Su Che smiled as he lightly tapped Xiao Tao on the head. After hearing Xiao Tao's words, he felt enlightened.
"You are right; let's enjoy today while we can. Tomorrow's worries can wait for tomorrow."
"I also know that one should seize the moment and not let the golden cup face the moon empty."
With a smile, Su Che returned to the Pharmacy with Xiao Tao. He had been staying there for the past few days, and after some contemplation at night, he finally made a decision. Life is but a few fleeting years; if one always lives for others, who will live for him? Besides, a few murmurs wouldn't cost him anything.
He hadn't asked Mu Junze yet; he couldn't decide anything for him. If he wasn't afraid of the storm, why should he fear getting drenched in the rain?
For these past few days, he had been residing in Dan Yao Hall, where Qu Qingxuan had arranged a separate room for him. The scent of herbs in Dan Yao Hall was refreshing and soothing. Had he not tasted it before, he wouldn't have known that herbal medicine could be so bitter when brewed. Yet here, he felt very at ease.
As Su Che gazed out the window at Qu Qingxuan's busy figure, memories flooded back. In his previous life, Qu Qingxuan was not merely an observer. However, Qu Qingxuan had also been imprisoned by Xu Mu under some pretext, and Dan Yao Hall had become difficult due to the Su Family's troubles.
He remembered all of this. Although he hadn't witnessed the suffering Qu Qingxuan endured in his previous life, he could imagine that under Xu Mu's control, Qu Qingxuan must have faced dire circumstances, especially given his close ties with the Su Family.
In this life, he would protect those he cared about with all his strength and would never allow them to suffer even a little harm again.
"I saw you weren't asleep yet, so I came to check on you," Qu Qingxuan said as he opened the door and found Su Che standing by the window.
"What's wrong? Is the Scientific Examination coming up soon? Are you nervous?"
"Not really, Uncle Qu. After the Scientific Examination, I would like to learn medicine from you. I hope you are still willing to teach me."
Qu Qingxuan was taken aback by Su Che's words. He had previously suggested that Su Che come to learn, but at that time, Su Che was entirely focused on Xu Mu and showed no interest in medicine. Over time, that suggestion faded into a mere joke.
Now that Su Che took the initiative to express his desire to learn, it genuinely surprised him. Su Che's motivation was not a fleeting whim; after experiencing being drugged by Xu Mu last time, he deeply understood that having more skills is never a burden. This time he had Mu Junze by his side.
But what if such a situation arose again in the future? What if someone poisoned his family? If he knew something about medicine, perhaps he could turn a dire situation around.

"What made you suddenly want to learn? You were completely unwilling when I suggested it before. Have you come to your senses or experienced something?"
Qu Qingxuan was unaware of Xu Mu's drugging incident; it was not something glorious that would be shared publicly. Even his parents only learned about it from Xu Mu himself but never spoke of it again.
One reason was the fear that someone with ill intentions might overhear and spread the news, but more importantly, it was the concern that Su Che might recall this unpleasant matter.
Su Che smiled as he explained, "People must grow. I'm not a child anymore, and the road ahead is long. There will always be times when I am alone; I can't rely on my parents and your protection for everything."
"Moreover, life is unpredictable. It's always better to have more skills at hand. In my younger days, I often caused worry for my elders due to my playful nature. Now, I need to learn to take care of myself."
Listening to Su Che's words, Qu Qingxuan fell silent for a moment. He had watched Su Che grow up and knew his character well. Since their last meeting, he felt that Su Che had changed; now he sensed that Su Che must have suffered some grievances somewhere. He understood all too well how painful sudden growth could be.
It was rare for well-protected children from ordinary families to mature so quickly at a young age. Qu Qingxuan observed this and chose not to say much more. There was no point in saying too much; Su Che was right—he had to walk his own path in the future. All he could do was offer his utmost affirmation and support.
"Alright, once the Scientific Examination is over, you can follow me. I'll have someone prepare a few books for you to look at first. If there's anything specific you want to learn, I will gladly share everything I know."
Su Che stood up to express his gratitude. "Thank you so much, Uncle Qu. However, there is one more thing I ask of you: I don't want anyone to know about my studies in medicine, so I hope it won't be too much trouble for you."
At this point, Qu Qingxuan understood and nodded. He instructed someone to fetch some basic medical texts before leaving.
"It's getting late; you should rest early. Though I don't know what you've been through, growing up isn't a bad thing. If you encounter any difficulties, feel free to speak up; this old body of Uncle Qu still has some use."
Su Che nodded. He knew that Qu Qingxuan must have learned something but chose not to ask further; instead, he reassured him that he was not alone.
This gesture moved him deeply. After seeing off Qu Qingxuan, Su Che began planning for the future and didn't sleep until late into the night.
Qu Qingxuan also stayed awake all night—not out of worry for Su Che but because Su Che's sudden desire to study medicine indicated there was something he needed help with. However, the little guy hadn't made it clear what that was, and Qu Qingxuan didn't want to pry too much into it. Learning medicine wasn't something that could be accomplished in a day; for now, he needed to teach him practical skills that could be learned relatively quickly.
He tossed and turned throughout the night, unsure of where to start teaching him, which kept him awake.
The next morning, Qu Qingxuan arrived at Su Che's door with dark circles under his eyes and a pile of books in his arms.
When Su Che opened the door and saw Qu Qingxuan looking so haggard, he couldn't help but be startled. "Uncle Qu! What happened? You look so worn out! Did you not sleep well last night? Is this... medical books?"
Before Su Che could process everything, Qu Qingxuan stepped inside and placed the books on the table. "Come sit down. Last night I thought long and hard about it and realized that treating illnesses may not be of great use to you. After much consideration, I've decided to teach you about identifying poisons and antidotes instead; this might be more beneficial for you. What do you think?"
Su Che looked at Qu Qingxuan, who appeared serious and haggard, and couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
"Very well, I was just thinking the same thing. I hadn't had the chance to discuss it with my uncle yet, so it's thoughtful of him to have considered it for me all night."
"I won't bother with polite words. I'll take a look at these books first; you should go back and rest," Qu Qingxuan replied, waving his hand.
"It's no trouble. You might not fully understand these books. If there's even a single mistake in your reasoning, it could be fatal. Given your abilities, I'm sure the Scientific Examination will be no problem for you, so I've decided to teach you some basics first."
"After the Scientific Examination, you won't need to come here anymore. I'll find you elsewhere. Nowadays, I don't have to handle everything in the Pharmacy myself; I still have some time to spare."
Understanding his nature, Su Che decided not to say more and began studying.
