Hearing the shout from the grocery store owner, I quickly let go of Jiang Ling and fished out the five talismans that Death Apostle had given me from my pocket. I couldn't afford to hesitate any longer, so I randomly pulled out three and threw them at Yao Long's forehead. At the same time, I used Jiang Ling to cut my palm, letting my blood splatter onto the talismans.
In that critical moment, my blood hit the talismans, and one of them stuck to Yao Long's forehead while the other two fell to the ground beside him.
As the blood-stained talisman adhered to him, the blue flames surrounding him gradually dimmed. Before long, Yao Long suddenly slumped down and collapsed onto the ground.
Seeing this, I struggled to get up and check on him. Meanwhile, Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang, who had been knocked back earlier, rushed over with the grocery store owner.
They surrounded me, asking with concern, "What happened?!"
Before I could respond, Yao Long raised a hand weakly and said, "I... I'm fine..."
I got up and grabbed his hand to pull him up, asking, "How do you feel now? Can you continue?"
"I'm okay; just a bit disoriented. I should be fine soon. How about you?" he asked in return.
"I'm fine too; just got stepped on by you..." Seeing that Yao Long was not seriously hurt, I quickly turned to the grocery store owner and said, "You need to check if the curse in that mine has been lifted!"
Upon hearing this, the grocery store owner hurried to the mine entrance to take a look while Li Zhisheng and the others stayed back with me in case anything unexpected happened.
He approached the entrance and cautiously shone his flashlight inside. From his actions, it didn't seem like he was being disturbed by any so-called curse.
After a moment, the grocery store owner turned back and waved at us as if bidding farewell. He exclaimed excitedly, "It's done! Finally! After all these years, I've finally come to understand the mistakes I've made..." Without waiting for us, he turned and ran into the mine alone.
Li Zhisheng looked at me in confusion and said, "What’s going on? Are we just here to help him open the door?"
"No way! We can't let him go in alone..." I pulled Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng along and urged, "What are you waiting for? Let's go!"
With that, we all ran after him. Yao Long had just used Hatred's power and wasn't fully recovered yet, so I supported him as we ran inside.
Once we entered the mine, everyone took out their phones for light. As soon as we illuminated the area, several bats were startled and flapped their wings over our heads. Hu Fang screamed in fright, "Ah!"
"Don't be afraid, it's just bats," I said as I looked around. The ground was littered with broken and decayed tools, and a rusty mine rail lay tightly in the center. The wooden beams on either side creaked ominously, as if they could break at any moment. Occasionally, gravel and dust fell from the ceiling of the cave, seemingly triggered by Yao Long's earlier strike.
I wanted to call out to the shopkeeper, but I realized I didn't even know his name yet, so I had to settle for calling him "boss." "Boss! Where are you?! Wait for us!" I shouted.
Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang joined in, calling out as we walked deeper into the mine. No matter how loudly we yelled, there was no response, only our echoes bouncing back at us.
As we ventured further in, the air grew increasingly cold. Hu Fang sneezed repeatedly and leaned closer to me. "Shen Xu, why is it so cold here?"
Li Zhisheng replied seriously, "What if it's because there are ghosts around?"
Hu Fang was about to retort when Li Zhisheng scared her again. "You..." But as soon as she spoke, she noticed Li Zhisheng's serious demeanor and realized he wasn't joking. She moved even closer to me, almost pressing against my side.
Suddenly, we came upon a fork in the path, with two tunnels leading downward—one to the left and one to the right.
"This doesn't make sense; how can there be a fork in the mine so soon? Shouldn't we reach the mining area first?" I muttered to myself.
At that moment, a commotion erupted from the left tunnel. The sounds were chaotic and indistinguishable. I quickly shone my phone's light in that direction, but its illumination was limited; beyond its reach lay an impenetrable darkness.
As the noise from the tunnel grew louder, tension filled the air. Yao Long had recovered and was holding Azure Spirit aloft, aiming it at the left tunnel. Li Zhisheng had already gathered Black Sphere in his hand, dark energy swirling around him.
I gripped Jiang Ling tightly while pulling out a talisman with my other hand, preparing for whatever might happen next.
Suddenly, countless red dots lit up in the darkness, floating and flickering in mid-air—impossible to count.
Seeing this, Li Zhisheng wasted no time and threw Black Sphere at the red dots. With a loud bang, Black Sphere exploded in mid-air. However, Yao Long did not shoot an arrow; instead, he slowly lowered Azure Spirit.
"It's just some bats..." he said calmly.
As soon as he finished speaking, the bats that had survived the explosion flew over our heads in such numbers that it sent chills down our spines.
"It looks like the shopkeeper definitely went this way..." I pointed towards the left tunnel.
"How did you know that?" Hu Fang asked curiously.
I pulled them along as we walked, saying, "Think about it. When we entered the cave just now, didn't a lot of bats fly out in a panic? If the shopkeeper took this route, he would likely have startled the bats too. So, no matter what, this path is at least more probable than the other one."
After hearing this, Hu Fang nodded thoughtfully, seeming to grasp my point.
But just then, I felt something rushing out from deep within the cave entrance, and it was definitely not bats. I could clearly sense the ground trembling.
While we were still puzzled about what it could be, Yao Long had already drawn his bow. Without hesitation, he formed several arrows from his own blood and shot them towards different spots ahead.
As several red lights flashed by, the arrows disappeared into the endless darkness. "Didn’t hit anything? Why is there no reaction?" I muttered to myself.
But Yao Long suddenly shouted, "Quick! Everyone move to the sides and stand apart! Hurry!"
