Hearing my sigh, the Death Apostle stepped out from behind me and stood beside me. "I lean more towards the latter... You see, whether it was your first encounter with this Box or everything that happened afterward, it seems like someone is subtly guiding you to uncover the truth. Moreover, I have a feeling that everything we do appears to be part of a script that was written long ago, and our every action is being controlled."
I pondered the Death Apostle's words and replied, "You know, I feel the same way. It's as if all our actions are unfolding according to a prearranged plan. Previously, I thought it was Yang Master's people causing trouble behind the scenes, but now Yang Master is so busy with their own affairs that they can't pay us any mind. While this gives me a temporary sense of peace, the feeling of being controlled hasn't disappeared."
As I reached for a cigarette to smoke again, Hu Fang quickly intervened and snatched it away. "Didn't you just smoke? Why do you want to smoke again? Don't smoke so much; it's bad for your health!"
Seeing her like this, I could only helplessly agree. The Death Apostle chuckled at the scene, took the cigarette from Hu Fang's hand, and lit it up. "It's been a long time since I've smoked..." He took a deep drag and exhaled a cloud of smoke.
I pulled out my phone to check the time and patted the Death Apostle on the shoulder. "It's getting late; you keep smoking. I'm going to sleep first. Don't stay up too late; if anything comes up, we can figure it out together."
With that, I turned and went back to my room. After washing up, I went to bed.
...
The next morning, after getting up and preparing some food, everyone gradually woke up as well. After washing up and having breakfast, I told everyone that we were going to visit Li Zhisheng at the hospital. Upon hearing this, Hu Fang expressed her desire to go too.
So I took Hu Fang with me to the hospital...
The journey was silent until we arrived at the ward. Just as we reached the door, we bumped into Li Zhisheng who was about to head out to use the restroom. He was wearing a hospital gown, his hair disheveled and messy as if he had just gotten out of bed.
"You guys are here! Wait a moment; I need to use the restroom first; I'll be right back..." he said hurriedly before running off toward the public restroom.
I mumbled softly, "I thought there was a restroom in his ward; why is he running out..." As Hu Fang and I entered the room, we found both beds empty. It seemed that the girl was using the restroom inside. Seeing this, we had no choice but to sit patiently on the edge of one of the beds.
Just as boredom set in, I inadvertently caught sight of the mark on my hand that I had almost forgotten about. At that moment, it was in a state of growth, having already surpassed my elbow in height; things did not look optimistic.
I thought to myself, "At this rate, if I don't have anything to record, the next time I use Void Spirit could very well be my last day. But if I really encounter a crisis, I can't avoid using it. Plus, I don't have any of the necessary items on hand right now. What am I going to do?"
Just as I was lost in worry, Li Zhisheng returned from outside, wiping his hands with a tissue. "Did you bring anything good to eat?" From his tone, it seemed he had a good night and was in high spirits.
"Hey? Didn't you have a beautiful girl buying you food? Why do you need us to bring you something?" I replied.
Upon hearing me mention that girl, Li Zhisheng turned his head mysteriously to glance at the bathroom and walked over to me slowly. He lowered his voice and said, "About her... I'm a bit puzzled. She seemed fine last night, but when I woke up this morning, it felt like she had become a different person. She wouldn't even talk to me and just lay there in bed without moving. Just now, she got up to use the bathroom, but she hasn't come out yet."
"Well, I haven't seen anyone come out... Did you do something to upset her?" I asked.
Li Zhisheng returned to the bed and shook his head. "No, we were just chatting last night and telling ghost stories."
Hearing this, Hu Fang chimed in, "In the middle of the night and in a hospital, telling ghost stories to a girl? If it were me, I wouldn't talk to you either..."
Upon hearing Hu Fang's words, Li Zhisheng scratched his head in confusion and murmured, "Is that really how it is? But she fell asleep before I finished the story..."
Seeing how concerned Li Zhisheng was about that girl, Hu Fang teased him, "No way! You must have a crush on her!" She deliberately raised her voice a little.
Li Zhisheng quickly waved his hands to dismiss her comment. "Don't say that; I just see her as a friend—nothing more..." His face flushed slightly, whether from being teased by Hu Fang or simply feeling embarrassed about the topic.
But my thoughts were completely off Li Zhisheng, as I found comfort in seeing Hu Fang maintain such a cheerful attitude despite the situation.
"Alright, stop joking around..." I looked at Li Zhisheng and asked, "How are you feeling now? Any better?"
Li Zhisheng tried to lift his left hand wrapped in bandages but winced in pain as soon as he moved it slightly. He grimaced and said, "Nope, still can't move it..."
A voice suddenly came from the doorway, interrupting the conversation. "Of course, she can't move. Her bones are broken, and she hasn't even had surgery. How could she possibly recover?"
I turned to see Li Zhisheng's attending physician standing at the entrance, apparently here for a routine check-up. "Doctor, you're here..." I quickly stood up.
The doctor smiled politely at me and walked over to Li Zhisheng, asking a few questions related to his condition before preparing to leave. Just as he reached the bathroom next to the room, he suddenly stopped.
He pointed towards the bathroom and asked, "Who’s in there? Why is there such a strong smell of blood?" I sniffed the air and indeed detected a heavy metallic scent that hadn't been there when I entered.
Hu Fang chimed in, "Could it be that girl is on her period?" Before she could finish her sentence, a dark red liquid began to seep out from under the bathroom door. At the same time, a loud crunching sound echoed from inside.
"This isn't just about her period anymore..." I said nervously as I approached the bathroom door. I knocked gently and called out, "Miss—Miss—are you okay?!"
There was no response from inside; instead, the crunching grew louder. A sense of dread washed over me as I realized something was terribly wrong! If I wasn't mistaken, she must be gnawing on her own body right now, and that sound was coming from her mouth!
