Soon, the Scientific Examination arrived, and Su Che unexpectedly encountered Xu Mu in the examination hall. However, Xu Mu appeared confident, seemingly unaffected by the situation. It seemed he had great faith in this Scientific Examination, and Su Che understood this well.
As if sensing Su Che's gaze, Xu Mu turned to look at him, a glint of malice flashing in his eyes, with resentment openly displayed. At that moment, Fang Yitong noticed and followed Xu Mu's line of sight, teasingly saying, "Oh, an old flame! Why does Brother Xu still seem to be hung up on him?"
From his angle, Fang Yitong couldn't see Xu Mu's expression or eyes, so it was just a joke. Knowing Xu Mu as he did, he realized that Su Che had put him in quite a predicament. Xu Mu would certainly not let Su Che off easily. Hearing Fang Yitong's words, Xu Mu snorted coldly.
"Indeed, how can old feelings be so easily forgotten? He must repay me for his 'kindness.' One must be grateful for favors received; what do you think, Brother Fang?"
Picking up on the underlying meaning in Xu Mu's words, Fang Yitong chuckled. He enjoyed watching the drama unfold and naturally echoed Xu Mu's sentiment. His gaze towards Su Che held a hint of amusement and desire; he had heard Xu Mu vividly describe their intimate encounters. Perhaps it was Xu Mu's lively storytelling that ignited a strong impulse within him every time he saw Su Che—an urge to punish him on the spot. It was clear that Xu Mu intended to take revenge on Su Che.
When that time came, Fang Yitong was eager to experience it himself and see if it was truly as irresistible as Xu Mu had claimed. Of course, Xu Mu hadn't shared these details with just anyone; back then, Su Che was still under his influence. Such matters were best discussed in private after a few drinks.
At that time, Xu Mu mostly wanted to boast about his conquests but was aware that talking too much might attract unwanted attention towards Su Che. He didn't want Su Che to be seen as someone else's prize. Although he had considered group activities before and thought about slowly persuading Su Che or waiting until after high school when he would have more means to convince him.
Unexpectedly, things changed too quickly; now Su Che was with Mu Junze. At this moment, Xu Mu wished he could throw Su Che into a crowd and let everyone have their way with him.
"Brother Xu speaks wisely; however, you mustn't forget me when that time comes," Xu Mu already knew about Fang Yitong's interest in Su Che. In the past, he might have rejected such an idea but now readily agreed.
Previously, Fang Yitong would never have dared to be so blatant in front of Xu Mu; he understood that Xu Mu was petty and that offending someone like him for a fleeting pleasure wasn't worth it. So he had waited patiently until now.
Su Che sensed the intense gaze from Xu Mu and deliberately avoided eye contact, wearing an indifferent expression as if he didn't recognize him at all.
After the Scientific Examination concluded, Mu Junze had already prepared a carriage waiting outside. Upon seeing Mu Junze, a smile spread across Su Che's face.
As Su Che rushed towards Mu Junze, Xu Mu frowned slightly, feeling as though something that should have been his was snatched away by someone else. Yet when Su Che saw him, he didn't even spare him a glance. In the carriage, Mu Junze asked Su Che about the examination.
“How do you feel?”
Su Che smiled and raised his hand, making a gesture as if pinching something.
“Easy peasy. Unless something unexpected happens, I should be the top scholar.”
Mu Junze looked at his mischievous expression and smiled slightly, gently tapping his nose with his finger.
“You.”
“Why aren’t you participating in the Scientific Examination?”
Su Che casually asked, believing that Mu Junze’s talents were on par with his own. If he were to take the exam, the top scholar would surely be him. However, he hadn’t seen him take the martial arts exam either. Although he was a prince, Su Che was still a bit curious.
Mu Junze chuckled and replied,
“Well, someone has to leave a chance for others, right? If I participated too, wouldn’t they have to wait another three years?”
Su Che laughed at this remark; it made sense. Besides, being a prince meant he didn’t need to take the exam to add to his glory.
“What are your plans next?”
“Hmm… nothing much planned. But we might not be able to meet in the next few days; there are some matters I need to handle. As an apology, how about I treat you to a meal?”
The two of them playfully made their way to a tavern. Coincidentally, Xu Mu and Fang Yitong also arrived at the same tavern, but they didn’t run into each other and just missed each other by chance.
Inside the tavern, Xu Mu asked Fang Yitong,
“I haven’t had a chance to ask you—what brings you here? You look so relaxed; did you do well on the exam?”
Fang Yitong poured himself a drink and waved his hand dismissively.
“Oh, it’s just that my old man insisted I come and make an appearance. He said if I did well, he’d give me some of our family’s estate and shops. I know I won’t pass, but I can’t argue with them, so here I am.”
“Then you won’t get the estate after all?”
“Please! I’m the only heir in my family. Even if I don’t pass, once they’re gone, it’ll still be mine.”
“Forget that; did you hear that guy named Mu Zhe came to pick up Su Che today? I haven’t seen him before, but someone who can come up with such a plan and employ those people surely wouldn’t hire ordinary folks. They can just let it slip?”
Xu Mu was unconvinced. He thought Su Che merely wanted his parents to see what kind of person he really was. The Su Family had a hereditary weakness for compassion; they would never drive someone to their end. Moreover, that incident had already been a great humiliation for him—what more could Su Che want?
If Su Che wanted money or people, he would have made it clear to him early in the morning. He knew how important the Scientific Examination was to him, and since he was able to ensure that he could participate smoothly, it was enough to show that Su Che wouldn't turn against him again.
The grievances between them might have been settled in Su Che's eyes, not worth stirring up again. However, Fang Yitong felt it wasn't that simple.
Even if Su Che said to let it go, could Mu Zhe really let it go? At this moment, their feelings were at their peak; if his beloved was being bullied, he wouldn’t just let it slide either.
"He listens to Su Che. If Su Che says it's over, he won't do anything," Xu Mu said.
Fang Yitong shook his head at this, thinking Xu Mu was being too naive. "Even if it's settled on the surface, do you think he will really let it go behind the scenes? If it were you, would you just let it go? Or do you know Mu Zhe very well?"
With Fang Yitong's words, Xu Mu began to reconsider. He had to admit that Fang Yitong had a point. Mu Zhe didn’t seem like the kind of powerless coward; just because there was nothing on the surface didn’t mean he wouldn’t resort to underhanded tactics.
"It seems like brother Fang has some thoughts? Let’s not hide anything between us; let's talk," Fang Yitong said with a smile.
"You understand me well, Xiong. I think no matter what, we should take the initiative. I've sent someone to investigate in the past few days; this person named Mu Zhe is not simple," Xu Mu replied.
Hearing this, Xu Mu became interested. He had also noticed that Mu Zhe's demeanor, clothing, and mannerisms were not typical of someone from an ordinary family. However, he lacked connections and couldn’t find much information. He looked at Fang Yitong with a plan forming in his mind.
