The usually stoic bodyguard had a bun in his mouth at that moment. He slightly tilted his head, his long, thick eyelashes fluttering gently, revealing a hint of confusion in his eyes.
“How does it taste?” I asked with a bright smile, “Let’s eat together. You bought so many; I can’t finish them all by myself.”
Without waiting for his response, I took the red bean bun that was supposed to be mine from his hand and nimbly hopped onto the coffee table. Biting into the bun, the sweet red bean paste melted between my lips and teeth, lifting my spirits instantly.
I swung my legs playfully and nudged Long Qi with my elbow. “What filling are you having?”
He chewed slowly, his movements elegant and quiet.
“Brown sugar filling.”
“Wow, isn’t that the sweetest one?” I pretended to be angry, glaring at him dramatically as I stretched out my hand. “Give it back!”
The bright sunlight poured over him, making his black suit appear surprisingly warm. He calmly finished the last bite before leaning slightly forward and saying, “Sorry, Miss.”
The cold-faced bodyguard still wore a neutral expression, but there was a hint of amusement in his voice.
I whistled and half-sat on the coffee table, swinging my feet gently in the air. The shadows on the carpet flickered in and out, with Long Qi’s figure casting a slanted silhouette on the ground. Each time I lifted my legs, our shadows overlapped, forming a deeper outline together.
After finishing his food, he turned to leave. I was engrossed in watching our shadows when suddenly I lost focus and instinctively stretched my leg to reach out. My balance faltered, and I leaned forward clumsily like an awkward butterfly about to fall.
Fortunately, Long Qi reacted swiftly and caught me just in time. Everything happened so fast that I hadn’t even registered it before he securely held me up, adjusted me back into place, and gently set me down on the sofa—all in the blink of an eye.
I could feel the warmth he left on my lower back as I looked up at the tall figure blocking my view. He stood against the light, casting a shadow over me; at that moment, our shadows completely merged into one.
From a young age, those wealthy kids always kept their distance from me, but Long Qi was different. Time and again, he caught me and protected me. My Bodyguard. Having you by my side brings such a wonderful feeling.
Bored, I opened my iPad, wanting to design a unique little outfit for the baby soon to arrive. My design skills were average, but I had some talent in drawing. I initially planned to sketch a majestic Little Tiger surrounded by auspicious clouds, but it felt lacking in originality.
Suddenly, I recalled the flames I had glimpsed that night, and inspiration struck. I changed the design to a Little Tiger running on flames, and instantly felt refreshed.
When I first arrived at this mansion, I felt trapped in a gilded cage. But now, with Long Qi by my side, I could bask in the sun every day, work on my designs, and imagine enjoying chilled watermelon by the pool when summer arrives. Life suddenly became beautiful, and my heart brimmed with anticipation for the future.
The aunt who took care of me was a kind-hearted middle-aged woman with graying hair. Her cooking was excellent, unlike those fancy dishes from high-end restaurants that looked exquisite but left you hungry. I watched as she used a pressure cooker to make Pork Rib Soup, first quickly stir-frying the ribs at high heat before neatly arranging them at the bottom of the pot and sprinkling a layer of carefully prepared spices.
