Seeing me frozen by the door, Li Zhisheng asked, "What's wrong? What happened?" Just as I was about to respond, the blood-soaked old woman at the doorway trembled and said, "Quick—get out of here..."
"Who are you?!" I retreated two steps cautiously. Just as I moved away from the door, it was suddenly pushed open.
"Ah!" Hu Fang screamed in shock at the sudden turn of events.
The old woman at the door made no aggressive moves; she simply inched her way inside. In the light, I saw a large gash on her forehead, blood streaming down from the wound.
"Don't ask questions, just run!" she shouted with all her strength.
I didn't respond; I only tightened my nerves and slowly backed up to the bedside, grabbing my backpack and holding onto Jiang Ling inside, ready for whatever might happen next.
Li Zhisheng seemed to sense something amiss. He asked, "Are you Wang Shu?"
She nodded and looked at Hu Fang, who was curled up on the bed. "Young lady, I remember you..." She showed her arm's injury to Hu Fang. "Do you remember me?"
"You really are..." Hu Fang stepped down from the bed and approached the old woman on the floor. I wanted to reach out to stop her, but before my hand could touch Hu Fang, a cold glint flashed outside the door. A dark green sword shot through the air and landed right by Hu Fang's feet, startling her back several steps nearly causing her to fall.
"Long time no see, Shen Xu!" A familiar yet strange male voice called from outside.
"It really is you; come out, Gu Kai!" By this time, I had drawn Jiang Ling and tightly gripped the talisman given to me by Death Apostle in my palm. I signaled Li Zhisheng with a glance to take Hu Fang aside.
Li Zhisheng understood and stepped forward to pull Hu Fang back.
Hearing this, the man outside clapped his hands and stepped out of the shadows. "Since you know it's me, do you know why I've come here looking for you?"
He waved his hand toward the sword embedded in the ground; it shook a few times before rising into the air and flying into his hand.
"Are you here to find me? No, you must be looking for Li Zhisheng!"
As soon as the words left her mouth, the old woman on the ground pulled something out from her bosom. She gripped it tightly in her hand and began to chant a spell, causing the object to emit a blinding white light.
Gu Kai looked at her with disdain. "Hmph, an ant!" With that, he swung his sword downwards.
I cursed under my breath, raising my sword to confront him. To my surprise, the old woman threw the object in her hand. It struck Gu Kai's raised sword with a loud clang, and immediately, his sword was enveloped in dazzling white light.
"Ridiculous!" Gu Kai waved his hand forcefully in the air, and the white light around his sword vanished in an instant.
"What are you all standing there for?! Run!" the old woman shouted hoarsely.
At that moment, I desperately wished to lure out the Void Spirit and fight Gu Kai to the death. Unfortunately, with the Void Spirit sealed away, I could only stomp my feet in frustration.
Just then, Gu Kai seemed to sense my thoughts. "Get up. I should thank you for allowing me to eliminate this hidden threat. If it weren't for you informing me of this news, perhaps Brother Li would have already been freed from Soul Burial by now."
With that, he raised his sword again, intending to strike down at the old woman. My heart tightened as I thought, "If this person is truly Wang Shu, if she dies, won't Li Zhisheng be doomed?" With that thought in mind, I prepared to use my body to shield the old woman from his blow.
However, just as I took a step forward, a figure flashed past me and lunged at the old woman. Gu Kai's sword fell...
"Li Zhisheng!" Hu Fang shouted. I saw that Li Zhisheng's chest had already been pierced by the sword. He looked down at the blade protruding from his chest with a hint of terror before spitting out a mouthful of blood.
"Ah, you won't die yet! What are you doing here making a fuss? Get lost!" Gu Kai continued to stab Li Zhisheng several more times before kicking him aside.
Watching this scene unfold filled me with rage. "You brat! Your grandfather is right here!" I shouted as I charged at Gu Kai with my sword raised.
But just as I got close, he lifted his left hand and lightly flicked my forehead. In an instant, I was sent flying backward. Fortunately, there was a quilt behind me to cushion my fall; otherwise, I would have surely broken bones from that impact.
"Don't rush to die; it's not your turn yet!" Gu Kai said, kicking the old woman out the door. She let out a muffled groan as she flew outside, leaving her fate uncertain.
I had been struck hard and felt my vision darken, nearly losing consciousness. I forced myself to stand up, shaking my head vigorously to clear my mind.
I watched as Gu Kai walked straight towards Li Zhisheng, who lay in a pool of blood, mocking him as he approached. "No way, is he dead already? I thought he couldn't die so easily."
"Whatever you want to do, come at me! Don't touch my friend!" I shouted angrily from the side.
Gu Kai didn't even look back; he coldly replied, "You? Save your breath."
