Just as I felt myself on the brink of death, all fear vanished from my heart, replaced by an overwhelming sense of tranquility and peace. I gazed at the dazzling light before me, slowly closed my eyes, and ceased all resistance, quietly awaiting the arrival of death.
"What are you doing?! Are you really willing to die like this?!" the Void Spirit shouted angrily within me.
"I'm not willing, but what can I do in the face of such overwhelming power?" I replied calmly.
At that moment, I suddenly felt a coolness surrounding me, as if an invisible force had dispersed the scorching light away from me.
"What’s happening?" I opened my eyes in surprise and saw Li Yu standing before me. He raised his hand to dispel the light and said, "Buddy, are you okay?"
I was momentarily speechless, astonished that Li Zhisheng's father would risk himself to save me. "I’m fine...," I mumbled.
As soon as I finished speaking, the figure known as the White-Haired Old Man rushed into the beam of light. Seeing that Li Yu was blocking the attack for me, he seized the opportunity to gather power in his palm. Suddenly, his hand emitted a strong glow as he aimed it at Li Yu's back and struck.
Since Li Yu was facing away from the old man, I couldn't afford to hesitate any longer. I quickly reached out and grabbed Li Yu's shoulder, shouting, "Behind you!" as I tried to push him away.
However, it seemed that Li Yu had already sensed something amiss. Before I could exert any force to push him aside, he grabbed my wrist with one hand and swiftly turned around, pulling me aside. With his free hand, he opened his palm to meet the incoming attack.
There was a loud clap as their palms collided. The old man shouted as if he were gathering a massive amount of power within his hand. I could distinctly feel an incredibly powerful force continuously accumulating at the point where their palms met.
As the force grew stronger, Li Yu released my hand and gathered a bright ball of light in his other hand, launching it swiftly toward the old man's abdomen.
This strike was incredibly fast; in the blink of an eye, Li Yu sent the white ball flying toward the old man. It seemed destined to hit. But the old man was no ordinary foe; sensing this, he suddenly exerted force from his palm and propelled himself away from Li Yu with great speed.
Seeing that his attack had missed, Li Yu took advantage of the momentum and released the white ball from his hand.
A fierce wind howled as a massive white sphere shot out, carrying with it an overwhelming force, hurtling straight towards the old man.
Seeing this, the old man was momentarily taken aback, but quickly leaned to the side. The white sphere whizzed past him; its immense power left a scorching mark on his skin even without a direct hit.
The old man winced in pain, letting out a soft "ouch," and slightly swayed, nearly losing his balance in mid-air.
Witnessing this scene, I thought to myself, what a perfect opportunity! If I could take him down now, Li Yu would conserve a significant amount of energy. If another strong enemy appeared later, Li Yu would still have enough strength to handle it.
With that in mind, I unhesitatingly poured all my internal power into Jiang Ling. The amount was so vast that the dragon-shaped hilt of the sword widened to the size of a person and grew several times longer than before.
You Long danced around me, continuously amplifying its own power and injecting it back into my body. It felt as if I possessed boundless strength within me.
"Die, old man!" I shouted, swiftly grasping Jiang Ling and closing in on him at an incredible speed. With both hands gripping the sword tightly, I aimed for his waist and swung horizontally, intending to cleave him in two.
As the sword shimmered with an eerie black light and unleashed black lightning, it was about to strike. But just then, the old man's lips curled into a strange smile.
In a flash, he seized the blade of Jiang Ling, attempting to wrench it from my grasp. Realizing the danger, I tried to pull back the sword. However, my forward momentum was too great; I couldn't pull back in time.
With no other choice, I used my momentum to thrust Jiang Ling forward with all my might until the hilt pressed against the old man's hand gripping the blade. Only then did I come to a stop.
Looking at his hand, there was no sign of injury from Jiang Ling. I couldn't tell if it was due to my insufficient strength or if he had skillfully avoided the sharpest part of the blade.
"You..." I began to speak but suddenly realized how close I was to him. The lightning generated by his Void Spirit power crackled around me; some of it grazed my face, instantly slicing open a wound that caused blood to flow freely.
"Youth," he said calmly with a smile on his face, "you mustn't act too impulsively. Do you know that recklessness can often lead to death?" As I looked at him, despite his friendly demeanor and calm words, an intense feeling of fear welled up within me—stronger than even facing a Vengeful Spirit.
"Let him go!" Behind me, Li Yu shouted anxiously as he saw me being grabbed.
The old man in front of me chuckled softly, "Let him go? Sure, but I have a condition... trade your life for his!"
Suddenly, he became ruthless, using his free hand to grab my neck and lift me off the ground.
In that instant, I felt as if all my strength had drained away, leaving me unable to move. Yet, despite this, my hands clung tightly to Jiang Ling, refusing to let go. I knew that if I released my grip, all the power I had infused into Jiang Ling would vanish, and at that moment, I would be nothing more than a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
"I'm not done yet! Are you really not going to fight back?! What are you doing? Just waiting to die? Now you're coming here to deliver yourself! If you truly want to die, just tell me—I’ll take your life myself!" The Void Spirit roared furiously within me.
At this moment, with my neck in his grasp, even breathing felt laborious, making it harder for me to speak. Nevertheless, I gathered all my strength and replied to the Void Spirit, "I... I'm not seeking death; I want to live! In this situation... if I don't fight back, it’s not just me who will die—everyone here will perish!"
With that thought in mind, I lifted my foot and kicked the old man's body with all my might. I knew it was a futile struggle, but I did it anyway. I shouted back to Li Yu behind me, "Li Bo! Hurry up and kill him! Don’t worry about my life; otherwise, everyone here—including your son—will die! I'm sure you understand!"
