Just when I thought I was doomed, I suddenly felt a strong gust of wind rush past me. Startled, I opened my eyes wide and saw the Old Woman standing before me. Behind her, a pair of wings had sprouted, shimmering like crystal in the red glow, and her left side had grown black scales similar to those of Yao Long.
"Old Woman, you..." Before I could finish my sentence, the Old Woman turned her back to me and waved her left hand. A swarm of black bees surged forth from her hand like a tidal wave, rushing toward the rain of arrows falling from the sky.
In an instant, the azure arrows collided with the black swarm, exploding into a mass in mid-air. Many bees that had managed to withstand the arrows were engulfed in blue flames and instantly turned to ash, raining down from above.
Suddenly, those bees wrapped in blue fire fell like burning blue petals from the sky—a truly breathtaking sight.
Seeing me stunned by the scene before me, the Old Woman turned back and said, "Buddy, leave the rest to me. You focus on waking your friend." With that, she pushed me aside.
Looking at Yao Long again, he stood frozen in place due to my last words, his Azure Spirit still aimed at the sky, resembling a dark statue.
"Yao..." I tried to call out to him again, but unexpectedly he appeared beside me in a flash. Before I could react, I felt a heavy punch strike my abdomen. I let out a grunt and was sent flying once more.
The Old Woman quickly turned around at this sight. She swiftly pulled out a small brown bronze cauldron from her pocket, no bigger than a palm.
Holding the cauldron in one hand, she opened its lid with the other. At that moment, Yao Long seemed to sense something unusual; he shrieked and turned around, reaching out to grab the Old Woman's cauldron.
But just then, a strange insect crawled out of the cauldron. It was bright red and only as long as a human finger. It resembled a centipede but was not quite one; it had pincers at its front.
Upon seeing that insect, Yao Long recoiled as if he had encountered his nemesis. I stood at a distance; my strength was nearly depleted, and I could barely maintain my Void Spirit. I could only watch helplessly from afar.
"Yao Long! Aren't you supposed to be strong-willed?! I refuse to believe you'll lose to the Worm King! Don't give up! We need you to save the Death Apostle when we get back!" I shouted.
However, this time when I called out, Yao Long did not freeze as before; instead, he suddenly went into a frenzy. He raised his Azure Spirit and began shooting arrows wildly in all directions, demolishing everything around him. It seemed as if he was engaged in an intense internal struggle against the Worm King.
At that moment of chaos, the insect that had emerged from the Old Woman's cauldron flapped its wings and prepared to take flight. After a few flaps, it suddenly leaped forward and lunged straight at Yao Long's face.
At that moment, Yao Long was completely unaware of the approaching monster, lost in his own chaotic shooting and letting out a series of terrifying screams. The Old Woman, fearing that she might be injured by Yao Long's erratic arrows, instinctively took a few steps back.
Just then, the monstrous creature was about to fly right into Yao Long's face, yet he remained oblivious. Nevertheless, the arrows he shot still struck the creature, not killing it outright but severing its wings.
With its wings gone, the creature could no longer fly and plummeted to the ground. However, upon seeing the monster fall, the Old Woman shouted in alarm, flapping her wings behind her and quickly flying to my side. She reached out and lifted me up, carrying me away to a distant Mountain before finally landing.
Once we were steady on our feet, I looked in Yao Long's direction. To my astonishment, the creature had inexplicably grown several meters long and stood over three people tall. It swung its pincers down towards Yao Long.
But due to its massive size and Yao Long's indiscriminate attacks at that moment, countless arrows struck its body directly. The azure arrows pierced through it, creating numerous holes as blue flames erupted from its wounds.
"Truly worthy of being the Worm King..." the Old Woman remarked as she watched Yao Long from afar, unable to contain her admiration.
"No, he possesses more than just the Worm King; there is also something called the Void Spirit within him..." I replied.
"Void Spirit?" The Old Woman asked in confusion.
"That's right, Void Spirit. In other words, he currently harbors three souls: his own soul, the Void Spirit, and the Worm King..."
Upon hearing my explanation, the Old Woman still seemed somewhat perplexed. "Regardless of what resides within him, it's clear that the Worm King is currently in control of his body..."
After hearing this, I didn't want to elaborate further; I could only hope that the Void Spirit within him would lend him some assistance.
At that moment, it was evident that the gigantic creature was on the verge of being shot to pieces by Yao Long. However, despite having the Worm King’s power aiding him, Yao Long could not prevent his strength from waning due to continuous exertion.
The creature seemed to sense this as well; although it was riddled with injuries from the arrows, it was still alive. It lowered its body to dodge Yao Long's shots and began circling around him relentlessly...
Suddenly, the monstrous creature seemed to find its opportunity. It abruptly lifted its head and clamped down on Yao Long with its massive pincers. At that moment, Yao Long was facing away from the creature, unable to even turn around due to the sudden grip.
Seeing that Yao Long was immobilized, the creature let out a strange cry and opened its mouth, filled with long antennae, ready to bite down on Yao Long. Instinctively, I shouted, "Yao Long, watch out!"
I couldn't tell if Yao Long heard my voice, but the creature wasted no time in swallowing him whole. It then coiled up on the spot, appearing quite satisfied.
Witnessing this scene left me at a loss as I turned to the Old Woman beside me. "What... what is this? My friend was just eaten like that?!"
The Old Woman gestured for me to calm down. "If your friend truly has the ability to control the Worm King, then such danger would be insignificant to him. But if he lacks that ability, then even if I don't kill him, he will still be devoured by the Worm King in the end..."
Before the Old Woman could finish her sentence, I saw the monstrous creature suddenly stand upright in the distance. Then there was a loud bang. In an instant, the creature exploded from within, yellow liquid splattering everywhere. Wherever that yellow liquid touched, green smoke began to rise, indicating its strong corrosive properties.
At that moment, Yao Long emerged from the remains of the creature, his body radiating a dark sheen as if he had been reborn…
