I was quite surprised to hear that, but looking at the bloodstains all over us, it was no wonder he was scared.
"Don't be afraid. We just had a car accident and are looking for a place to treat our wounds and rest for the night. We're not dangerous people," I said. Upon hearing this, the attendant steadied himself and carefully examined the three of us. "A car accident? Where did it happen?"
"Our bus had a tire blowout on the way to this town and rolled off a cliff. It seems everyone else on board died, and only the three of us survived..." At this point, I suddenly remembered that he hadn't been slacking off, which felt a bit strange, so I pressed on, "By the way, you weren't slacking off earlier, do you know anything about the Blood Farmer?"
He seemed hesitant when I asked so directly, wanting to say something but holding back. After pondering for a moment, he replied, "You’re injured. Let me get you a room to rest first; the clinic isn't open right now, and you can't treat your wounds..." With that, he busied himself and asked for our identification for registration before leading us to a room on the second floor.
The room wasn't large and lacked decoration, appearing somewhat shabby but still clean enough. He handed me the room key without saying a word and quietly left.
Inside the room, Li Zhisheng pondered aloud after the attendant left, "This attendant must know something... but how can we get him to talk?"
As I took off my clothes, I replied, "Maybe money will make him open up?" The blood seeping from my wounds had stuck my clothes to my skin, making it painfully difficult to undress.
Meanwhile, Haoyang sat on the bed unwrapping bandages to check his wounds. "There's no need to spend money; I have a better way to make him talk... For now, let's just rest a bit and deal with everything later..."
Afterward, we washed our wounds with some clean water to avoid infection and lay down on the beds to catch some sleep.
Before long, loud crowing from outside woke me from my slumber.
"Is it dawn?" I opened my eyes but felt incredibly heavy and couldn't get up. Haoyang was already standing by the window gazing outside while Li Zhisheng was still sound asleep.
Haoyang turned back to look at me and said, "There's a clinic nearby that's already open. Should we go treat our wounds?"
Hearing this, I struggled to sit up and rubbed my tired eyes. "Let's go."
We then woke Li Zhisheng and left the room together. When we reached the front desk, we noticed that the attendant from last night was nowhere to be seen.
Haoyang instinctively glanced at the items displayed at the front desk and revealed a subtle smile but said nothing as he followed us out of the Inn.
Once outside the Inn, Li Zhisheng and I followed Haoyang toward the clinic he had spotted earlier. Although it was still early and there weren't many pedestrians on the street, our tattered clothes stained with blood still drew attention.
We walked in silence until we arrived at the clinic. Without hesitation, Haoyang stepped inside and called out, "Is anyone here?"
I followed closely behind Li Zhisheng and entered the clinic. A calm yet somewhat aged voice responded from within, "Coming~ coming~." As the voice drew nearer, an old man with white hair and a white coat pulled aside the curtain and walked out from the back room.
Upon seeing our tattered appearance, he initially looked surprised, but when he noticed our injuries, he immediately urged us to sit down. He quickly took out a stethoscope and a medical kit and sat beside us.
He asked anxiously, "What happened to you? How did you get hurt like this?"
I replied with a wry smile, "Car accident."
As I spoke, the old doctor began examining our wounds. My injuries were not too severe; they only required simple stitches and bandaging, and after taking some anti-inflammatory medication, I was mostly fine.
Haoyang's leg injury was more serious; he received over twenty stitches and had several layers of bandages wrapped tightly around it before it was deemed finished. Li Zhisheng's wounds were minor, requiring only a few adhesive bandages.
Once everything was taken care of, it was already nearing the afternoon. After paying the medical fees and thanking the old doctor, we left the clinic.
Standing at the clinic's entrance, I looked around. The streets were gradually becoming busier. "Since we've taken care of our wounds, let's see if we can find any useful clues," I suggested thoughtfully.
However, Haoyang glanced up at the blazing sun overhead and said, "We already have a clue. First, let's fill our stomachs before making further plans."
"What clue?" Li Zhisheng asked in confusion.
"Don't worry; let's find a restaurant to sit down first," Haoyang replied as he took the lead and walked onto the street.
I didn't press for more details but followed behind him, thinking to myself that if all went well, Haoyang's clue likely involved something that could coax information out of the waitstaff.
Noticing my silence as I fell into thought, Li Zhisheng seemed to understand something as well and chose not to speak further, quietly trailing behind Haoyang.
The journey was uneventful. I felt uneasy under the unusual gazes of passersby, as if we were monkeys in a zoo.
"Let's go with this one!" Haoyang stopped in front of a restaurant.
I looked up at it. It was a modest home-style restaurant with simple decor but relatively clean. Strangely enough, despite it being mealtime, there were very few diners—only two people sitting sporadically in a corner.
The waiter in the restaurant saw the three of us standing at the door and hurriedly greeted us with a warm smile, asking, "What would you like to eat, gentlemen? Come in, come in!"
"What do you have to eat?" Haoyang asked as he stepped into the restaurant first.
The waiter enthusiastically followed us and introduced, "We have everything here—things that fly, things that run on the ground, and things that swim in the water..."
Unable to contain my curiosity, I interrupted him and asked, "What flies? What runs on the ground? And what swims in the water?"
Seeing my eagerness, the waiter chuckled and replied, "We have quail that flies, pigs that run on the ground, and for those that swim in the water..."
Just as the waiter was proudly listing off the options, I suddenly caught sight of someone sitting in the corner who looked somewhat familiar.
"Isn't that the waiter from Inn?"
