Two blinding pink beams shot out from her empty eye sockets.
In that moment when the Tentacle snapped her arm, the woman bit through the flesh and deep metal of her arm, swallowing the Heart of the Ocean.
The Heart of the Ocean needed to be submerged in water to function, and the rising sea undoubtedly provided the perfect opportunity; no wonder even lightning couldn't kill her.
Thunderous footsteps approached from behind. Xia Yangyang stretched her neck to look, and what loomed was not a giant monster but the citizens of Atlantis. Each one had a vacant, lifeless gaze, wielding various weapons, including a few familiar-looking merfolk.
She immediately looked up at Victor, whose expression was blank as he took two steps back.
A few merfolk warriors charged forward, but he did not retaliate; instead, he dodged and seized the opportunity to ensnare them with his Tentacle and throw them back into the sea.
Amidst the chaos, Xia Yangyang's eyes were fixed on the Doctor, filled with dread.
The Heart of the Ocean caused her flesh to regrow, yet it felt as if something was burning her. This seemed to be a self-protection mechanism of the Heart of the Ocean.
Terrestrial beings cursed by it would rot away like molten lava.
The Doctor erupted in pink light, laughing uncontrollably: "So this is the power of the ocean! I am filled with endless strength; kneel and Apologize to your mother!" With those words spoken,
the ocean's citizens were stirred by the call of the Heart of the Ocean and suddenly launched an attack.
Victor had no choice but to raise an electric net. Xia Yangyang's gaze swept over the faces beyond the net; they were being scorched alive by powerful arcs of lightning.
Her eyes reddened, a wave of immense sorrow and anger swelling in her chest.
"Why? Why does the heavens allow such evil humans to seize power? Aren't these lives innocent? Even in war between two nations, envoys are not harmed, and when cities are breached, the slaughter of civilians is minimized. Yet she forces Victor into a corner like this."
If all the creatures in the ocean obeyed the Doctor's commands, they would be unable to return to the sea and could not remain on land; it was an unsolvable dilemma.
Xia Yangyang lowered her head into the gloom. "System, block pain. Buy me a pair of sprinting shoes. I need to dig out the Heart of the Ocean."
"You've lost your mind. Your body is completely ruined; you can't even run. Buying you shoes won't help." "I have my ways."
Victor felt a slight tug. He looked down to meet his lover's cautiously probing gaze.
"Victor, do you trust me?" she asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice.
Victor took her cold hand in his. "I trust you, no matter what you do."
Victor knew she was about to do something that would surprise him yet again.
His eyes reflected confusion and a touch of grievance as he looked back at her.
He had always been this way, stubbornly unrepentant. He loved her, hopelessly loving every version of her.
Whether it was a lie or the truth, from the moment she appeared at the base alone with Ian in her arms, he knew there was no turning back.
He heard his breathing grow heavier as he leaned down to kiss her pale lips, promising in the most sincere tone, "No matter what you do."
Xia Yangyang smiled.
The two nestled together amidst the raging storm.
Victor suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest, as if something had pierced his heart, the acute sting draining the color from his face.
He gasped, tightening his arms.
Xia Yangyang looked at him softly. "Ocean God, you know my love for you is love at first sight."
Before he could grasp the meaning of her words, he saw Xia Yangyang take the weapon—his gift to her, the Heart Protector—that was aimed at his heart and plunge it back into his flesh, along with the remnants of Ian's warmth.
Victor held Little Ian tightly, his pupils dilating as he instinctively reached for her hand that was gradually slipping away. "Yangyang."
