As we returned, Hu Fang hurriedly asked, "What happened? Did you find anything?"
"Don't ask. We didn't see a single soul; it was like we were haunted," I replied.
Upon hearing this, Hu Fang seemed a bit anxious. "So what do we do now? Death Apostle's fate is uncertain; we can't just watch him turn into a wooden statue, can we?"
Yao Long chimed in, "Yeah, think of something to help Mr. Death! At this rate, he might suffocate!"
"Suffocate? That shouldn't be the case. After all, his time should be stopped now, meaning he can't really be defined as a living being..." I shifted the conversation and continued, "Of course, this is just my and Li Zhisheng's speculation. We'll need to test it to know for sure."
"Test? How do we test it?" Yao Long asked eagerly.
"We'll go through the tunnel again!" I started the car and pressed the accelerator, driving towards the tunnel.
On the way, I was astonished to find that everyone around us in the city was frozen in place, just like Death Apostle in the back seat; even the cars on the road were similarly immobilized.
Looking at the various figures around us, resembling wax statues, Hu Fang couldn't help but laugh. "Look at those frozen people; they're hilarious..."
But Li Zhisheng and I in the front seat couldn't find anything funny about it. A sense of foreboding loomed over us like dark clouds, creating an unbearable feeling.
After a moment, we arrived at the tunnel entrance again. With a nervous heart, I drove slowly between the vehicles that were frozen around us and gradually approached the tunnel.
Just then, Li Zhisheng appeared uneasy. He hesitated and said, "Shen Xu, wait..." Hearing his words, I quickly stopped at the tunnel entrance.
He continued, "What if entering the tunnel doesn't restore time to normal but instead sends us back another hour to where we were before... If that happens, it might be even harder for us to return..."
After considering Li Zhisheng's words carefully, I began to understand his point. Although he didn't say it outright, I sensed he was implying that our current location might not be part of the real world; perhaps we had entered another realm due to time reversing.
If that's the case, then reversing time again could lead us into yet another layer of reality...
"I understand what you're getting at; isn't this just a concept of time and space? Each passage of time generates a new space. This space may look almost identical to what we see, but dynamic things within it pass by like slides. Do you think we're in such a space rather than a frozen version of reality?" I asked.
"No, it's not like that. I think you might be overcomplicating things. Just think simply: why are only those of us with special souls not frozen? You should be familiar with this scene; remember what you saw when you awakened Void Spirit?"
Li Zhisheng's words suddenly awakened me. "Underworld Gate?! Are we currently in the Underworld Gate?!"
"I think it should be like that. The so-called time reversal is very likely caused by passing through the Underworld Gate, and there should be an invisible Underworld Gate hidden within the tunnel!"
"If that's the case, then can't we just pass through the Underworld Gate again to get out? There's nothing to think about; we've been in and out of the Underworld Gate before." With that, I pressed the accelerator, making the car move forward.
"Regardless, we have to give it a try. Staying here any longer isn't a solution. I have a feeling something is about to happen, so we should leave as soon as possible..."
As we spoke, the car had already entered the tunnel, and the surrounding light gradually dimmed. I heard Li Zhisheng mumble beside me, "I hope we can leave like this..."
Everyone sat in the car with uneasy emotions, silently waiting for whatever might happen next. However, as the vehicle moved forward, I did not see anything unusual.
In the end, until the car completely exited the tunnel, nothing had occurred.
"How could this be? Is it because we entered at the wrong spot?!" I turned the car around and drove back and forth several times within the tunnel, about four hundred meters long, but nothing happened.
At this moment, Hu Fang couldn't sit still any longer. She said from the back seat, "Shen Xu, you've been driving in circles for quite a while now without any changes. At this rate, we'll run out of gas."
After hearing that, I glanced at the fuel gauge on the dashboard and replied, "We still have plenty of gas, but going around in circles like this isn't a solution..." I slowly pulled over to the side of the road at the tunnel entrance and got out of the car to look around.
At this time, there were only a few cars parked on the road nearby. The drivers and passengers inside were all frozen in their seats like wax figures, just like Death Apostle.
"There’s no danger here and no way out; it really leaves one puzzled..." I stood beside the open car door, scratching my head desperately while trying to think of a solution. I muttered to myself, "At this point, it would be better if an Evil Spirit appeared and fought me to death; otherwise, I'm going to go crazy."
Seeing that I was at a loss for what to do, Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng also got out of the car to check things out. Only Yao Long remained inside with Death Apostle.
"Think about what seems off here," Li Zhisheng said as he walked over to me.
Hu Fang looked at the cars on the road and replied, "Everything here seems off; there's nothing that feels right."
Upon hearing that, a spark of inspiration hit me. "Ah! Exactly! Because everything here feels wrong, those things that seem normal might actually be abnormal..."
“That dog?!” I exclaimed in unison with Li Zhisheng.
“Quick, let’s go back and find that dog. We might make some progress if we do!” I urged Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng to get in the car, and then I took my seat in the driver's seat.
I fastened my seatbelt, started the engine, and drove towards the place where we first encountered the dog.
Moments later, we returned to the spot where time had reversed. After parking the car, Death Apostle, Hu Fang, and I got out to search for the dog's traces, leaving Yao Long alone in the car to watch over Death Apostle.
As we searched around the area with its distinct ethnic-style houses, Hu Fang occasionally called out from behind us, “Doggy~ where are you?”
Just as we reached an alley between two houses, I caught a glimpse of a figure darting past from across the alley.
Although it moved quickly and I couldn't see clearly what it was, I could vaguely discern from its size that it must be that dog...
