"Ah, it's nothing, nothing at all. I was just thinking of a strategy," I said, glancing at Hu Fang and the flickering streetlights outside. At that moment, Hu Fang seemed perfectly normal, her face etched with concern as she looked at me.
"Maybe I'm overthinking it," I reassured myself internally.
"Do you have any good ideas now?" Hu Fang asked, her eyes filled with expectation, as if she hoped to receive some comforting answers from me.
But I was in a state of confusion myself; how could I provide her with any reassuring answers? I shook my head, "Ever since the amusement park was destroyed last time, I haven't been back. I don't even know what it's like inside now, let alone think of any countermeasures. Plus, with Li Zhisheng in their hands, any strategy we come up with would be futile. We'll just have to deal with whatever comes our way when we get there..."
As I spoke, the car came to a stop. After paying the fare, the three of us got out and stood before a scene of devastation. I couldn't believe it: "Is this really the amusement park from before?"
Hu Fang nodded, "Yes, this is it."
Before me lay not only some collapsed concrete walls but also a heap of metal frames supporting the amusement rides and scattered decorations that once adorned the park.
"Do you remember where you were attacked?" I asked Hu Fang beside me.
"I do. Follow me... but be careful..." Hu Fang replied as she led the way into the now-closed amusement park.
I followed closely behind, signaling to Yao Long to stay alert for any potential enemies that might appear.
Walking through the abandoned amusement park, an eerie silence enveloped us, broken only by the distant rumble of vehicles passing by. Aside from that, it was pitch dark; all lighting had long been destroyed.
"I didn't expect that bull from Underworld to cause such destruction. No wonder we were no match for it," Hu Fang remarked as we navigated through the darkness toward the underground parking lot of the amusement park.
At this point, it had nearly collapsed; only a few inconspicuous openings seemed to lead below. Hu Fang took out her phone and turned on the flashlight, looking back at us. "We came down here before; there’s a passage that collapsed just right to lead underground—where we were captured."
With that, she bent down and entered a one-meter-square opening. Just as I was about to follow her, Yao Long suddenly took Azure Spirit off his back and looked warily into the air. "Shen Xu, didn't you notice how heavy the Yin Qi is here?"
Hearing this, I quickly stopped and looked up at the sky. The night sky was bright with stars and moonlight; I didn't see anything unusual. However, I did feel a slight heaviness in the air that Yao Long mentioned regarding the Yin Qi.
"What's up there?" I asked.
"There are a lot of Wandering Spirits and Wild Ghosts floating above. They are probably the souls of those who died when the amusement park collapsed," Yao Long replied, yet he did not shoot an arrow, seemingly unaware of any malicious intent from the Wandering Spirits and Wild Ghosts.
"Humans have both good and evil; since ghosts are human souls, they must also have their own distinctions. If they mean us no harm, then we shouldn't hurt them either. Hu Fang has already gone down; we should hurry before we get separated, which could be dangerous." With that, I followed Hu Fang into the cave and signaled for Yao Long to catch up.
Upon entering the cave, I found it even narrower than it appeared from outside, with steel rebar protruding from the concrete walls, making it difficult to advance.
"Hu Fang, don't go too fast; wait for us..." I called out toward the glowing area deeper in the cave.
Hearing me, Hu Fang stopped and turned back to look at us, who had fallen a bit behind. "What are you doing? Hurry up and catch up!"
"I'm coming!" I replied, quickening my pace and crouching low as I navigated through the steel bars until I reached Hu Fang's side.
"Alright, we..." Just as I was about to speak, I saw Hu Fang suddenly lean back and then fall to the ground.
The unexpected scare caused her phone to slip from her hand and fall beside her. With the flashlight facing down, darkness enveloped us.
Seeing this, I quickly found her phone and picked it up. "Hu Fang, what's wrong?! Are you okay?"
At that moment, a dragging sound echoed through the narrow cave, accompanied by Hu Fang's piercing scream as if she had encountered something terrifying.
Behind us, Yao Long had already sensed danger before me. He raised his hand to shoot an arrow but bumped into a nearby steel bar, producing a loud clang.
"No! It's too narrow here; there's no way to attack!" Yao Long exclaimed anxiously.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, I quickly raised Hu Fang's phone to see what was happening ahead. As I lifted it, I caught sight of Hu Fang being dragged backward by an indistinct figure not far away. The limited light from the phone illuminated her struggling against whatever was pulling her, her face contorted in sheer terror.
I couldn't afford to hesitate any longer; I hurriedly quickened my pace to chase after her. However, due to the chaotic steel bars above me, I couldn't move very quickly and frequently got snagged by them. Watching Hu Fang get farther away until she gradually vanished from my sight filled me with anxiety. In that moment of desperation, I knew I had to summon Void Spirit to cut through those obstructive steel bars immediately.
“Hu Fang, don’t worry, I’m coming to save you!” I shouted to comfort her while struggling to move forward. Behind me, Yao Long saw that I was moving too slowly and quickly pulled me aside. “Let me go ahead…”
With that, he sidestepped and agilely maneuvered in front of me, twisting his body to dodge the steel bars while swiftly advancing.
In the moment of my distraction, Yao Long had already pulled ahead by a considerable distance. Realizing this, I hurried to catch up. However, his speed was astonishing; even with all my effort, I couldn’t match half of it.
“Truly impressive for someone who frequently undertakes missions…” I muttered to myself.
At that moment, due to the long journey and having been hunched over since entering the cave, I could distinctly feel my back aching. It seemed like my waist was about to give out under the strain.
Just then, a loud “boom” echoed from behind me, followed by the sound of the cave starting to collapse. Debris accompanied by a series of crashing noises began to fall from above.
Hearing this, I thought to myself that it was bad news; if I didn’t hurry, I might end up crushed into a pulp by tons of steel and concrete falling from above…
