Just as I was about to get up and go to bed, Hu Fang came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of something. "You were inside for a while, so I thought you might be hungry. I made you a bowl of noodles; eat it while it's hot," she said carefully placing the bowl in front of me.
"Thank you! You've worked hard too; get some rest," I said as I looked at Hu Fang. She smiled slightly at my gratitude and replied, "What are you thanking me for? It's no big deal. Alright then, I'm going to sleep now. You should eat and get some rest too." With that, she turned and went back to her room.
Looking at the steaming bowl of egg noodles on the table, I realized I was indeed a bit hungry. I finished the noodles in just a few bites and soon felt a wave of drowsiness wash over me. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep on the sofa.
The next morning, I groggily opened my eyes and saw Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng bustling around getting ready to leave. Curiously, I asked, "Where are you two going?"
While putting on her shoes, Hu Fang replied, "I just got a call; I need to help with some sketches. I'm going back to get some things."
Li Zhisheng added, "I've gotten used to living with you guys recently. The thought of going back alone feels a bit strange. So I'm just going to move some things over here and stay with you." Before leaving, he added, "By the way, I'm not staying for free; I'll cover half of the rent and utilities." With that, they hurried out the door.
At this point, my sleepiness had vanished completely, so I got up from the sofa. Rubbing my sore wounds, I plopped down in front of my computer. Just as I turned it on, my phone rang urgently. Grabbing the phone from the table, I was surprised to see it was an old business partner calling.
I quickly answered the phone. "Hello? Lao Liu, what made you think of calling me?"
On the other end of the line was Liu Zhong. "It's been a while since we last contacted each other; I wanted to see how you've been."
I chuckled lightly and said, "Lao Liu, this isn't like you; you're looking for something from me, aren't you?" Liu Zhong laughed in response. "You know me too well! Since you've guessed it already, I'll be honest—I do need your help with something."
"What is it? Just tell me straight," I replied.
"You remember our old business together? Well, I've been busy while you've been resting. Recently I've landed a couple of big contracts that require on-site inspection and signatures. Since you're still listed as the legal representative of the company, I'm afraid I'll have to trouble you to make a trip."
"That's no problem at all! But have you prepared everything else?" I asked.
Liu Zhong assured me, "Don't worry about that; everything is ready for you. We'll set off tomorrow."
"Alright then; give me a call tomorrow," I said before hanging up.
Sitting in front of my computer feeling bored, I started watching a movie when suddenly the doorbell rang. Rushing over to check the surveillance monitor at the door, I saw Li Zhisheng standing outside with several large boxes in his arms.
I shouted through the intercom, "Hold on! I'll come down to get you." Quickly putting on my shoes, I headed downstairs. As soon as I opened the door, I saw Li Zhisheng holding two boxes while three more were on the ground beside him.
I teased him saying, "You said you were just moving some things? This looks more like you're moving house!"
He was drenched in sweat, panting heavily, "Just... hold on, help me move this upstairs... then!" "Wow, what do you have in here, corpses?! It's so heavy." I followed him, carrying a box. Li Zhisheng ignored me and continued to carry his box into the elevator.
As soon as we entered the house, I lost my grip, and three boxes fell to the ground with a loud thud. I propped myself against a box and said, "My friend, this box must weigh at least a hundred pounds. With the two you're carrying, that's nearly two hundred pounds. I'm not even asking what's inside; I'm just curious how you managed to get all this by yourself."
Li Zhisheng casually dropped his boxes on the floor. "These two boxes are filled with clothes and daily necessities. The three boxes you're carrying are all books. I hired two farmers and paid them a hundred bucks to help me move."
I gave him a thumbs up. "Good thing you found two; if you had tried to do it alone, even if you offered two hundred, they might not have helped you." I shook my sore arms and sat down in front of the computer to continue watching a movie while Li Zhisheng moved the boxes into the room and started organizing them.
