Li Zhisheng furrowed his brows tightly, a hint of worry etched on his face. With a concerned expression, he continued, "Since Yang Master and the others have brought the Ox-Head from the Underworld, I'm afraid there might be even more terrifying monsters lurking below."
I sighed and replied, "Aren't you aware of that yourself? We have no choice left; even if it's hell down there, we have to venture in."
"It's not as terrifying as you think. I've been downstairs; it’s not as bad as you imagine. It seems like there are only some management personnel down there." Hearing Hu Fang's words, Li Zhisheng hesitated.
I looked at his bleeding left hand and took off my jacket to wrap it around his wound, helping to staunch the bleeding. "No matter what awaits us below, we need to check it out first. Staying here isn’t a solution, and we don’t know when that Minotaur might go berserk and break in."
"Then we have no choice..." Li Zhisheng gritted his teeth against the pain as I finished bandaging his wound.
At that moment, Hu Fang looked at her hands. "Then I’ll go with you. I have the ability now; I won’t hold you back anymore..." She gazed at me with hopeful eyes, waiting for my response.
"Even if you didn’t have any abilities, we would still have to take you with us because staying here is no longer safe..." With that, I walked to the door and slowly opened it, peering outside.
At that moment, at the other end of the corridor, the Minotaur was engaged in a fierce battle with those Walking Dead. Blood and flesh were scattered across the ground. The Minotaur had one of them in each hand, squeezing their bodies relentlessly, blood flowing down its arms as its black skin became stained bright red.
The Walking Dead were enveloped by numerous Soul Threads sprouting from their bodies, wrapping around the Minotaur completely. Yet they couldn’t harm it in the slightest or even hinder its movements.
Seeing this made me sigh inwardly. "This Ox-Head is truly formidable; even the Soul Threads that Void Spirits fear seem ineffective against this monster. How did Yang Master and his group manage to bring this creature from the Underworld into the mortal realm..."
With these thoughts swirling in my mind, I turned to Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng. "The Ox-Head is currently fighting those Undead; let’s take this opportunity to leave." Upon hearing this, Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang nodded in agreement.
Then the three of us cautiously stepped out of the room and made our way to the door where Hu Fang had indicated. Standing at the entrance, I grasped the doorknob and turned back to confirm with Hu Fang once more: "Are you sure this is the right place? Nothing else will jump out at us from inside?"
Hu Fang nodded confidently. "Don’t worry; it’s safe. I swear..." With that, she raised her finger.
"You swear? Can you see anything here..." Li Zhisheng teased Hu Fang.
Hearing this, Li Zhisheng immediately changed his tone, "Well, I swear by the lamp..." Before he could finish, a severed limb suddenly flew in from a distance and with a loud "crack," shattered the light bulb above us.
The shards of glass rained down from above, and both Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang quickly stepped back to avoid it. I pressed myself against the doorframe and looked up at the broken light, "What are you planning to swear on now..."
To my surprise, in such a tense situation, I exchanged a smile with Li Zhisheng. "What time is it? You still have the energy to joke around? Hurry up and open the door; I'm really not lying to you," Hu Fang urged anxiously.
After hearing this, I grabbed the doorknob again and turned it gently. With a click, the metal door swung open. At that moment, I realized that what lay beyond was not a room at all; instead, it was a staircase leading downward.
"You see? I wasn't lying to you..." Hu Fang said. Li Zhisheng chimed in, "It's not that we don't believe you; we were just joking around to lighten the mood."
Hu Fang shot him a glance, "Joking at a time like this? No wonder you lost your hand..."
I found it strange that Li Zhisheng, who usually was so cautious, would choose this moment to make jokes. Just as I was pondering this, Hu Fang walked past me and descended the stairs first.
I glanced at Li Zhisheng and followed Hu Fang down the stairs, with Li Zhisheng trailing behind me. "Why do I feel like you're acting a bit unusual? What's going on?" I whispered to Li Zhisheng as we walked down.
He replied, "Don't you feel that Hu Fang's emotions are off? She has been harboring resentment towards you for leaving her behind before. After everything she's been through and now being in this environment, I'm worried that if her pent-up Hatred builds up too much inside her Void Spirit, it could lead to trouble."
After hearing this, I understood what Li Zhisheng meant; he wanted to ease Hu Fang's emotions to prevent the power of Hatred within her from erupting.
After that, we fell silent as we continued down the narrow staircase. The dim yellow chandeliers above cast an unsettling glow, making us fear that something might jump out at any moment.
After walking for a while, Hu Fang suddenly stopped. I looked over her shoulder and saw a spacious area ahead. The entire space was hexagonal, with doors on each side leading to different rooms.
Inside the space, a few people in suits were patrolling back and forth. Fearing that Hu Fang might get too close and be discovered, I pulled her back slightly. "There’s nowhere to hide here; how are we supposed to get out?"
"Every once in a while, they change shifts. We can take advantage of that to get in," Hu Fang said.
"How often do they change shifts?" I asked.
"I don't know. The last time I was caught, it happened to be when they were changing shifts. There should be at least a ten-minute gap between shifts, so now we can only wait..."
After hearing this, I turned to look at Li Zhisheng. At this moment, the blood seeping from his arm had already stained his clothes red. If we didn't get out soon, he might faint from blood loss, and that would make things even more complicated.
Although I was anxious, just as Hu Fang said, going out now would surely get us caught, and I had no idea about the strength of the guards. However, judging by their demeanor, they were certainly much stronger than those "Walking Dead." Given our current situation, rushing out would be tantamount to suicide.
Thinking about this, I asked Li Zhisheng, "Can you hold on?" He nodded and replied, "I should be fine for a while longer, but if it takes too long, I can't guarantee anything..." As he spoke, he instinctively covered his left hand.
Just then, I noticed that the patrol personnel in the hexagonal room simultaneously raised their hands to check their watches and then walked toward the same door. It seemed that it was time for their shift change...
