Li Niannian secretly scrutinized her boss in front of her. His piercing eyes glimmered with a hidden light, and beneath his high nose were sensual thin lips. His handsome face, devoid of smiles, radiated a cold demeanor, making him undeniably attractive in the eyes of women.
Though she was reluctant to admit it, the harsh reality forced her to nod in resignation.
Xu Yuandao watched her as she nodded vigorously, then muttered to herself with an odd expression, as if lost in deep thought.
"Did you even bring your brain to work? How could you make such a mistake?"
Xu Yuandao's voice rose slightly, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the documents. His long, elegant fingers effortlessly traced dreamy lines in the air, and Li Niannian had to concede that this man was indeed a solid ninety-five in looks.
"Do you not want to stay at this company?" His impatient fingers seemed to tease Clerk's heartstrings, as if asking: Are you feeling a little stirred?
"Yes!" Caught up in her fantasies, Li Niannian blurted out without thinking.
"What did you just say?!" How dare she retort? His palm slammed onto the desk with a loud bang that jolted her awake. "Hand in your resignation letter tomorrow!"
"Um... No, no, Manager, you've misunderstood. I was wrong; please give me another chance to redeem myself..."
What had she said that made the Manager shoot daggers at her with his eyes? Oh no… Tears welled up in Li Niannian's eyes as her body trembled with anxiety.
After dejectedly drifting out of the office, Xiao Xian raised an eyebrow at her. "Did you get the shot?" She was referring to whether Li Niannian had managed to sneak a photo of Xu Yuandao's impressive figure.
"No."
"What?! You fake Xu fan, I'm so disappointed in you!" Xiao Xian nearly screamed, heartbroken as she chastised her for being useless.
Was it really okay to hang out with this group of people? She suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to quit her job.
Li Niannian held her head in her hands, her face contorted in pain.
The damp rainy season had suddenly arrived, and Li Niannian walked home under her newly bought umbrella.
As she walked, she spotted a familiar figure standing in front of a vending machine up ahead.
What a coincidence! She had no choice but to greet him. Steeling herself, she forced a smile and said, "Manager, what a coincidence!"
Xu Yuandao merely glanced at her, acknowledging her greeting with a hint of indifference in his eyes.
What was he doing? Did he not have any change for a drink? Typically, important figures drank coffee; not drinking it seemed unacceptable.
Thinking that someone like him wouldn't carry loose change, as his wallet was likely filled with gold and silver cards, Li Niannian realized it was time for her to embody the spirit of a good employee once again.
She quickly fished out some coins and hurried to the vending machine, inserting them and retrieving a can of coffee to present to the Manager.
"Manager, enjoy!" she said with a bright smile, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"Did I say I wanted coffee?" he asked, furrowing his brow in confusion.
Li Niannian froze on the spot. Had she guessed wrong?! But Xu Yuandao didn't refuse her; he accepted the coffee and began to drink it.
"It's raining so heavily, let me take you back," Xu Yuandao said as he tossed the aluminum can into the recycling bin, his tone leaving no room for argument.
So, Manager, you do know how to show gratitude? You're such a good person, she felt so touched!
Then a small Clerk followed behind the Manager, grinning widely, her eyes squinting with joy.
As they reached the parking lot, a car splashed through a puddle in front of them, threatening to drench everything in its path. Li Niannian's eyes widened in an instant, her face displaying a brave and fearless expression as she boldly stepped in front of the Manager like a valiant warrior ready to sacrifice herself.
Everything happened so suddenly that even Xu Yuandao didn't expect Li Niannian to protect him like this. Her umbrella fell with a clatter behind her, and she was completely soaked.
Raindrops slid down her hair, and her clothes clung tightly to her body.
Yet she still foolishly smiled, revealing a set of pearly white teeth as she asked, "Manager, you didn't get splashed, did you?"
It seemed her sacrifice was worth it.
At such a moment, why was she even concerned about whether he got wet? What a silly girl; did she really need to get herself into trouble?
Xu Yuandao didn't know how to praise her. A warm feeling inexplicably surged within him, softening his usually cold smile. He couldn't help but reach out and pull her closer, creating a new space for her amidst the rain.
"You really are foolish," Xu Yuandao shook his head helplessly, but his gaze held a hint of affection.