After a while, noticing it was almost lunchtime, I called out to Li Zhisheng inside, "Hey—hey, big intellectual! What are we eating? Are we going out or staying in?"
Li Zhisheng poked his head out from the room and said, "I don't know. You see, Hu Fang hasn't come back yet. Why don't you give her a call and ask for her opinion?" I quickly interrupted him, "No, no! If you ask her, she'll definitely want to go out to eat. So let's just decide ourselves."
"If that's how it is, then we have no choice. Just think about it: if we go out to eat, even if we order first, won't she change the order when she arrives?" Hearing this made me realize, "Right! You make a good point." With that, I got up to go buy groceries. Li Zhisheng shrugged and went back to organizing his books.
As I put on my shoes and opened the door, I found Hu Fang standing at the entrance, pulling out her keys to unlock the door. Seeing me about to go out, she asked curiously, "Are you going out for something?" Afraid she would find out there was no food at home, I quickly made up an excuse: "Uh, I'm just feeling bored at home and thought I'd take a walk."
Hu Fang lifted a bag in front of me. "I've already bought lunch. Aren't you going to eat before going out?" Seeing food in front of me made me quickly invite her in. "I suddenly feel less bored now; come on in for lunch." Hu Fang looked at me with confusion.
After lunch, Hu Fang said, "I might be busy lately and won't be able to accompany you with those supernatural things anymore. This manuscript is urgent; I need to finish it quickly."
Hearing this reminded me of what Liu Zhong had told me that morning. I said to them both, "Perfect timing! I'm also going out tomorrow for some errands; I'll need both of you to help watch the house."
"So you both have things to do while I'm left here doing nothing?" I comforted Li Zhisheng: "Didn't you just move in with all those books? You should study them well; you'll need to help me figure out how to lift this curse off me."
He nodded after hearing that. "Yeah, guess that's all I can do since I don't have much else going on lately." "You two chat slowly; I've got to get back to my manuscript," Hu Fang said as she took her drawing board and notebook back into her room.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng seemed to remember something and said to me, "By the way, I just found a book that has some information about your Cursed Realm from yesterday."
"Oh? What does it say?" I asked curiously. "The book states that Cursed Realms need to be attached to specific objects like mirrors or water. If someone was extremely evil during their life, they would generate powerful resentment right before dying. If they saw reflective objects like water or mirrors at that moment, a Cursed Realm would form within them."
"And opening a Cursed Realm only requires words related to that deceased person—like their name or incantations... then one can enter the corresponding Cursed Realm created by that person. These places are usually extremely dangerous because the Evil Spirit that created the Cursed Realm can almost control everything inside."
Hearing this, I interjected, "But it can't control the living, right?" Li Zhisheng nodded, "That's correct. However, as far as I know, almost everyone who enters the Cursed Realm does so in a state of their soul, or even as a ghost. So those who enter are essentially already dead; you just seem to be an exception."
"I know I'm an exception. If I had known how dangerous it was in there, I wouldn't have gone in at all," I replied. Li Zhisheng chuckled, "Well, there's no other way. If we don't do this, how can we suppress the mark on your hand? Besides, we don't even know the exact boundaries of that mark yet, so we can only keep it suppressed as much as possible."
"That's true, but if I have to keep taking such risks, I might die before the mark even fully develops."
After that, we chatted about various topics until it got dark and had dinner together. The three of us took a stroll down the street for a while before heading home to rest.
Lying in bed, I flipped through the booklet about the Void Spirit. I realized that the moment the Void Spirit awakened was actually different from a normal Underworld Gate. It was merely due to the sudden surge of the Void Spirit's immense power that caused chaos in the surrounding space, temporarily tearing apart reality and creating a brief Underworld Gate where only itself and the Void Spirit existed.
I had initially thought I could use this time-stopping ability for some get-rich-quick schemes, but seeing this left me somewhat disappointed.
Noticing that it was getting late and thinking about having to wake up early tomorrow, I set aside the booklet and fell asleep.
