The intense pain jolted me awake, and I gasped sharply, gritting my teeth before collapsing back onto the bed.
At the doorway, Mo Shu hurried over to my bedside, leaning down to look at me. "Buddy, what happened to you?"
I replied irritably, "You old man, after beating someone up, you don't take responsibility? Didn't you injure me last night?!" I glanced at the wounds on my body; since they hadn't been treated promptly, a considerable amount of blood had stained the sheets and blanket. Fortunately, the injuries weren't severe, and the bleeding had stopped on its own.
"Yu, go call Mo Xue and the others to help Buddy with his wounds," Mo Shu instructed Mo Yu, who was lighting a lamp.
Mo Yu nodded in response and hurried out.
At that moment, Yao Long and Death Apostle had also woken up. Seeing Mo Shu standing by my bed and the pool of crimson blood on the sheets, they quickly got out of bed and came over to ask what had happened.
I lay there and recounted the events of the previous night.
After hearing my story, Death Apostle looked bewildered, seemingly unaware of what had transpired and thinking he had been asleep all along.
Yao Long's expression mirrored that of Mo Lin when they first heard it—utter disbelief. However, Mo Shu seemed unfazed. He pulled a jujube from his pocket and unceremoniously stuffed it into my mouth. "You've lost so much blood; you need to replenish it." He then ate one himself.
"So, Mo Shu Senior, you also have a Void Spirit?" Death Apostle asked in surprise.
Mo Shu replied, "What Void Spirit do I have? Actually, I'm quite puzzled about this myself; I haven't figured out what's going on... What I can confirm is that every time I use Medium Gate to communicate with the Underworld for an extended period, I become another person. During that time, my memory is relatively hazy; I can only vaguely recall things. Right now, I suspect that my soul has been affected somehow, leading to some changes..."
"Perhaps I'll eventually understand it all. But for now, I don't want things to worsen, so I'm trying to minimize my use of Medium Gate and using Soulstone's effects to maintain my sanity as much as possible."
As Mo Shu finished speaking, Mo Yu entered with two of Mo Shu's female disciples.
Seeing them, Mo Shu addressed the woman who had previously argued with Li Zhisheng. "Mo Xue, please help him with his wounds."
Mo Xue nodded in agreement and approached me to examine the wounds on my arm.
After inspecting for a moment, a look of doubt crossed her face. "From your wounds, they appear cleanly cut, and both the entry and exit wounds show balanced force. It seems like the work of a skilled person. I remember you having some strength; how did you end up like this? Did you go out last night? Who injured you..."
Mo Xue asked in surprise while helping me disinfect my wounds. I hesitated for a moment, unsure how to respond; I couldn't just tell her that it was her master who had beaten me to this state.
Just as I was pondering whether to answer, Mo Shu proudly declared from the side, "It was indeed me!"
Upon hearing this, Mo Xue froze for a moment, and then her hand holding the alcohol bottle trembled, causing half a bottle of alcohol to spill onto my wound. The pain made me cry out.
Seeing this, she hurriedly wiped away the spilled alcohol and turned to look at Mo Shu behind her, asking, "Master, why did you have to beat him like this? Did he upset you?"
"Not really..." Mo Shu replied. "This Buddy is quite good; he keeps his word and bought me so many things. I should be thanking him instead... By the way, Xue, weren't you looking for a boyfriend? How about I take charge and you get together with him? That way, I'll have endless Jujubes to eat!"
Mo Xue was taken aback by this and quickly turned around, saying, "Master! Can you be serious for once..." As she turned, the alcohol bottle tipped over again.
This time, the entire bottle of disinfectant spilled onto my wound, making me nearly jump off the bed from the pain.
At that moment, beads of sweat were already dripping down my forehead. "Can't you just finish treating my wound before joking around? At this rate, I'm going to die at your hands!" I gritted my teeth and said.
Meanwhile, Yao Long and Death Apostle could no longer bear to watch; they covered their eyes with one hand and sat on the bed chatting.
"This is unbearable; just watching it makes my flesh ache."
"Exactly..."
I thought to myself, "What kind of friends have I made..."
After a long while, they finally finished treating my wound. By then, I was drenched in sweat, and the sheets were soaked through.
I slowly got off the bed. Although the pain hadn't subsided, for some reason, my mood had lightened.
"Thank you!" I smiled at Mo Xue as she responded and left the room with the supplies. At that moment, only I, Death Apostle, Yao Long, and Mo Shu remained in the room.
Mo Shu reached down to pick up the piece of grass paper I had brought back last night. His expression was slightly somber as he said, "Actually, I didn't tell you about this last night because I wasn't sure if the information I received was true."
Now, the expression on Mo Shu's face was completely different from when he had been joking earlier; he looked very serious.
"I know you are wary of me right now, especially after what happened last night. You might have even more doubts about me..."
Hearing him say this made me realize why he was reluctant to share the full situation with me. He probably thought I didn't trust him, and even if he told me, I would just think of other possibilities or misunderstand him.
Before he could finish, I looked up at him and said, "Aren't you also wary of us? It seems like you've told us a lot, but in reality, you've only shared part of the story, haven't you?"
I said this because I felt that there were some things I needed to clarify. Prolonging this would only deepen the misunderstandings. Rather than creating an imaginary enemy for myself, it was better to get to the bottom of things and see whether this remarkable person before me was friend or foe.
After listening to me, Mo Shu put down the piece of grass paper and glanced at Yao Long and Death Apostle, who were watching him intently. Finally, he turned his gaze back to me and said, "Since we've come this far, I won't hide it from you any longer. If you want to save yourself and others, you must kill your female friend; otherwise, she will bring about a great disaster that none of us here can prevent..."
