Afterward, we each received treatment at the hospital. Hu Fang and Death Apostle were not seriously injured; they were just overly fatigued and felt better after receiving two bottles of glucose.
As for me, I had a scratch on my back that required stitches and anti-inflammatory treatment, which delayed me for a bit longer.
By the time we left the hospital, it was nearly noon. The three of us stood at the hospital entrance when Death Apostle suddenly asked me, "By the way, Shen Xu, where are Li Zhisheng and Yao Long? I haven't seen them."
"They ran into some trouble and stayed at Mountain. They should be safe for now. As for the details, we should at least go home and change clothes; we can't just stand here on the street like this." I shook my blood-stained and tattered clothes.
"True, let's head home first then."
As I spoke, I waved down a taxi, and the three of us got in together.
After more than half an hour, the car stopped outside our rental apartment. We paid the fare and thanked the driver before heading upstairs together.
Arriving at the door, we looked at the wide-open entrance and the chaotic furniture inside, along with the large hole in the wall made by my punch. We all sighed simultaneously.
After exchanging glances, I took the lead and said, "Come on, let's clean this up together." With that, I stepped inside and began tidying up what looked like a garbage dump.
Seeing this, Hu Fang and Death Apostle joined in to help…
After some time spent organizing, we finally managed to restore order to the messy room. "Phew—finally done," I sighed in relief as I leaned back against the sofa.
Meanwhile, Death Apostle stood by the wall facing me. He gave me a thumbs-up and pointed to the big hole behind him. "The room is tidy now, but what about this? If the landlord sees it, will he kill you?"
I looked at the hole in the wall and replied helplessly, "What can we do? We'll have to call a renovation company later. But it's probably too late today; the sun has already set, and I bet they’ve closed for business."
"Yeah, we'll deal with it tomorrow then…" Death Apostle said as he pulled a nearby bookshelf over to block the hole in the wall to prevent drafts.
Just as he finished covering the hole, Hu Fang's voice came from the kitchen. "Shen Xu! The fridge fell over earlier and seems to be broken now. Everything inside has spoiled. What are we going to do about food?"
"Well, if it breaks, we'll just buy a new one later. This time it's just bad luck; there's nothing we can do about it. But since we have no food left, let's just go out to eat. We've been busy all day, and you all must be tired. Let's treat ourselves to something nice." With that, I stood up, went back to my room to change my clothes, and urged Hu Fang and Death Apostle to do the same. Only then did the three of us head out together.
As we reached the street, it was bustling with people. The nearby restaurants were filled with the sounds of chatter and laughter; it seemed like it was peak dining time, with every place packed.
"There are so many people! Where should we eat?" Hu Fang asked beside me. She no longer had that reckless hunger I remembered from our first meeting; instead, her face bore a hint of worry, and I couldn't tell what was on her mind.
"You’re the expert in this area; why are you asking us?" I replied with a smile, hoping to lighten her mood a bit.
"I’m just checking your preferences. What about you, Death Apostle? What do you want to eat?" Hu Fang turned to ask him, her frown easing slightly thanks to my earlier smile.
Death Apostle seemed lost in thought and didn’t catch Hu Fang's question at first. "Huh? What did you just say?" he asked as he snapped back to reality.
"I asked what you want to eat. Why are you so deep in thought?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I'm just a bit worried about Yao Long and the others. As for food... you know me; I'm pretty easygoing about that. You guys can choose."
Not getting a definitive answer from him, Hu Fang casually pointed to a uniquely decorated restaurant by the roadside. "How about this one?"
"Sure," I agreed, and we made our way toward the restaurant.
Once inside, we ordered a few dishes at random. Since there weren't many customers in the restaurant, the waiter quickly brought our food to the table. As we ate, Death Apostle said, "Shen Xu, we've been busy tidying up at home and haven't had a chance to ask you—can you tell me what happened after you went up the mountain?"
Seeing his curiosity, I set down my chopsticks and recounted the events that had taken place earlier.
After listening, Death Apostle wore an expression similar to what I had when I first learned of the situation. He asked in confusion, "So you're saying that the Assassin is planning to team up with you against Yang Master?"
"That's a possibility, but I'm not sure. They might have other motives as well. However, judging by the current situation, they don't seem to have any ill intentions; otherwise, with that old man's strength, he would have acted long ago," I replied.
"That's why you don't seem so worried about them; it all makes sense now..." murmured the Death Apostle.
"It's impossible not to worry, but I'm more confused about why you were captured and why Gu Kai, whom we haven't seen in a long time, suddenly came to help. And what about that mysterious woman...?" I replied, puzzled.
"There are too many mysteries right now, and it's hard to unravel them all at once. Given our current situation, we can only take it one step at a time... How about you lead us up the mountain first and tell Li Zhisheng and the others about these matters? Let's see if they have any good ideas."
"Well, that's all we can do for now." With that, the three of us fell silent, focusing on our food. Although the dishes at this place weren't particularly good, it was better than having empty stomachs. After finishing our meals in a few bites, we settled the bill and left the restaurant.
On the way home, we had initially been chatting about trivial matters, but for some reason, Hu Fang suddenly opened up about her feelings.
"Did you know? I've actually wanted to leave for a long time because this is too dangerous for me. But I never told you..." Hu Fang said slowly, lowering her head with a hint of sadness.
Hearing this, I sighed and said, "It's not just you; I've thought about leaving too. But now that you’re all involved, if I let you go recklessly, it would be fatal for both you and me. After all, Yang Master’s target is no longer just me; it's all of us..."
