Jiang Chen found it a bit strange. It was one thing for Qian Xinyi to dislike him, but why was she so anxious sitting here?
“Is someone else going to sit here?” Jiang Chen asked Qian Xinyi.
“No one is,” Qian Xinyi replied quickly, her tone slightly flustered.
Just as Qian Xinyi finished speaking, a middle-aged man in a woolen trench coat approached. Xu Zhuzhu visibly jumped at the sight of him.
“Manager Du, what are you doing here?” Xu Zhuzhu exclaimed, utterly shocked. The man before her was Du Guanghua, the very reason she had come abroad for a break—to escape him. She never expected to run into him here, which left her bewildered.
“Oh, Miss Xu, what a coincidence! I came to the Island Nation for business and decided to ski and soak in hot springs in Hokkaido. I didn’t expect to see you here,” Du Guanghua said, feigning surprise.
However, Jiang Chen could see right through his act. Of course, it didn’t concern him, and he had no intention of probing further.
“What a coincidence indeed,” Xu Zhuzhu said, feeling somewhat at a loss. But calling it mere coincidence was impossible; she wasn’t foolish. She glanced at Qian Xinyi, who seemed a bit guilty.
Xu Zhuzhu quickly realized that her friend had likely been bought off by Du Guanghua. Her own path was clearly under Du Guanghua's control, making this encounter all too easy for him to orchestrate.
At this point, she had no words left. It seemed she could no longer avoid the situation; for her father and family, she had no choice but to compromise.
So Xu Zhuzhu decided not to expose anything and treated this encounter as just another coincidence.
“I never expected that Miss Xu and I would have such fate! I come to Hokkaido every year for vacation. I know the owner of this restaurant; let me treat you all to dinner. By the way, who are these two?” Du Guanghua asked, looking at Jiang Chen and Tengye Kikuko. His gaze turned particularly hostile when he noticed Jiang Chen. Since he was pursuing Xu Zhuzhu, seeing her with another man naturally made him wary.
Hearing Du Guanghua’s words, Qian Xinyi jumped in eagerly to explain, “Manager Du, we don’t know them at all. We were just bored in the car earlier; Zhu Zhu found out he’s Huaxia People and chatted with him casually. But Mr. Jiang might have misunderstood and thought Zhu Zhu liked him after talking for a bit. He insisted on joining us, and we couldn’t refuse, so it ended up like this.”
Qian Xinyi’s explanation was harsh; it was actually Xu Zhuzhu who had initiated the conversation with Jiang Chen and invited him over. Yet in her words, it became Jiang Chen who took the initiative.
“Manager Du, please don’t misunderstand; Qian Xinyi was joking. In fact, I invited Mr. Jiang to join us because we’re both Huaxia People—it’s quite a coincidence to meet here,” Xu Zhuzhu clarified.
Qian Xinyi discreetly pinched Xu Zhuzhu's arm; she was trying to help her friend since Xu Zhuzhu was already on Du Guanghua's radar. If Du Guanghua found out that Xu Zhuzhu had approached Jiang Chen first, he would surely be displeased.
As expected, upon hearing Xu Zhuzhu’s words, Du Guanghua’s expression darkened slightly as he cast an even more displeased look at Jiang Chen.
Initially, Jiang Chen thought Xu Zhuzhu was an interesting girl and agreed to have dinner with her simply because they were both Huaxia People. However, now that he found himself in this situation, he felt disinclined to get involved any further.
