Killers are a type of people who will stop at nothing to complete their missions.
If it weren't for the overwhelming defense of Zuo Dao and his companions, Xing really wouldn't want to resort to using the Fire Extinguishing Strike. He had tested it out and found that even with the combined attacking power of his entire team, they couldn't break through the opponent's defenses. What frustrated him even more was that the Array Master on their ship could reinforce the defenses at any time.
This meant that as long as the Array Master remained standing, this Airship was like a moving turtle shell, impossible to penetrate.
The three on the ship also noticed a strange cylindrical object extending from the opposing squad, gathering a powerful energy orb at its tip.
"What the hell is that? A cannon?" Zuo Dao suddenly exclaimed as if he had discovered an interesting toy.
Zuo Dao was naive, but that didn't mean Zhao Yanwu and Chen Yang were the same. The three of them realized it simultaneously, but only Zuo Dao shouted out, while the other two wore expressions so grim they could have dripped water.
"Idiot, that's the Fire Extinguishing Strike." Zhao Yanwu couldn't hold back any longer and slapped Zuo Dao on the back of his head. "You fool, that thing can seriously injure or even kill an Immortal King with a single hit."
"Is it really that powerful?" Zuo Dao was a bit shocked, and at the same time, he felt a bit anxious. He wasn't sure if his reinforced Airship could withstand an Immortal King-level attack. But soon he would experience the might of the Fire Extinguishing Strike firsthand.
It was like a million Dao Swords rampaging through or like countless giant elephants trampling down. Even in mid-air, the Airship felt the vibrations from that force.
The attack came swiftly; Zuo Dao barely managed to maneuver the Airship to avoid a direct hit. Only he could have achieved such a feat in such a critical moment, dodging right past the strongest point of impact. Yet even so, all three could hear the sound of cracking metal reverberating through the hull.
That was the aftershock of the attack striking against the hull, tearing through their defensive formation and causing damage to the ship.
The three wiped sweat from their brows, and Zuo Dao finally understood how formidable an offensive magical artifact from the Celestial Realm could be.
While Zhao Yanwu and others inside the ship hadn't felt much yet, Xing and his companions outside looked as if they had seen a ghost; their usual calm demeanor as killers seemed utterly powerless under Zuo Dao's god-like control.
The rapidly advancing Airship and the shooting Fire Extinguishing Strike were about to collide when suddenly, it was as if a giant hand pulled them aside, shifting them one ship's length away and narrowly avoiding a direct hit—only brushing against them with residual waves.
Xing could hardly believe what he was witnessing. He recalled an earlier incident when he had used the "Fire Extinguishing Strike" to eliminate a "Blue" level assassin who had fled from the Dark Realm. That assassin, known for his speed within the Dark Realm, had been utterly obliterated.
As he snapped out of his shock, he realized he had missed the perfect opportunity to strike. If only he had a second "Fire Extinguishing Strike" at that moment, he could have taken down Zuo Dao and the others right then and there. However, such powerful weapons were rare even in ancient times, let alone in the current Great Celestial Domain.
The chance for victory slipped away. Although the airship had sustained damage, it remained intact thanks to Zhao Yanwu's reinforcement and Zuo Dao's subsequent repairs. It might look a bit unsightly, with its hull scorched and charred as if it had been engulfed in flames.
Zuo Dao adjusted the direction of the airship while increasing the energy input. With an unstoppable momentum, he continued to assault the enemy formation, ensuring that Zhao Yanwu replenished their lost formations.
To harness the "Fire Extinguishing Strike," at least one-third of the Execution Squad had gathered together. This concentration of power led to the first bloodshed since the conflict began.
Zuo Dao embodied violence in its most brutal form.
As blood and flesh rained down around him, splattering onto Xing, Zuo Dao piloted the airship like a streak of light through the center of his squad.
Blooms of blood erupted around the tip of the airship. In an instant, nearly a quarter of the Execution Squad was lost, with one-third rendered combat ineffective.
It was a devastating defeat.
Xing knew all too well what awaited him upon returning. His usual arrogance was finally tempered by a sense of calm.
The greatest loss this time was not in personnel but in the "Fire Extinguishing Strike." Under Zuo Dao's deliberate maneuvering, the primary target of the airship became that very weapon. Although Zuo Dao was unaware of how many such treasures their enemy possessed, he was determined to destroy at least one. With reckless abandon, he crashed into and destroyed a "Fire Extinguishing Strike."
"Those injured should rest and await support; everyone else follow me to take down our opponents. I don't need to elaborate on the consequences of this mission's failure," Xing commanded with a grim expression as he led the remnants in pursuit of Zuo Dao's disappearing figure.
Just as Zhao Yanwu and Chen Yang celebrated their escape, Zuo Dao casually remarked something that left them uneasy.
"Don't celebrate too soon; the Airship won't hold out for long. We should think about how to proceed next."
Indeed, this breakout came at a great cost. Both Zuo Dao and Xing made mistakes, but the difference lay in which side suffered greater losses.
