Just as I was about to swing my sword, I suddenly saw that person extend their staff and with a sharp "clang," deflect my weapon. In the next moment, they turned their body and landed behind me.
Seeing this, I quickly turned to respond, but just as I did, a wave of heat surged against my back. With a dull thud, I was sent flying.
"Refusing to drink the toast, you’ll have to suffer the consequences!" the person behind me said. Before I could hit the ground, they chased after me and delivered a powerful kick to my back, sending me crashing down.
Even though the ground was covered in a layer of snow, that blow left me seriously injured. However, I wasn’t completely immobilized; I quickly rolled to the side and sprang back up like a carp leaping from the water.
"Oh? You can still stand?" The person stood there with their staff, looking at me as if I were already dead. Steadying myself, I replied, "Don’t underestimate me!" With that, I suddenly gathered my strength and charged at them, kicking up a flurry of snow.
The person remained motionless, neither dodging nor preparing any defense. I thought to myself, "Since you’re so dismissive, don’t blame me for being ruthless." With that in mind, I focused my energy and gripped my sword with both hands behind my back.
But just then, an intense Killing Intent surged beside me, accompanied by a fierce wind rushing toward me. I hurriedly halted my charge and steadied myself as I swung my sword to the right.
At the moment I struck out, my Slash Mark collided with something unknown and exploded in front of me with a loud bang, sending me flying ten meters away.
Just as I regained my footing, that Killing Intent came at me again—this time it felt dangerously close. I couldn’t muster another strike to fend it off.
In that critical moment, a figure flashed before me. The speed was so great that even my Void Spirit couldn’t catch a glimpse. The figure stopped in front of me and casually waved their hand, completely dispersing the intense Killing Intent.
"We meet again, Void God..." Even though the person had their back to me, I immediately recognized them by their voice. "Gu Kai! How did you end up here..." I exclaimed in surprise.
"Weren't you just here? We have plenty of time ahead..." Gu Kai said as he revealed a dark green sword that stood out starkly against the pitch-black night. He held it in one hand and turned to point at the staff-wielding person with disdain. "Yang Feng, I didn’t expect you to still be alive. You’ve become quite a sight for sore eyes; why not just die already? Why make things difficult for yourself?"
"So his name is Yang Feng?" I thought to myself and asked Gu Kai, "How did you find me?" Gu Kai sneered and replied, "As long as I want to find you, I can do so anytime..."
Before he finished speaking, Yang Feng addressed Gu Kai: "My life and death are none of your concern. We are completely unrelated; yet you keep interfering with me. What exactly do you want?"
"I want what I want, and you will never guess it, even if you die." Gu Kai said, completely ignoring me as he focused his power into the tip of his sword. The blade in his hand gleamed like emerald, radiating a dazzling light.
"Are you really going to make an enemy of me?!" Yang Feng exclaimed, a hint of fear in his voice as he took a few steps back. He then unleashed his own Void Spirit. "It's not that I want to be your enemy; it's that you want to be mine!" With that, Gu Kai swung the green sword fiercely, and in an instant, a whirlwind of green light surged toward Yang Feng.
Yang Feng was not one to back down. He tossed aside his staff and quickly conjured a flame sword from his red fire-like Void Spirit. The sword blazed with fiery light, enveloping Yang Feng's arm and merging seamlessly with it.
With a shout, he swung the sword down toward the radiant green aura. I stood by, my mouth agape at the display of their immense power, thinking to myself, "No wonder it takes at least forty percent of Void Spirit's strength to have a chance against them, and even then it's just a chance..."
Just as I was lost in thought, Gu Kai turned to glance at me calmly and said coldly, "What are you waiting for? Are you waiting to die?! Hurry up and go!"
His words snapped me back to reality. "I know without you telling me," I replied. I then looked back at the green light and saw Hu Fang sitting in the snow not far away. Her eyes were wide open, her face showing surprise as if she were entranced.
Seeing this, I ignored Gu Kai and ran over to Hu Fang, pulling her up. "What are you staring at? We need to take care of urgent matters first!"
"Ah?!" Hu Fang exclaimed, coming back to her senses. She nodded and followed me as we sprinted toward the direction of the truck.
All the while, explosions echoed behind us, red and green lights flashing alternately, illuminating the dark night sky.
But I had no time to look back; my eyes were fixed on the truck ahead with its headlights blazing as we raced toward it.
Just as I was about to reach the truck, several figures in black emerged from the bright front of the vehicle. They stood under the lights, steadily approaching Hu Fang and me.
Seeing this, I quickly halted and positioned Hu Fang behind me while gripping Jiang Ling tightly, watching the five black-clad figures warily.
As they noticed my stop, they all raised their right hands in unison. Under the headlights, a multitude of Soul Threads surged from their sleeves, wrapping around their arms. In no time at all, their arms were completely encased in red Soul Threads, resembling drill bits.
"Do you need help?" Hu Fang asked from behind me, still a bit shaken. With the power of the Void Spirit within me, I sensed that there were only a few lowly thugs ahead, so I replied, "These small fries are no problem for me..."
With that, I quickly stepped forward. Just a few paces in, I suddenly exerted force beneath my feet and dashed towards the five men with lightning speed. In an instant, a shadow of black swords flashed before the headlights, and the five of them were immediately cut into pieces.
Seeing that there was no one around, I leaped up onto the truck, intending to smash the stone tablet on top of it directly.
But just then, I heard Hu Fang scream in surprise. I turned to see another figure dressed in black had already grabbed her by the neck, and I could vaguely see a gleaming short knife in his hand, poised at her throat.
"Don't move! Drop your sword! Otherwise, this woman is as good as dead!" he threatened me.
In that moment, panic surged within me, but I quickly regained my composure and said to him, "Alright, I'll drop it. Just don't hurt her!"
Calming myself, I slowly drew the power of the Void Spirit back into my body. Then I raised both hands and turned the tip of Jiang Ling's sword towards my own chest...
