Li Zhisheng, sitting beside me, heard my muttering and turned to look at the corner of the restaurant. There, a figure resembling the Inn Attendant was seated sideways, engrossed in their meal, completely unaware of our arrival.
"Come, come, please sit over here," the attendant warmly invited us to a table next to the Inn Attendant. He then pulled out a menu and asked what we would like to eat.
I took the menu and absentmindedly ordered a few dishes before quietly asking Haoyang, "Did you choose this restaurant on purpose because you saw him?"
Haoyang smiled. "Just a coincidence, nothing more." His voice was a bit loud, inadvertently drawing the attention of the Inn Attendant.
"Hey? You guys are eating here too?" the Inn Attendant turned around to speak with us.
I politely smiled back. "Ah, yes, what a coincidence! Why don't you come join us?"
The attendant hesitated at first but felt it would be rude to decline our warm invitation. He brought his food over and sat down with us.
"Your dishes haven't arrived yet; why not have some of mine?" he offered, glancing at our table.
"It's fine, we're not in a hurry. We're not that hungry yet." Just then, my stomach betrayed me with a loud growl, but thankfully, the attendant didn't hear it.
At that moment, I glanced at Haoyang, who was intently observing the attendant. After a moment, he got straight to the point: "Buddy, I think you know about the Blood Farmer situation, right? If you do, why not share what you know?"
The attendant froze for a moment upon hearing Haoyang mention Blood Farmer and then replied seriously, "I really don't know anything; please don't put me in a difficult position."
Haoyang seemed to have anticipated this response. He shifted his approach and patted the attendant's shoulder. "You might not know about Blood Farmer, but I know about your embezzlement. Also, you're married now; if your wife finds out you're still seeing someone on the side, what do you think she would think?"
Hearing Haoyang's words shocked not only the attendant but also Li Zhisheng and me. We wondered how he knew all this information. Did he know this attendant from before?
The attendant's expression stiffened; his face twitched slightly as his chopsticks clattered to the floor. "H-how do you know all this?!" he stammered in fear.
Haoyang gave a chilling smile. "Don't worry about how I know. If you tell us about Blood Farmer now, I'll pretend I never heard about your little secret. But if you don’t..."
"Alright, I will!" The waiter interrupted Haoyang, saying, "But you have to promise not to tell anyone about this!"
Haoyang nodded, "Don't worry, I'm not interested in your matters. We just want to know about the Blood Farmer."
The waiter looked at Haoyang with some distrust, but at that moment, he had no other choice. "The reason I don't want to tell you about the Blood Farmer is that he retaliates against anyone who speaks of him, so I..."
Hearing this made me feel a sense of déjà vu; it seemed somewhat similar to the situation with the Worm King.
"Just recently, there was a woman in a village who faced retaliation because she spoke about the Blood Farmer. Apparently, her son died because of it. If you force me, then I can only tell you..."
Before he could continue, I interjected, "Isn't the Blood Farmer someone who plants people in the ground? Anyone who is sown by him will grow bright red fruits..."
Upon hearing this, the waiter looked relieved and quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, that's right! Since you already know this, why are you still asking me?"
I replied, "We are asking you to confirm two things: first, whether the rumor we heard is true; second, where this rumor originated. Now all you need to do is tell us where that village you mentioned is located."
After listening to me, the waiter hesitated and frowned. "I only heard about that incident; I'm not sure if it's true. Moreover, there are three villages near our town, so I don't know which one it is..."
"Then where are these three villages approximately located?"
"Um..." The waiter thought for a moment and said, "There are two villages to the south and southwest of the town, and one in the north. The two villages near the south are quite far away; you'd have to cross several mountain peaks to get there, and there's no road access—only on foot. But the village in the north is much closer; there are buses going there every morning at seven and every afternoon at four. It takes about half an hour to reach."
I pondered for a moment. "So how long would it take to get to the southern villages?"
"If you're quick on your feet, you could make it in three or four hours. If you're slow and unfamiliar with the path, it could take all day; you might even get lost... Are you planning to go there?" The waiter showed a hint of concern.
At that moment, another waiter came over with dishes in hand. "Here you go, gentlemen! Your food is ready..." He placed several steaming plates in front of us. "There are still two more dishes; please wait a moment while I go get them." With that, he turned and left.
I glanced at the food on the table and then at the visibly anxious waiter beside me. Smiling at him, I said, "Don't be so nervous; we're not bad people. We just want to know some information. Come on, let's eat together."
The waiter, upon hearing this, turned his face to glance at Haoyang, as if seeking his approval. Seeing this, Haoyang smiled and said, "Why are you looking at me? Let's eat together."
Noticing Haoyang's casual and calm tone, the waiter finally relaxed. He took a pair of chopsticks from the holder on the table and joined us for the meal.
After enjoying a variety of dishes and feeling satisfied, we sat on the stools to rest for a while. We chatted with the waiter about the local customs and culture before settling the bill and preparing to leave.
When it was time to pay, I covered the waiter's share as well, as a gesture of gratitude for the information he provided.
After leaving the restaurant, the waiter had some matters to attend to, so we parted ways. Later, feeling that our clothes were quite unpresentable, we decided to wash them briefly at the inn.
While waiting for our clothes to dry, I curiously asked Haoyang how he knew about the waiter’s background.
Haoyang, wearing shorts and hanging up his outer pants, smiled at me and replied, "Did you forget what kind of work I do in Yang Master...?"
