As the blood surged in through the crack, the surroundings transformed into a sea of crimson, the sky itself stained red.
In an instant, I was submerged in this ocean of blood. I struggled desperately, but it was futile; the blood enveloping me was as thick as the mud in a swamp.
Soon, I sank deeper into it, and a strong, foul odor filled my nostrils and mouth.
For a moment, all I felt was an endless despair, completely overshadowing the peace and tranquility I had just experienced.
"What on earth is happening... Where am I..." I kept questioning myself, but as expected, I received no answers.
Just then, a voice echoed in my mind: "Shen Xu! Hey, you can't just disappear like this! Wake up!"
Upon hearing the voice, my vision suddenly blurred. The blood that had engulfed me vanished without a trace. All that remained was a desolate ruin made of flesh and a massive Flesh Monster looming before me.
"You finally woke up!" the Void Spirit gasped at me.
At that moment, I still felt somewhat dazed, my consciousness unclear. "What happened to me... What is going on..." I murmured groggily.
The Void Spirit was about to respond when a loud crash echoed. A gigantic hand suddenly slammed down in front of me, stirring up a cloud of Blood Mist.
The Void Spirit controlled my body to swiftly dodge aside and said, "If it weren't for me using all my strength to suppress you just now, you might never have returned to your former self..."
"Suppress me?" I asked in confusion.
While evading the monster's attacks, the Void Spirit explained, "There's no time for lengthy explanations now. In short, I put your soul into a dormant state, just like how I usually am. Right now, I'm running low on power. If you don't wake up soon, we might both perish here. So this is a gamble for our lives..."
With that, the Void Spirit hurriedly raised Jiang Ling in front of us. As a fierce wind howled, a massive fist struck Jiang Ling hard, sending us flying.
In mid-air, the Void Spirit weakly said to me, "Shen Xu, from here on out, it's all up to you. I really need to rest..."
"Wait! I don't have any power either! What can I do?!" Seeing the Void Spirit growing weaker by the moment made me anxious.
To my surprise, the Void Spirit smiled faintly—a smile so different from any before; it radiated peace without a hint of mockery or disdain.
"Do you remember? You once turned the tide in a desperate situation with your own determination and defeated eight spirits that seemed impossible to conquer at that time? In truth, not all your strength comes from me; much of it comes from deep within your own soul. I believe in you—you can do this..."
I felt the power of the Void Spirit gradually fading away. Before it completely vanished, it exhausted its last bit of strength to help me stand steadily on the ground, and then I fell into a deep sleep.
At that moment, I stood on the ruins made of flesh and blood, holding Jiang Ling in my hand, gazing at the massive monster just a hundred meters away from me.
Now, devoid of any power, I should have been filled with despair, yet I felt no hint of pessimism. "The Void Spirit is right; in the face of any adversity, true strength comes from within my heart. It is precisely because of this that I can survive in this cruel reality without any power..."
With that thought, I remembered the Sheepskin Book that the Void Spirit had tucked away. I took it out.
"If I can't fight with a sword, then I'll use a pen to battle instead..." With that, I sheathed Jiang Ling in my belt and picked up a piece of bone from the ground. Sitting down, I opened the Sheepskin Book and dipped the bone in the blood on the ground to start writing.
Due to recent events, the story I was supposed to finish had suddenly expanded. But I couldn't afford to think about that now; I buried my head in writing as fast as I could.
Just as I began to write, the ground started to tremble. I sensed that the enormous monster was closing in on me; it seemed to realize that I was doing something capable of completely destroying it, so its steps were noticeably quicker than before.
A distance of over a hundred meters can feel long or short. However, due to its massive size, each step it took was much wider. After just five tremors of the earth, the gigantic creature stood before me; I could even catch a glimpse of its colossal foot out of the corner of my eye.
Even so, I did not get up to run away because I knew that at this speed, having lost the power of the Void Spirit, running would be meaningless.
Understanding this, I continued to write my story in front of the towering monster. However, it would still take at least five more minutes to finish my tale—enough time for that creature to kill me thousands of times over.
As I thought about this, a gust of wind surged around me. The monster's enormous foot suddenly vanished from my sight; it must have lifted its leg to stomp on me.
In that critical moment, a series of urgent barks echoed from a distance. "It's it! The Yellow Dog!" I exclaimed as I slightly raised my head to see where the sound was coming from.
There was the Yellow Dog, barking frantically and sprinting towards me with all its might.
The monster was drawn by the noise and seemed to shift its attention, planning to deal with the dog first before coming after me. Seizing this opportunity, I quickened my pace and wrote furiously.
As I continued writing, loud crashing sounds erupted nearby, accompanied by waves of crimson Blood Mist surging towards me. Although I worried about the Yellow Dog, deep down I understood that if I stopped now, not only would it waste the little time it had bought for me but also seal my own fate.
...
Time passed second by second as crashing sounds echoed in my ears. Beads of sweat dripped from my forehead and rolled down my temples.
"Done!" I exclaimed, drawing the final period.
With the stroke of that period, the crashing sounds abruptly ceased, and the surroundings fell into a profound silence. I quickly got up to look, only to see the monster's raised foot about to stomp down on the Yellow Dog lying on the ground, barely alive. But at that moment, its movement was forever frozen.
Seeing this, I rushed over without hesitation, scooping up the bloody Yellow Dog and carrying it away from the monster.
At that moment, the monster's body began to collapse, shattering into countless pieces...
I couldn't afford to look back; I just held the Yellow Dog tightly in my arms, tears streaming down my face. Its chest rose and fell weakly, as if it were still alive, but in such a situation, what difference did it make?
"You silly dog, such a silly dog... We barely know each other; why did you have to help me?" I was already sobbing uncontrollably, my vision gradually blurring.
"Hey—Shen Xu, what's wrong? Why are you crying..." Just as my sight became hazy, I heard Yao Long's voice beside me. He gently patted my shoulder...
