Upon hearing this, a chill ran through me, and an inexplicable sense of fear surged within my heart. I thought to myself, are all our actions and daily lives truly under someone else's control?!
"Can you sense who that person is?" I asked Haoyang eagerly.
Haoyang shook his head helplessly. "I can't tell. Although I can sense that someone is present, I have no idea where they are. It's like..." Haoyang paused for a moment before continuing, "It's like a ghost, formless and invisible, yet incredibly powerful. Just the feeling alone can instill fear in people."
"Just the feeling alone can instill fear?!" I repeated Haoyang's words, thinking that if that were the case, it couldn't possibly be someone from Yang Master. If it were them, they would have acted long ago. But who else could possess such immense power?
As I pondered this, two possible names floated into my mind: "Gu Kai, Li Yu!" In my recollection, only these two could potentially wield such formidable strength. Li Yu is the father of Li Zhisheng, possessing a Void God far more powerful than what resides within me. And Gu Kai is a legendary figure whose strength is unfathomable; his every action is like that of a ghost—appearing and disappearing without a trace.
"Could it be Gu Kai?" I murmured softly.
Beside me, Haoyang heard my words and asked in confusion, "Gu Kai? Who is that?"
I absentmindedly replied while still deep in thought, "It's a long story about him. In short, he has some similarities to your situation; I suspect it might be him."
At the same time, I contemplated that if it truly was Gu Kai, it would explain why he always appeared at critical moments to save me from danger. It seemed he had been watching us from the shadows without ever revealing his presence; even Yao Long, who could discern sounds and positions, had failed to detect him.
Right! If Yao Long hadn't discovered him all this time, why could Haoyang? As this thought crossed my mind, the hair on my body stood on end, and I suddenly felt a cold sweat break out over me. Even under the blazing noon sun, I sensed a chill permeating the air around us.
Noticing something was off with me, Haoyang asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
I didn't respond directly to his question but cautiously asked instead, "Do you know about Yao Long's abilities?"
He looked puzzled by my abrupt question but replied, "Yeah, he has a bow called Azure Spirit, along with a living Void Spirit, and his insight is extremely sharp. He was always a reliable hand during missions."
"Since you know that, I want to ask you one question..."
Before I could finish, Haoyang understood my thoughts. He said, "You want to ask me why Yao Long didn't notice something that I did, right?"
"Since you know, can you explain it to me?" I replied, my expression turning serious.
"Don't be so tense; it's not as complicated as you think..." Haoyang paused for a moment and continued, "Actually, have you noticed one thing? Yao Long cannot sense my presence."
Hearing this, I suddenly recalled the moments when Haoyang had appeared before. It seemed to be true; every time Yao Long sensed Haoyang's presence, it was only when Haoyang was very close to us and had made some noise. Unlike how Yao Long could perceive other things from a distance.
"It does seem that way. What exactly is going on?"
"This isn't hard to understand. My body can suppress its own aura, making it difficult for others to sense my presence. Because of this, the person who has been watching you all didn't notice I was nearby. This inadvertently allowed me to discover their existence."
From what I gathered, it seemed that the person who had been monitoring us had somehow controlled our perception of them, while Haoyang's extremely weak presence allowed him to slip past the watchful eye of that observer.
"So can I understand your ability as 'invisibility'?" I asked.
"That would be one way to put it. That's why in the organization, I was responsible for all kinds of theft and surveillance tasks, which is quite different from Yao Long."
"Given that, there are indeed many extraordinary individuals in Yang Master. Who knows, there might even be someone who can control others' consciousness..."
Haoyang looked at me seriously and said, "Don't underestimate it; such a person does exist. In fact, she is a high-ranking leader with formidable power. Anyone who angers her faces dire consequences; even some higher-ups fear her."
"There really is someone like that..." I was taken aback. The thought of potentially facing such an opponent filled me with dread. However, Haoyang's explanation eased some of my concerns about him, and the chill I felt toward him dissipated somewhat.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng, sitting in the front row and feeling bored while we were deep in conversation, got up and walked to the back where I was sitting. "Hey, what are you guys talking about? Bring me in on it; I'm dying of boredom up front."
But since the vehicle was moving on a bumpy road, Li Zhisheng struggled to keep his balance and nearly fell several times. He grabbed onto the overhead handle with one hand to steady himself. Seeing this, I quickly stood up and offered him my seat. "Oh no, don't stand; just sit down quickly before you fall."
I helped Li Zhisheng to his seat. He pretended to be an old man and said to me, "Buddy, you have such a kind heart..."
He reached out his hand to pat my head, but I quickly swatted it away and said, "You're just pretending to be frail. Don't act like a senior, okay?"
Seeing me lift Li Zhisheng's arm, Haoyang's curiosity was piqued, but he hesitated, unsure whether to ask. Noticing this, Li Zhisheng casually grabbed the empty sleeve of his other arm and said, "Are you wondering why my hand is missing?"
Haoyang quickly explained, "I didn't mean to mock you. I was just... just a bit curious."
Upon hearing this, Li Zhisheng wore a proud expression and chuckled, "This arm? I lost it when I fought a hundred opponents back in the day..."
I covered my face in disbelief. When did you ever fight a hundred people? You couldn't even handle two without getting caught. Have some shame!
Just as I was about to interrupt his tall tale, a loud bang echoed from outside the window. The vehicle suddenly lost balance and started skidding on the mountain road, followed by a chorus of terrified screams from inside the cabin...
