"You're not Victor. Where is the real Victor?"
Suddenly, dark clouds rolled over the base, and a bolt of lightning split the sky. The Tentacle crackled with purple and gold electricity, its broken and hoarse voice echoed, "Right here!"
Lightning danced through the clouds, striking low-flying enemy aircraft and turning them to charred remains. Tanks were hit and rendered useless, leaving no one daring to move. A perimeter of about a hundred meters formed around the massive Tentacle monster.
Blood flowed from Xia Yangyang's abdomen into Victor's palm; he felt her weakness as her arms trembled.
"It's okay, Yangyang. Don't be afraid; nothing will happen. I'll take you back to the ocean. With the Heart of the Ocean, I will save you. You will be fine!"
As rain began to fall, Victor instinctively leaned his body to shield her from it, still tightly holding Ian in his arms.
"Quickly tell me, where is the Heart of the Ocean?"
The Doctor twisted her neck, "A disobedient child has no right to make wishes. If I die, you'll never find the Heart of the Ocean."
She laughed bitterly, her gaze falling on the fragile figure in his arms. "Without the Heart of the Ocean, no one will survive."
Victor, the First Generation Mutated Tentacle Monster, had been cultivated for ten years as an SS-level dangerous creature; he was the Doctor's proudest scientific achievement.
Even though countless innocent soldiers had perished under his hands and two generations had died because of him, humanity would still honor her as a great explorer in biological genetics.
What she did not understand was that it was that fragile human he held so closely.
In the human perspective, the value of objects and personal interests outweigh everything else. If one can terminate a life within, how could there be any maternal love for a cluster of cells growing in a petri dish?
Is the emotional bond between humans and Specimen an isolated phenomenon within Specimen, or is it just 10086 and Victor?
Xia Yangyang tugged at Victor's hair, causing him to lower his head immediately. In his severed hand, she whispered softly, "The Heart of the Ocean is in her severed hand."
Without evidence, it could merely be the confusion of her mind as her life neared its end.
Yet Victor believed. The Tentacle moved swiftly and decisively, tearing off an entire arm from Doctor, whose scream pierced the sky. A bolt of lightning struck down precisely, silencing the cry as a dark mass fell to the ground, lifeless.
Victor held Xia Yangyang tightly as they rushed toward the sea, each step accompanied by the crackling sound of arcs of electricity.
With her left hand gripping the severed arm, Xia Yangyang fought back nausea and cut open the area as indicated by the system.
However, beneath the charred and burnt flesh, there was only a silver metallic empty gun, no sign of the Heart of the Ocean.
At the elbow of the mechanical prosthetic, there were clear bite marks that had punctured through the joint's empty casing.
The rising tide washed over Victor's waist. Suddenly, Xia Yangyang turned around to see the waves crashing onto the shore, engulfing that charred corpse.
"No way? It can't be?"
Holding Ian tightly, Xia Yangyang shouted with all her strength, "Victor, turn back! Don't go into the sea!"
However, it was already too late. In just a few seconds, the sea transformed from a jewel blue to an inky black. The ground trembled as massive deep-sea creatures crawled ashore, darkening the beach. On the shore, a charred figure swayed and stood up.
"How could you treat your mother like that, Victor?"
Victor furrowed his brow and slowly turned around, seemingly surprised by the woman's resilience; she had turned to ash yet still refused to die.
