own Dark Destruction City to play around in," Zuo Dao said dismissively.
The atmosphere was relaxed, yet the listeners felt their hearts racing. Chen Yang never expected that his identity would undergo such a tremendous change in just a few sentences; a wave of overwhelming joy surged within him.
"Thank you, senior. Thank you, senior," he quickly expressed his gratitude to Zuo Dao once he regained his composure.
"Hey, why are you thanking him?" Zhao Yanwu said with annoyance, feeling as if she was preparing a dowry for someone else.
"Thank you, fairy," Chen Yang hurriedly thanked Zhao Yanwu, which finally made her relent.
The three of them walked and chatted as they headed toward the Teleportation point in the Town. An invisible wave surrounded them at all times. It was a formation set up by Zhao Yanwu; she didn’t want outsiders to overhear their conversation.
However, as soon as they revealed themselves outside the town, an invisible net spread around them. Commands and messages were being transmitted in an unknown manner.
In a secret location somewhere in the Eastern Victory Continent, several figures in black robes had gathered together. If Zuo Dao were present, he would certainly notice that these individuals wore black robes similar to the one Chen Yang had worn before. If Chen Yang were there, he would be terrified.
"I don't know why you all took this job. Now that the target has appeared, what are you going to do?" one of the men with a slightly hoarse voice asked.
"What can we do now that we've taken the mission? Pass the word down to let those green fellows move around a bit. Oh, and also get 'Azure Snake' to make a move," replied another large figure in black robes.
"Blue Bear, are you being too grandiose? It's just a Celestial General-level Array Master; do you really need this many people?" Compared to the man referred to as "Blue Bear," the one speaking now appeared quite frail.
"Azure Monkey, the target's appearance in Border Town differs somewhat from the information provided by the mission issuer. It's not just one person but three. One has been confirmed as a Yellow-Level Assassin, while the identity of another remains unknown," Blue Bear relayed the information he had received.
"How could a Yellow-Level Assassin be with the target?" asked a fourth figure in black robes upon hearing this news.
"This is unknown. The mission level is only issued for those above Yellow Rank. Moreover, members of our organization often have other identities when not executing missions; there's nothing strange about that," Blue Bear's words elicited nods of agreement from everyone present.
"Alright, we need to consider all these factors; the mission must come first. Find a way to contact the Yellow-Level Assassin who is close to the target and gather information about the situation. If possible, open this mission to that Yellow-Level Assassin." The last figure in black spoke.
His tone carried an air of authority, and upon hearing his words, the other four immediately stood up and pledged their loyalty, indicating his high status within the organization.
"This mission is extraordinary, and the identity of the target is highly sensitive. If we succeed, it may cause significant repercussions, but those are not our concern. The more chaotic the Celestial Realm becomes, the better it is for us. Remember, you must execute this task flawlessly; do not tarnish the reputation of our Dark Realm." After finishing his statement, the figure in black vanished into the darkness as if he had never been there.
"The boss is becoming increasingly inscrutable; sigh, I wonder when we will be able to take a step further! Blue Panther, you seem to have strong objections regarding this mission?" Azure Monkey suddenly asked the first speaker among them.
"Indeed, I initially opposed this mission, but from now on, completing it will be our top priority," replied the person known as Blue Panther in a calm tone.
"Alright then, let's proceed according to Blue Bear's instructions; everyone go make arrangements." After saying this, all four figures disappeared without a trace.
"Boss, we've been targeted by people from Dark Realm." After Zuo Dao asked Chen Yang to stop calling him 'senior,' Chen Yang changed his address.
"I know. Let's not worry about that for now; we need to focus on Teleportation." After greeting Zhao Yanwu, Zuo Dao urged Chen Yang to lead him quickly toward the Teleportation point.
"I'm sorry, but the Teleportation Array is currently closed. Please remain calm," a voice echoed before they reached the Teleportation Array.
"Boss, this isn't good; they've already started making their move," Chen Yang exclaimed upon hearing that voice.
The three halted their advance and waited for events to unfold.
