"No, it's going to collapse here! We need to get out now!" Yao Long exclaimed in panic, while Li Zhisheng remained unconscious beside him. Despite his own exhaustion, he had managed to carry the unconscious Li Zhisheng on his back.
Hearing this, I said to Yao Long, "You go ahead; I'll catch up..."
Yao Long nodded, urging me to be careful before he hurriedly turned and ran toward the cave's exit. I grabbed Jiang Ling, retrieved my backpack that I had dropped earlier, and lifted the collapsed Hu Fang into my arms, desperately sprinting toward the exit.
As I ran, debris rained down from above like a sudden storm. With Hu Fang in my arms, I couldn't shield myself from the falling rocks. Worried about Hu Fang getting hurt again, I used my body to protect her from above, but stones continued to strike my back and shoulders...
After a frantic dash, I finally escaped the cave just before it completely collapsed. Outside, it was already bright, and I spotted Yao Long catching his breath not far away.
Seeing him, I rushed over, panting heavily. "Quick, let's go... We can talk about everything once we're back at the inn..."
Upon hearing me, Yao Long mustered all his strength and hoisted Li Zhisheng onto his back again as he sprinted toward the inn.
About ten minutes later, we returned to the inn. Yao Long and I laid Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng on the bed. Wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, Yao Long asked me, "What should we do next? Li Zhisheng has lost too much blood and needs urgent treatment..."
I thought for a moment. "The transportation here is inconvenient. The only contact I have is the phone number for that car rental agency, but there's no signal here. I'm not sure what to do..."
At that moment, Yao Long frowned. "In that case, let's find Mr. Death and see if he has any good ideas..." He took a deep breath and headed for the door.
It was then that I remembered Death Apostle was still in the grocery store. If it weren't for Yao Long's reminder, I might have forgotten about him entirely. So I followed Yao Long to the grocery store. The shop door was closed now, but I vaguely remembered it wasn't locked when we left.
Standing at the door with Yao Long, we knocked on the wooden door while calling out inside, "Death Apostle! Open up!" Yao Long shouted as well, "Mr. Death! We're back!"
After a moment, we heard the sound of wooden benches being moved inside. Then Death Apostle called out with difficulty, "You... you guys wait a moment; I'll be right there..."
After what felt like an eternity of waiting, we finally heard the sound of the door opening half an hour later. As soon as Death Apostle opened the door, he exclaimed, "Shen Xu! You tied me up too tightly; it took me forever to get free..."
But he stopped mid-sentence when he saw Yao Long and me covered in dirt and bloodstains, our clothes tattered and looking like beggars.
Seeing this scene, he hurriedly helped us into the shop and asked, "Why are only the two of you back? Where are the others?!"
I explained, "Hu Fang has fainted from overexertion, and Li Zhisheng seems to have fainted from excessive blood loss. We need to find a way to get Li Zhisheng out quickly; otherwise, he will be in danger!"
Upon hearing this, Death Apostle looked confused and glanced behind me and Yao Long, asking, "Wait, what about the boss?! Where did he go? Could it be…"
Before he could finish, my expression darkened immediately as I nodded silently.
Seeing this, Death Apostle didn’t press further. Instead, he said, "I'll figure out how to get back to the city. You both look badly injured; you should go back to the inn and rest. I'll come find you once I have a plan..."
After hearing this, Yao Long and I, having not slept all night and exhausted from the battle and hunger, felt too weak to search any longer. At that moment, even the thought of my heart beating felt like a waste of energy. Seeing Death Apostle's determination, we had no choice but to agree.
We then returned to the Inn to rest while Death Apostle went off alone to find transportation. However, even though I was already utterly fatigued, looking at Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng lying on the bed—both looking even weaker than us—my heart twisted in anguish; I wished I could take their suffering upon myself…
After a while, Death Apostle burst through the door, panting heavily. He stood at the entrance and said anxiously, "I found a vehicle willing to take us into the city. Hurry up and pack your things; we need to go…"
With that, he lifted Li Zhisheng from the bed and rushed outside. Seeing this, Yao Long and I didn’t dare delay; we worked together to support Hu Fang and followed him out.
As soon as we stepped downstairs, we noticed an old-fashioned jeep parked at the entrance. The black paint was chipped and rusted in many places. Yet at that moment, this vehicle felt more valuable to us than a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Seeing that the car door was already open, I helped Hu Fang inside without hesitation alongside Yao Long. By now, Li Zhisheng had been placed in the back seat by Death Apostle, who took his place in the front passenger seat.
Once he saw that we were all settled in, he turned to the driver and said, "Alright, let’s go…"
The driver turned around to look at us; his face was covered with a thick beard and he had sharp eyebrows and fierce eyes that made him appear intimidating.
However, unexpectedly, when he spoke, his voice was gentle. "Is this everyone?" he asked.
Death Apostle nodded. The driver understood and responded affirmatively before starting the engine…
The car jolted along the uneven gravel road, making it quite bumpy. I had to hold tightly onto Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng beside me, just to keep them from hitting the windows.
At that moment, Hu Fang slowly began to wake up. I couldn't tell if it was due to the car's rough ride or if she had regained some strength.
Seeing me holding her, a hint of color returned to her previously pale face. "What... what are you doing..." she murmured softly.
However, my attention was so scattered, coupled with the roar of the engine, that I barely caught what she said. I noticed she was awake and quickly loosened my grip, feeling a bit embarrassed. "You're awake! Do you feel better? Is there anything uncomfortable?"
Hu Fang shook her head slightly. "I'm much better, just a bit weak. I just need some time to rest..."
I asked her about her injuries and felt relieved when she assured me there was nothing serious. However, during this time, Li Zhisheng remained unconscious, and his breathing grew weaker. Even when I touched his neck, it was difficult to feel his pulse.
Seeing this, I urged the driver repeatedly, "Driver, please hurry! My friend might be in danger..."