The former sacrificed the outer part of the Airship to catch the opponent off guard while dodging the Fire Extinguishing Strike, and then further damaged the hull in an attempt to destroy the Fire Extinguishing Strike. If it weren't for the strong and solid formation provided by Zuo Dao, the Airship would have disintegrated long ago; it's a miracle that it has held together until now.
Xing's mistake was in misjudging Zuo Dao, but the main reason wasn't entirely his fault. The Dark Realm had prepared thoroughly for this mission; they were well aware of Zhao Yanwu and Chen Yang's backgrounds and strengths, aside from Zuo Dao being an unexpected variable. At most, the higher-ups of Dark Realm had concealed some details about Zhao Yanwu's identity, but that was irrelevant to the overall situation.
It was simply Zuo Dao's appearance that turned this assassination into an unknown factor.
From Border Town onward, the entire incident progressed in an unpredictable direction. The Teleportation Array in Firewind Town being shut down was yet another unexpected event.
Qingyuan couldn't openly clash with the people from Defense Headquarters, even if he was an Immortal King.
After returning to Dark Realm's secret base in Firewind Town, he quickly contacted his associates in Dark Realm.
"Third Elder, I want to know what exactly is going on with this mission. Why are we taking on tasks related to Dark Realm?" Qingyuan stood on a platform, addressing a figure on the other side of a Jade Gui.
The person on the other side seemed to be silent.
"Come on, Third Elder, what's really happening? Don't tell me you don't know about this."
Qingyuan didn't expect that even at this point, he wouldn't receive an explanation. As an elder of Dark Realm, he understood very well what kind of situation Dark Realm was currently in.
"Thirteen, I don't want to say much about this mission. Let's wait until you return for more details." A voice finally came from the Jade Gui, sounding weary and helpless.
"Could it really be them?" Qingyuan could hardly believe that the voice of the Third Elder had changed so drastically. The usually calm and carefree Third Elder seemed to have aged hundreds of years.
"Forget it, you handle this mission as you see fit," the Third Elder across from him seemed to have made a significant decision. "Even if it doesn't get completed, no one will blame you; the Execution Squad has already taken over."
"What? Tell me what exactly is going on!" Qingyuan nearly shouted at Jade Gui. However, it seemed that the connection had already been severed.
The suppressed anger finally erupted. A vast aura surged from within him, forming a storm circle centered around him, wreaking havoc throughout Firewind Town with overwhelming force.
Iron Yue had just settled in at the Defense Headquarters and was still reeling from the previous shock when he sensed a powerful force rising from somewhere in Firewind Town. Without time to think, he activated the defensive formation of Firewind Town in his last moment of clarity before losing consciousness.
Qingyuan's outburst was felt even by Zuo Dao in the distance.
"Celestial King Realm!" Zhao Yanwu's expression darkened; this was definitely not someone from the Dark Realm. Although she was unclear about their identity, she keenly sensed a mix of rage and murderous intent from their aura.
"Don't tell me that for your life, the Dark Realm has even sent a killer from the Celestial King Realm," Zuo Dao said nonchalantly.
"You can still joke at a time like this?" Zhao Yanwu replied helplessly, as if everything that came before Zuo Dao turned into trivial matters.
"What else can we do? If it really is a 'Qing' level killer from the Celestial King Realm, I wonder how much you're worth?" Zuo Dao looked Zhao Yanwu up and down. "I didn't realize you were a gold mine yourself!"
Before he finished speaking, Zuo Dao's expression suddenly changed. "Damn it, we need to go now; the Airship can't hold on any longer."
Without hesitation, he grabbed Zhao Yanwu and Chen Yang by one hand each and dashed out of the vessel. After a few leaps, they distanced themselves from where the Airship was located. Just as they stopped, there was a loud bang as the Airship disintegrated in an explosion.
"Alright, everyone stop looking at each other; let's go," Zuo Dao waved his hand and flew off in the direction of Fengming Town.
Zhao Yanwu stomped his foot in frustration as he followed Zuo Dao's retreating figure.
"Can I ask for one thing?" A weak voice came from behind them, belonging to Chen Yang, just as they hadn't flown far.
"Speak up, or let it out," Zhao Yanwu snapped, his pent-up anger evident in his tone as he turned to face Chen Yang.
"Actually, I have an Airship," Chen Yang said, his confidence wavering even more.
"What?" This was the best news Zuo Dao had heard in a while. He appeared before Chen Yang in a flash. "If you have something good, why aren't you bringing it out?"
"It's just that this Airship isn't as good as Zhao Xianzi's," Chen Yang said, feeling a bit embarrassed as he summoned the Airship.
Zuo Dao finally understood why Chen Yang looked so downcast. As the three of them squeezed into the vessel, Zuo Dao couldn't hold back any longer.
"Yoko, how did you end up in such a sorry state? Look at this ship; not only is it slow, but there's barely any room to turn around."
Chen Yang fell silent, his heart bleeding inside.
"Hurry up and fix it. Why are you dragging your feet?" Zhao Yanwu gave Zuo Dao a hard slap.
The sound of Zuo Dao's painful cry echoed inside the vessel.
