"Through this door, I can communicate with some Vengeful Spirits from the Underworld. Through them, I can learn certain things about the Underworld... but because of this, my own soul has gradually become strange... That's why I have set a rule that no unrelated people are allowed to enter when I use these hidden rooms."
Mo Shu finished speaking and turned to the stone table behind him, picking up a piece of paper that had an imprint of Hu Fang's mark on it. He handed it to me and said, "The pattern depicted here represents the King of Hell from the Underworld. As far as I know, anyone marked with the King of Hell's seal will either be dragged into the Underworld by him or die from the erosion of his power. I don't know how your friend came to bear this mark, but one thing is certain... the person who branded your friend with this mark is definitely not ordinary, at least above my level."
At this point, Mo Shu slowly rolled up the paper in his hand and handed it to me. He then reached into the still-glowing black-purple Underworld Gate and quickly pulled out a black wooden block, which seemed to be the Guiding Wood.
As he took out the Guiding Wood, the Underworld Gate before us vanished instantly, revealing a Soulstone behind it that immediately radiated a gentle light, bringing a sense of reassurance and sweeping away the anxiety and tension we had just felt.
"So, did I misunderstand you? You opened this Medium Gate to help us gather information?"
"That's right, but I didn't expect you would barge in so recklessly. It's also my fault for not considering everything..." With that, Mo Shu took out a Cloth Bag from his pocket and slowly placed the fist-sized Soulstone inside before tucking it away.
"It's getting late; you should go rest. If there's anything else, we can discuss it in the morning." After saying this, Mo Shu yawned nonchalantly and headed straight for the main door.
At that moment, the door was already blocked by a stone bench he had kicked out earlier, making it impossible to open.
"Mo Shu Old Senior, there are still Vengeful Spirits outside..." I called out from behind him.
"This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Ever since you killed those eight Mountain Guardians, this place has been haunted at night..." Mo Shu replied casually as he quickly raised his slender Black Soldier and cleaved through the locked stone door with one strike.
With a loud crash, the door collapsed. Mo Shu sheathed the Black Soldier back into his staff and walked through the dust stirred up by the fallen door without a care.
I stood alone in place, looking at the rolled-up imprint paper in my hand, feeling quite conflicted. On one hand, I didn't think Mo Shu was lying; on the other hand, it seemed like he was hinting at something deeper, leaving me suspicious.
"Forget it. Since he doesn't want to share and hasn't shown any intention to harm us deliberately, there's no need for me to overthink it. I should go back and see how Yao Long and the others are doing..." I muttered to myself as I made my way toward the door.
Leaving the room, I happened to see Mo Lin and Mo Yu running past with a group of people, so I hurriedly called out to him and walked towards the hall together.
On the way, Mo Lin told me that the Vengeful Spirits here had basically been cleared out and asked why I was alone in this place.
I candidly recounted my earlier encounter with Mo Shu to him.
Upon hearing this, Mo Lin's jaw nearly dropped in shock. It turned out he also didn't know why Mo Shu had locked himself in the room. After listening, he admitted to me, "Honestly, there were a few times when I was curious and wanted to sneak in to see what was going on. Luckily, I didn't go in; otherwise, I would have had to meet my master in the Underworld through some door..."
I replied, "Not necessarily. Your master definitely wouldn't want to kill you. If you had barged in recklessly, you would have been fine..."
As we spoke, we arrived at the hall. With the candlelight from Mo Lin's hand, I saw Yao Long searching around the hall. Hearing footsteps and seeing the light, he realized someone was coming over. He followed the light and approached us, saying, "Shen Xu! Where have you been?! I've been looking for you... I thought something happened."
I smiled wryly and said, "As you said, I almost got into trouble... I nearly got killed by their master."
"What?! Is that true?!" Yao Long exclaimed in surprise. "Is there some conflict between you and Mo Senior? He doesn't seem like a bad person."
"It's complicated. Anyway, once Li Zhisheng and Death Apostle wake up..." Just as I was about to say that we should wait for Death Apostle to join us, I suddenly remembered that Death Apostle was still missing.
Realizing this, I froze for a moment as an uneasy feeling surged within me. "Right! Where did Death Apostle go?! Haven't the Vengeful Spirits been mostly eliminated? Why hasn't Death Apostle returned yet... Have any of you seen my friend Death Apostle?!" I anxiously asked Mo Lin.
Just as my words fell, Mo Lin opened his mouth but hadn't spoken yet when Yao Long interjected first: "You mean Mr. Death? He's actually hiding in the hall, quietly squatting in a corner, which is why we didn't notice him at first. Later, when I came back, I accidentally saw him. Although he was possessed by a Vengeful Spirit, he seems like a real 'coward'... I've already knocked Mr. Death out and moved him to the bed; we're just waiting for you to come and exorcise the Vengeful Spirit from him."
Yao Long seemed both amused and exasperated; we had worried for half a day only to find out it was just a "coward."
"Since everyone is fine then that's good..." Mo Lin said. "I'll help your friend exorcise the Vengeful Spirit first; after that, you all should rest early."
I nodded in agreement and then took Mo Lin back to the room with me.
After understanding the Vengeful Spirit within the Death Apostle, I was utterly exhausted due to the drain of Void Spirit's power and the injury inflicted by Mo Shu. It wasn't long before I lay down on the bed and fell asleep.
I don't know how long I slept, but suddenly, a dull bell chimed from below. "What? Is it morning?" I mumbled, rubbing my eyes while still lying in bed.
"Not yet~" I heard a sleepy voice reply, and seeing that it was still pitch black around me, I turned over and went back to sleep.
Not long after closing my eyes, I felt the room suddenly brighten. Opening my eyes again, I saw Mo Yu lighting the candles on the wall with a lit candle in hand, while Mo Shu Old Senior followed behind him.
Seeing that we were still deep in sleep, Mo Shu looked at us and muttered to himself, "You city folks really can sleep..."
At the sound of his voice, I forced myself to wake up and was about to get out of bed when a sharp pain shot through my arm as soon as I exerted any strength, as if a scabbed wound had been torn open again...
