Hearing this, the man was enraged. He grabbed a glass from the bedside table and hurled it at me.
At that moment, although I couldn't use Void Spirit, I had gained quite a bit of combat experience by now.
"Don't..." The nurse tried to intervene, but before she could finish her sentence, the glass was already flying towards me. I raised my hand and with a sharp "crack," caught the glass firmly, looking at him with disdain. "Don't be so impulsive; it wouldn't be good if you hit a patient." My eyes glinted with menace.
Seeing that I seemed difficult to provoke, the man's fierce expression softened slightly. He lowered his voice, unwillingly saying, "Just you wait..."
I thought to myself, "At this age, still trying to act tough? How childish." With that, I ignored him and casually tossed the glass onto his bed. "Take care of yourself..."
With that, I returned to my seat. Li Zhisheng gave me a thumbs-up and said, "You've really changed; at least you won't act impulsively over these things anymore. You've grown up!"
Seeing him tease me, I retorted, "Shut up! Don't treat me like a kid... You’ll be the one undergoing surgery in a couple of days; then you'll see what it's like."
Meanwhile, the nurse approached me and thanked me before hurriedly leaving, still shaken.
At this point, the new patient lay in bed, no longer humming songs; he seemed annoyed by what had just happened.
I chose to ignore him and chatted with Li Zhisheng for a while longer. He seemed to be in a good mood today; it looked like he had come to terms with the loss of that girl from yesterday.
Just as we were talking, my phone suddenly rang in my pocket. I took it out to check; it was Hu Fang calling. She must have noticed I wasn't home and wanted to check on me.
"Hello, Hu Fang, I'm at the hospital with Li Zhisheng..." I answered the call.
"I woke up and saw your door open but couldn't find you. I asked Death Apostle and they didn't know either... But since you're with Li Zhisheng, that's fine. Is he feeling better today?" Hu Fang asked.
"Since you're worried about me, just give the phone to him; you can talk to him yourself..." I said as I handed the phone to Li Zhisheng.
After they chatted for a few moments, he hung up and returned the phone to me. Then I brought up Gu Kai and told him about the photos I had seen last night.
After listening, he said, "Now we are surrounded on all sides; there's no way out..."
Before he could finish speaking, a doctor's voice came from the doorway. As soon as he entered, he said, "Um... Li Zhisheng, your surgery time has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. Don't eat anything tonight..." After delivering the message, without waiting for us to respond, the doctor turned and left, seemingly overwhelmed with tasks at hand.
I smiled at Li Zhisheng and said, "How's it going? Your retribution has arrived, hasn't it? You were just teasing me..."
But Li Zhisheng replied calmly, "The sooner we finish the surgery, the sooner I can be discharged. Aren't you supposed to go find Master Yang before me? The longer we delay, the worse it is for us."
Hearing him mention it, my previously relaxed mood sank. "Yeah, after your surgery, I need to prepare some things too..."
With that, both of us fell into silence, sitting quietly until noon.
After asking Li Zhisheng what he wanted to eat, I got up to buy him something. Just as I was leaving, I noticed the person in the bed next to Li Zhisheng looking at me strangely. He pulled out his phone and seemed to be telling someone something about me. But I didn't think much of it and walked out.
As soon as I stepped out of the hospital, my phone buzzed again; this time it was a call from Li Zhisheng. "Did he forget to tell me what else he wanted?" I muttered as I answered the phone, "Hello? What else did you forget?"
On the other end, Li Zhisheng spoke softly, "Shen Xu, be careful. The guy next to me seems to have found someone who wants to take revenge on you..."
"Got it!" I replied firmly before hanging up. I thought to myself, "This guy isn't done yet; he really plans to get back at me. After everything I've been through, I'm not afraid of you guys."
With that thought in mind, I decided not to dwell on it and went to buy food for Li Zhisheng. However, just as I crossed a street, a few thugs blocked my path.
One of them stepped forward and said, "Heard you're pretty tough..."
He spoke menacingly with a crooked smile while revealing a gleaming knife at his waist.
I couldn't be bothered to look at them properly and casually asked, "What do you want?"
"Oh~ still so arrogant?" The leader signaled one of his lackeys to grab me. Just as the thug's hand reached for my clothes, I suddenly sidestepped and grabbed his outstretched hand with both of mine, twisting it sharply behind his back.
The thug yelped in pain from my grip. His cries drew the attention of passersby who began whispering among themselves: "A fight with thugs..." "Should we call the police?" "Forget it; it's better not to get involved and avoid trouble..."
Hearing this made me shake my head helplessly as I murmured, "People are really indifferent these days..."
Seeing this, the thugs cursed and pulled out their knives, lunging at me. Since they were too close for me to dodge in time, I had no choice but to release the thug I was holding and took two big steps back. The thug stumbled forward due to the sudden loss of support.
In that fall, he collided directly with the knives held by his companions, three or four sharp blades plunging into his abdomen all at once.
The scene was shocking, not just for the thug but for everyone around. In broad daylight, under the gaze of many, a knife attack had taken place.
The thugs quickly realized the gravity of the situation and panicked, abandoning their injured companion as they fled in all directions. "Don't... don't leave me..." the man with three daggers stuck in his abdomen pleaded, collapsing to the ground with a thud as blood slowly seeped from his wounds.
Seeing this, I didn't have time to think. I picked up the injured man and rushed towards the hospital.
Fortunately, the hospital was nearby, and within minutes, I had brought him there. After some emergency treatment, he finally stabilized and was out of danger.
After this series of events, it was already afternoon. Li Zhisheng, noticing my prolonged absence, called me again. I explained the situation to him, and he hurried over to my floor.
At that moment, although the injured man was no longer in life-threatening condition, he still looked very weak, lying on the hospital bed with pale lips. When he saw me standing by his bedside, he turned his head and whispered faintly, "Thank... thank you..."
I felt no sympathy for him; instead, I spoke to him sternly. "I've already paid your medical bills, but remember this: don't get involved in such things again. If something like this happens again, I guarantee you won't be as lucky next time."