Seeing him getting closer to Li Zhisheng, I couldn't hold back any longer and charged at him again. This time, he didn't even need to touch me; just a wave of his hand sent me flying once more. I crashed against the wall with a loud thud.
This time, I lacked the strength to get up and could only sit on the ground, helplessly watching him approach Li Zhisheng step by step.
Hu Fang was already terrified and didn't know what to do. She kept grabbing things around her and throwing them at Gu Kai, but he ignored her completely. When he reached Li Zhisheng, he crouched down and placed his hand on him, murmuring something under his breath.
Suddenly, Li Zhisheng sprang up from the ground. He stood in front of Gu Kai and kicked him squarely in the head before Gu Kai could react.
The kick was powerful enough to send Gu Kai crashing out of the house, creating a large hole in the thick earthen wall.
Li Zhisheng spat out a mouthful of blood and turned to me. "While I'm still sane, take Hu Fang and run!" With that, he chased after Gu Kai.
At this point, my legs felt weak from the impact, and I couldn't stand up. Seeing this, Hu Fang hurried over to help me up, wiping away her terrified tears as she asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine; it's just Li Zhisheng..." I coughed violently a couple of times. "Quickly, let's go see what's happening..."
With Hu Fang supporting me, we stepped outside and saw Li Zhisheng facing off against Gu Kai in the courtyard. Gu Kai smiled mockingly. "So this is the famed Soul Burial of the Li family; truly impressive."
Li Zhisheng seemed to be on the verge of losing his sanity. In the darkness, his eyes glowed with a blood-red light, resembling an Evil Spirit. Without a word, he suddenly exerted himself and charged towards Gu Kai at an incredible speed.
Before Gu Kai could react, Li Zhisheng was already upon him, delivering a heavy punch that struck Gu Kai's chin and sent him flying into the air.
However, this blow seemed to inflict no damage on Gu Kai. He quickly regained his balance in mid-air and retaliated with a sword strike aimed at the approaching Li Zhisheng.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng had no weapon in hand and was left with no way to evade. Just as the sword's edge was about to reach his face, Li Zhisheng unexpectedly extended a hand and firmly grasped Gu Kai's sword. Simultaneously, he delivered another powerful punch to Gu Kai's face.
"It looks like Li Zhisheng has a chance!" I muttered to myself. Hu Fang cheered from the side, "Kill him! Kill that bastard!"
Although Li Zhisheng had the upper hand at this moment, for some reason, I felt that Gu Kai was merely testing Li Zhisheng, deliberately remaining in a passive state.
"Hu Fang, don't worry about me; go check on that old lady..." I said, pointing to the elderly woman lying in the yard.
Hu Fang nodded and hurried over to the old lady's side, bending down to check her breath. After a moment, she turned to me and said, "She's not dead yet!"
Since I couldn't move easily at the moment, I had no choice but to let Hu Fang go inside to find some first aid supplies for the old lady.
As she tended to the old lady's wounds, she called out, "Wang Po, wake up..."
I thought to myself, "No matter who wins between Gu Kai and Li Zhisheng, it will spell disaster for us. What should I do?" As I pondered this, I continued to stomp my feet in frustration.
Just then, a dark green light flashed across the sky. I looked up to see Li Zhisheng standing on the rooftop, hunched over and showing signs of fatigue.
In contrast, Gu Kai showed no signs of weariness as he leaped onto the roof and began to close in on Li Zhisheng step by step.
Suddenly, Gu Kai assumed an attacking stance and rushed towards Li Zhisheng. Seeing this, Li Zhisheng jumped high into the air and raised both hands above his head. In an instant, a massive Black Sphere began to take shape in his hands.
“Is Li Zhisheng trying to kill Gu Kai with this strike?!” As this thought crossed my mind, I saw the Black Sphere growing larger, now several times the size of Li Zhisheng's body.
But Gu Kai showed no intention of defending himself. Standing in the moonlight, he waved at me, saying, “Alright, I’ll play until here. The rest is up to you~ Goodbye, Void God~”
With that, Gu Kai transformed into a swirl of green smoke and vanished into the air.
My heart tightened. “Could it be that his goal was to lure me into fighting Soul Burial?! And this Black Sphere... I can feel it’s exactly like the one I used before, only this strike is dozens of times more powerful. Not just me, but the entire village could be obliterated by this attack.”
I desperately tried to rush forward to stop it, but as soon as I left the wall, my legs went weak and I collapsed to the ground. The enormous Black Sphere above Li Zhisheng had completely blocked out the moon, casting white moonlight around it like a lunar eclipse.
Suddenly, Li Zhisheng swung his hands down forcefully, and the Black Sphere began to descend slowly. In that critical moment, a familiar voice echoed in my mind, calmly stating, “Your power comes from Hatred…”
