Death Apostle finished speaking, and everyone fell into silence. I understood that not only were we struggling to contend with a powerful Sun Warrior Organization, but we had barely survived an encounter with a Cursed Realm. If we were to face the organization behind Death Apostle, it would be a matter of life and death.
At that moment, Death Apostle seemed to realize he had gone too far and spoke to me in a calmer tone: "Actually, it's not entirely impossible to fight back. After witnessing the power of your Void Spirit going berserk and your friend’s Soul Burial, I feel that your strength is even greater than Yao Long. It's just that his combat experience is more extensive than yours, which might allow him to contend with you..."
"Are you saying that with our current strength, we can confront Yang Master's organization?" I asked.
"Perhaps so. From what I know, while everyone in Yang Master possesses a Void Spirit, not everyone is born with it. The power of a naturally born Void Spirit is vastly different from one that has been implanted later. Most of them should not be born with it. Among the lower ranks of the organization, only Yao Long has a naturally born Void Spirit. Even those above me do not possess one by birth, but beyond that, I cannot say..." Death Apostle appeared somewhat uneasy.
"Although I can surpass Soul Burial using the power of Hatred, without it, I might not even match up to Yao Long. Now that I've exhausted my energy, I cannot use the power of Hatred again... But don't worry, I will do everything in my power to protect you." As soon as the words left my mouth, I felt a twinge of uncertainty myself.
Death Apostle turned away, smiling bitterly: "I deceived you, and yet you still treat me this way. I am very grateful. It’s just that I..." He choked on his words halfway through.
Li Zhisheng interjected: "Since we've opened up this conversation, we now clearly understand who the real enemy is. And since you know about Yang Master, having you around can help us strategize instead of guessing blindly. Even if you were to leave us, the people in the organization would still want to kill Shen Xu, so you don’t need to take all the responsibility upon yourself."
Seeing that Li Zhisheng made a valid point, Death Apostle nodded in agreement. Then he said, "By the way, there are still some supplies at my place. Let me check when I get back. Since I've severed ties with the organization now, I can't get any support; even the basement where I'm staying was arranged by them. I might need your help to go there." After hearing this, I nodded in agreement.
Afterward, Yao Long, Death Apostle, and Li Zhisheng stayed in the hospital for over a month. Meanwhile, Meng Zhuang, Hu Fang, and I ran around and endured hardships for more than two months.
During this time, nothing unusual occurred except for one incident where Yao Long fell out of bed while sleeping restlessly, causing his injuries to delay recovery. Fortunately, it wasn't severe; after staying a bit longer, he recovered.
Upon discharge from the hospital, I completed the procedures alone and had Li Zhisheng buy return tickets before we all set off for home.
As soon as we got off the plane and realizing it was still early in the day, I asked Death Apostle: "Should we go to your place first to pick up your things or head straight to my house?"
After thinking for a moment, Death Apostle replied: "How about this? You and Yao Long accompany me to get my things; the others don’t need to come along. After all, too many people might attract attention since that place belongs to the organization."
With that decision made, I told Hu Fang, Li Zhisheng, and Meng Zhuang to head back while I followed Death Apostle to his previous residence at the villa.
Standing at the entrance of the basement, Death Apostle looked around: "Strange, where's the Ghost Oil? It was definitely here when I left..."
At that moment, Yao Long alertly drew out the Azure Spirit from behind him. "Something's not right; someone has been here. Look!" He pointed towards the corner of the wall.
I followed his finger and saw a small green leaf in the corner, looking fresh as if it had just fallen recently.
"The leaf is still fresh, which means someone has been here recently. Besides, this room has no windows; it couldn't have blown in. It must have been brought in by someone," I said, stepping back cautiously, my eyes fixed on the doorway.
Meanwhile, Death Apostle walked over calmly and picked up the leaf. "Come out; I know it's you."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a creaking sound, and a wooden door from another room swung open. A figure dressed in a Black Long Robe stepped out. He had an old-fashioned slicked-back hairstyle, seemingly coated with a lot of hair gel, which made him look rather uncomfortable. From a distance, he had a shifty expression and sported a patch of stubble on his chin.
"Old Friend, long time no see! How have you been?" The man smiled as he approached Death Apostle.
Death Apostle leaned closer to me and whispered, "He's the one who wants to kill me." I nodded in acknowledgment and instinctively positioned myself behind Death Apostle.
Yao Long stepped aside, drawing his bow and taking a step forward to block my path, aiming at the approaching figure. "What are you doing here?!"
