In an instant, the dark purple light filled the entire interior of the oval mark on the wall, transforming into a shimmering Underworld Gate.
Seeing this, I quickly stepped back two paces, retreating from the Underworld Gate. Li Zhisheng also sensed the danger and moved aside, channeling energy into a Black Sphere, ready to strike at any moment.
With the appearance of the Underworld Gate, waves of intense Yin Qi emanated from within, and even I, who had retreated to the side, felt a bone-chilling cold.
"Heart!" With a shout, Yao Long took a swift step forward, positioning himself in front of me. Suddenly, his bare skin was covered with the armor of the Worm King. He clenched his fists and raised his arms, launching a punch that carried a fierce gust of wind.
As his powerful punch was unleashed, I felt the penetrating Yin Qi diminish significantly, as if this strike had shattered part of the emerging Vengeful Spirit.
At that moment, a gloomy voice echoed from within the gate: "You finally dare to show your face. I've been searching for you for so long."
Clearly, the voice from inside was directed at me. It carried a strong sense of malice, reminiscent of a wronged soul transformed into a Vengeful Spirit, but even more formidable.
"Brother, you must stop being so stubborn. You cannot blame this brother for our father's death; it was our father's own doing. Why can't you understand?" The man stepped forward, gently pushing me and Yao Long aside, signaling us not to interfere any further.
"I am not being stubborn! The one truly lost in delusion is you! You believe that old man's so-called principles and disregard the vengeance for our father's murder! Are you not ashamed to be called his son? Are you not unfilial?"
"The path of filial piety should be based on good deeds. If a family member makes a mistake, we can forgive them. But if it involves murder, even if you and I can tolerate it, reason cannot allow it! Brother, wake up! Otherwise, I will have no choice but to shatter you myself!" Tears fell from the man's eyes; it seemed he still hoped to persuade his brother with words.
Hearing this, I could no longer hold back and spoke up: "The Taoist behind the Underworld Gate, your father was killed by my own hands. But what you don't know is that when he fought me, he could no longer be considered a person. If I hadn't killed him, he would have killed me instead—many more lives could have been lost as a result..."
Before I could finish, the voice from within the Underworld Gate sneered: "Hmph! Your father was no human! Even at death's door, he insults my family! You must be tired of living!" With that, the Underworld Gate trembled violently as a wave of Killing Intent rapidly spread out from within.
Feeling that surge of Killing Intent, I sighed softly: "Why are you so overconfident? With your strength, you wouldn't even stand a chance against my Void Spirit, let alone Yao Long's Void Spirit. Why seek your own demise?"
Just then, the resolute-faced man beside me spoke: "Since you've made up your mind, there's nothing more I can do... Go ahead and make your move..." He stepped aside from in front of me and gestured toward the voice coming from the Underworld Gate, seemingly inviting it to come and kill me.
Upon seeing this, not only I but also Yao Long and Li Zhisheng widened our eyes in astonishment. We couldn't believe we had fallen into another trap once again.
"Oh? I didn't expect you to come to your senses. Truly, you are my good brother!" The voice from the Underworld Gate suddenly became excited, and the oval-shaped black-purple door began to tremble violently.
In an instant, a shadow flashed out from within and appeared before me. "The revenge for my father's death will finally be avenged today! How satisfying!" He shouted, reaching out his hand towards me.
Seeing this, Yao Long and Li Zhisheng hurriedly positioned themselves in front of me. Yao Long raised his arm, covered in Worm King Armor, to block the attack.
But before that shadow's hand could touch Yao Long, a man and woman from the side, who were skilled in assassination, swiftly stepped forward. In a blink, a black sword shadow flashed past me.
There was a scream of agony as the shadow that had emerged from the Underworld Gate had its arm severed by the Black Sword. "Brother, you..."
The assassin man remained unfazed, raising his sword to stab into the shadow's body while coldly saying, "I intend to settle scores with you. If it weren't for this, how could I lure you out of your shell?!"
With that, he suddenly became fierce and thrust the Black Sword upward. Following the blade's edge, the shadow let out a loud cry before being cleaved in two, turning into a cloud of smoke.
"It seems he has consumed too much Void Spirit to maintain the Underworld Gate during this time..." The man said as he swung his Black Sword and sheathed it at his back.
Then he clasped his fists and bowed slightly to me with a solemn expression. "Thank you for your assistance, brothers..." He then pulled out a yellowish envelope from his robe and continued, "This is something my master asked me to give to you."
As I took the envelope, I felt puzzled and was about to ask what it was when the two assassins interrupted me. "Well then, we shall take our leave."
As the woman passed by Li Zhisheng, she seemed to whisper something to him, causing him to freeze for a moment.
After they left, I quickly asked, "What happened? What did she say to you?"
Li Zhisheng replied, "She... she actually apologized to me again..."
"I thought it was something serious; look at you being so easily swayed," I teased him.
Meanwhile, Yao Long remained noncommittal: "How could this be? This is too simple; this Void Spirit and Underworld Gate..."
Upon hearing this, I replied, "It should be just as that person said earlier. The Void Spirit consumed too much power while supporting the Underworld Gate, which left it weakened and easy to defeat. However, if I were to face it myself, I might truly be in grave danger."
"Yes, perhaps that's the case..." Yao Long said as he looked at the marks left on the wall by the opening of the Underworld Gate. At that moment, the once-open Underworld Gate had vanished, leaving only an oval imprint on the wall.
"Let's head back and see what the letter says..." With that, I left the house with Yao Long and Li Zhisheng.
Outside, there were still many possessed patrol officers wandering the streets like Zombies. To avoid harming them, we carefully steered clear of the officers and finally managed to escape the perimeter, making our way to the city center.
Afterward, we took a Taxi and headed home.
Once we arrived home, Death Apostle and Hu Fang came over to ask about what had happened. I recounted everything that had occurred earlier.
After listening, Yao Long also felt it was strange and said, "This really seems too simple; could there be a trick involved..."
