“Are we really without any chance of winning this time?!” Yao Long looked at me with a hint of fear in his eyes.
Yao Long was right; this time, there wasn't even a one in ten thousand chance. If I didn't use the power of Hatred, I wouldn't stand a chance against the rampaging Hu Fang. Yet Li Yu could easily subdue Hu Fang, which showed that Li Yu's strength was far beyond that of our group.
Now, with Void Spirit present, there were still two enemies whose strength matched Li Yu's, and even the keenly perceptive Yao Long couldn't sense them. This indicated that those two were even more formidable.
Thinking about it, a strong sense of dread welled up within me. “Yao Long, Li Zhisheng, do you still have any strength left?” I asked, my brow furrowed with worry.
Yao Long forced a smile. “All my strength went into that last arrow. If we fight again, I can only rely on the Azure Spirit's ability to condense my blood into arrows and the wooden arrows I made before setting out.”
Li Zhisheng raised his hand, slowly gathering power. A tiny Black Sphere, no larger than a thumb, gradually formed in his palm, indicating he had little strength left as well.
Seeing that everyone was nearly exhausted while Hu Fang and Haoyang were unconscious, and Death Apostle had no combat power without Void Spirit, I realized I was the only one left who could fight.
I gritted my teeth and tightened my grip on Jiang Ling. “Since I promised Li Yu to carry out this plan, I will protect you all and ensure you return safely!”
With that resolve, I stood up angrily and walked over to Li Yu's side. Leaning in close, I whispered, “Let me fight alongside you.”
Upon hearing this, Li Yu turned to look at me. Seeing my determined expression, as if I had accepted my fate, he didn't refuse. He simply turned back, his gaze fixed ahead as he spoke in a low voice: “Focus.”
Slowly, Li Yu raised one hand, palm facing outward as he aimed at the severely damaged cave ahead. “Someone is coming…” With that, he released a brilliant beam of light from his palm, as thick as an arm, shooting straight into the tunnel within the cave.
In an instant, that beam of white light seemed to pierce through the entire mountain as it shot forth. At that moment, a voice echoed from within the cave—deep and powerful: “Old Friend, it’s been a long time. Is this how you greet me?”
With a sound, an old man with white hair, leaning on a black cane, staggered out of the cave. It seemed that the attack just launched by Li Yu had caused him no harm at all.
"You old fool, who are you calling 'Old Friend'!" Li Yu retorted without hesitation.
"Many years ago, we crossed paths and fought to a standstill. Now that we are both advanced in age, why bother with words? Earlier, I saw these young ones come here and didn't want to intervene; after all, this is their affair, and as an old man, I should not meddle. But since you have come, I must show myself. What brings you here..." As he spoke, the old man tossed his cane aside, and flames of orange began to ignite around him.
The flames around him grew larger, quickly enveloping his entire body. At that moment, illuminated by the flames emanating from him, I noticed that the cane he had discarded was intricately carved with five You Long. These You Long appeared to be sculpted from gold, shining even brighter under the glow of the yellow flames.
"Do not engage; we cannot fight! With our current strength, if we engage, we will surely die!" Void Spirit exclaimed within me, sounding extremely alarmed. I could clearly feel the fear emanating from the depths of Void Spirit's soul.
As I caught sight of those yellow flames, a strong sense of oppression washed over me. Even though I was resolved to face death, witnessing such overwhelming power filled me with dread. A chilling fear crept into my heart.
"Li Bo..." I was about to ask Li Yu if there was any chance of victory when I saw him remain unfazed and calmly place his hands behind his back. "The past is not like today. Do you think I've been hiding all these years just to escape? Today, let me show you what I've been carrying. Prepare yourself, Ling Shi!"
With that, a powerful Killing Intent erupted from Li Yu. The original white light transformed into bolts of lightning that continuously spread around him.
"Hatred?!" I gasped but soon realized that the Hatred he wielded was entirely different from what Hu Fang and Yao Long used. It was as if he could completely control his Hatred, releasing that terrifying power at will.
As the power gradually expanded, Li Yu slowly moved his right foot back and struck the ground with one hand. With a thunderous boom, the earth around us began to tremble violently.
"Buddy, hold on tight!" Li Yu shouted suddenly with determination as the ground beneath the White-Haired Old Man began to crack incessantly, beams of white light emerging from below.
"Ling Shi... it has been a long time since I heard that name. However, I no longer go by that name; my name is Fan!" The White-Haired Old Man named Fan declared as he unleashed his own power. The yellow flames surrounding him instantly transformed into sharp bolts of lightning that danced across the ground around him.
At that moment, I saw the cracks in the ground beneath Fan's feet widening, as if a tremendous force was about to erupt from below him.
I stood at a distance, fully aware that this power was extraordinary. If it were me in his place, I would probably be reduced to ashes by the scorching white light before I even had a chance to react.
Yet the old man named Fan showed no intention of dodging. He braced himself against the searing white light beneath him and struck down with his palm. In an instant, the earth seemed to tear apart, with yellow and white light swirling across the ground. Deep, bottomless fissures opened up around us.
"Get out of the way!" Li Yu shouted at me. Not daring to hesitate, I quickly channeled Void Spirit energy into my legs and leaped into the air, trying to avoid the scorching light resting on the ground.
Just as I left the ground by only a small height, a tremendous explosion echoed around me. At the same time, yellow and white lights intertwined, forming an enormous beam of light that shot straight up into the sky.
The range of this beam was so vast that I couldn't escape it; I was instantly enveloped within it.
In that moment, an intense burning sensation surged across my body. I felt as if I were about to be turned to ashes right then and there...