The man raised his hands to his chest in a gesture of peace. "Dragon, you're still the same—so quick to kill. We used to be colleagues; can't we avoid this tense situation?"
Yao Long spat on the ground. "Who were ever colleagues? Stop flattering yourself. Now tell me why you're here, or don't blame me for being rude." It was clear from Yao Long's words that both he and Death Apostle held deep grudges against this man.
"Rude?" The man scoffed. "I think you might be mistaken; with my current abilities, what can you do to me?" As he spoke, he lifted his Long Robe to reveal a staff hanging at his waist. I was taken aback to see three dragon carvings on that staff.
At that moment, Death Apostle gently pushed me aside and walked forward on his own. "Mr. Death, you..." Yao Long tried to stop him but was halted by Death Apostle raising his hand. "As far as I know, not everyone in the organization's management is powerful; what does it matter if they've been promoted?"
The man felt insulted by being looked down upon and grew irritated. "Oh?! Is that so?" Suddenly, he clenched his fists, veins bulging on his forehead. In an instant, red flames erupted from his left hand while greenish-blue flames appeared in his right.
"What...?" Seeing this, Death Apostle was taken aback and retreated several steps.
"What’s going on?" I stepped forward to support the Death Apostle and asked.
At that moment, Yao Long had already gathered three bright red arrows on his bow, ready to shoot at any moment. Hearing my question, he spoke in a low, serious voice, "He has two Void Spirits on him right now!"
Upon hearing this, I felt a chill run down my spine. "What? Two Void Spirits? How is that possible?!"
Seeing our astonishment, the man looked smugly at the two differently colored flames in his hands. "There's nothing to be surprised about; this is just a reward from the organization. By the way, I'm the first person in the organization to possess two Void Spirits."
Yao Long was starting to lose his patience. He relaxed his grip on the bowstring, and the three blood-red arrows were enveloped in blue flames as they flew toward the man.
However, he showed no intention of dodging. Just as the arrows were about to reach him, he suddenly waved his left hand. The moment the red flames erupting from his hand met the arrows, they were instantly evaporated.
"I'm not here to fight; I'm here to warn you, Death Apostle!" He pointed at the Death Apostle with his finger wreathed in green flames. "Don't think that what happened at the hospital was a mistake. I just wanted to give you a warning to help you find your way back. If you remain stubborn, don’t blame me for being merciless. You should know that killing you is as easy as squashing a bug for me."
The Death Apostle smirked and replied coldly, "You came all this way just for that? Then I regret to inform you that I won't change my mind. If you want to kill me, feel free to do it now."
"Kill you now? I'm not that foolish; killing someone in broad daylight is a death sentence... I want you to die an unexpected death!" The man revealed a chilling smile before turning and leaving.
Yao Long immediately wanted to chase after him but was stopped by the Death Apostle. Frustrated, Yao Long exclaimed, "Why won’t you let me pursue him?" The Death Apostle shook his head. "It’s not about whether you can defeat him right now; even if we catch him now, what good would it do?"
At that moment, an idea struck me. "Why don't we turn this situation to our advantage?"
The Death Apostle looked puzzled. "Turn it to our advantage?"
I nodded. "Exactly. Since we don’t know what this so-called Sun Warrior Organization wants to do, why not use this person as a lead and follow it through to uncover their ultimate goal?"
"Details," Yao Long pressed for more information.
"My plan is as follows: since they already know you are alive and are unwilling to return to the organization, they will inevitably send someone to assassinate you again. We will take this opportunity to fake your death and then see what actions they will take."
After listening, Yao Long thought for a moment. "So you intend to adapt to their plans and wait for an opportunity to counterattack?"
"Exactly. Right now, they know us inside out, while we know very little about them. This is the only way to uncover the truth. Moreover, based on the mark on Death Apostle's hand, I suspect they might possess the Third Box, and the method of implanting the Void Spirit could also be related to this Box."
"Look at this..." I said, handing over the photo I received at the hospital to Death Apostle and Yao Long.
Death Apostle took the photo and examined the Box in the image closely. After a while, he couldn't discern anything. "Honestly, I've never seen what a real Box looks like, so..."
Seeing his confusion, I added, "There's some writing on the back."
Upon hearing this, Death Apostle flipped the photo over. The moment he saw the words, he paused for a moment before reading aloud: "To Obtain the Box, First Break the Tomb, Then Unseal the Mark."
"This handwriting... it seems somewhat familiar," Death Apostle said, falling into deep thought.
