Her eyes quickly scanned the documents until she found the property transfer papers. The date of the transfer was clearly recorded, marking the day after Li Jingzhang had said his brother needed to borrow money.
She didn't want to believe it, but the evidence was right in front of her, forcing her to confront the truth. The favoritism of her father-in-law and her husband's betrayal shattered her rationality.
“Li Jingzhang, you come back here right now!”
With trembling hands, she picked up her phone and shouted angrily into it.
Li Jingzhang rushed back, and upon seeing the property certificate in her hand, he was instantly dumbfounded.
“Wife, let me explain…” he said weakly.
“Explain what? How did this house become theirs?”
“Wife, I had no choice. My dad insisted that my brother and I swap houses…” Li Jingzhang stammered.
“Do you even remember how we got this house?” Her voice was calm, surprising even herself.
Li Jingzhang paused for a moment before nodding.
“So why do they get to swap houses?”
Li Jingzhang's lips moved, but he remained silent. His silence was the best answer for her.
She stood up, looking down at him from above. “I see through your family's scheme completely. I won’t give you another chance to manipulate me. I want a divorce.”
Turning on her heel, she walked toward the bedroom to pack her things. Her anger was boiling over; in a fit of rage, she grabbed a lamp and hurled it at their wedding photo with Li Jingzhang.
Crash!
The photo fell to the ground, the frame shattered, and half of Li Jingzhang's face in the picture looked distorted and eerie. She didn’t have time to care about that; all she wanted was to vent her frustration.
After a while, I finally regained my composure, slumping to the ground as I surveyed the mess around me. Silently, I opened the door and stepped outside.
Li Jingzhang had left at some point without me noticing. I picked up a broom and returned to my room, first sweeping the scattered shards of glass into a pile. Just then, I noticed something in the broken wedding photo.
Curiously, I picked it up to take a closer look. It was the marriage certificate!
I froze in shock. This was the marriage certificate of Li Jingzhang and me—how could it be here?
Wait!
Upon closer inspection, I saw that the bride's name was Wang Qin! The photo on it was of Sister-in-law.
I stood there, unable to believe my eyes, rubbing them vigorously before looking again.
No doubt about it—it was Wang Qin. But wasn’t she my older brother’s wife? How could she be married to Li Jingzhang? What on earth was going on?
I flipped to the first page of the marriage certificate to figure out what was happening.
In the next moment, it felt like lightning struck me, leaving me frozen in place!
Groom: Li Jingzhang!
Bride: Wang Qin!
Marriage date: six years ago!
Six years ago, Li Jingzhang and I weren’t even married yet! This meant that Li Jingzhang had been married before! And now he was on his second marriage!
I had been deceived for six whole years!
Everyone in the family knows, yet they all keep it from me. Even my Father-in-law, whom I have cared for so diligently, is hiding the truth from me!
"Jiahui! I've always regarded you as my own daughter!"
"Jiahui, I know you are the most filial. Ever since you married into our family, we have been one family. Thank you for taking care of me."
"Jiahui, don’t worry. If Jingzhang dares to bully you, I will kick him out. We can live together, and everything I have will be left to you."
Thinking back to what my Father-in-law said during his illness, it feels so ironic! It turns out it was all a lie. I was too naive; this so-called family is just a facade—I am an outsider! Ha!
My heart aches as if it has been sliced by a knife. Six years of love turned out to be nothing but a deception!
