The male passenger sitting in front of me seemed to sense something unusual, slowly raising his head.
At that moment, I faintly heard a series of hoarse sounds coming from his throat. It seemed he wanted to call for help but was too frightened to make a sound.
Seeing this, I wanted to stand up and pull the passenger away, but just as I got up, the female ghost suddenly leaped forward and darted into the man's open mouth.
Witnessing this scene, my eyes widened in shock. I wanted to rush forward to save him, but my feet felt like they were glued to the ground; I couldn't move at all.
"It looks like there's no saving him now... Good deeds are rewarded with good, and evil deeds with evil. It's not that retribution hasn't come yet; it's just not the right time. It seems this man must have done something harmful to attract the ghost's attention. With our abilities, there's nothing we can do to save him now," Li Zhisheng said, tugging at my sleeve and pulling me back down into my seat.
Sitting there, I sighed in fear and glanced toward the male passenger's seat. I saw him starting to convulse violently, as if he had gone mad, letting out pained groans.
"Are we really going to just watch him die?!" I asked anxiously.
"We have more important matters at hand and can't afford to complicate things further. From what we saw earlier, it seems the ghost was specifically targeting him. Everything in this world has its cause and effect; where there is a cause, there must be an effect. Although I don't know what he did, it must be his own doing. Besides, what do you plan to use to save him? I know you don't want to watch someone die without helping, but do you have a way to save him?"
Li Zhisheng's words left me speechless. Indeed, even if I went over now, I wouldn't be able to save him; instead, I might end up getting myself into trouble.
Thinking this over, I could only watch helplessly as the man continued to struggle in pain. The other two passengers on the bus seemed to be sound asleep, while the last one was also witnessing everything but made no move to intervene.
"Is everyone’s heart so cold?" I sighed inwardly but then realized that I had no right to judge them; after all, I was just an observer too.
However, if I intervened, it could lead to other complications. The situation with the Death Apostle was unclear; we needed to get him to Mo Shu Old Senior as quickly as possible for help. If we delayed any longer and something went wrong, not only would I feel guilty about it myself, but I'd also have no way to explain it to Yao Long.
Just then, I suddenly noticed that Li Zhisheng beside me was trembling uncontrollably. Seeing this, I quickly grabbed his arm and asked, "What's wrong?! Are you being possessed by the ghost too?"
"No... it's not that. There's something inside me..." Li Zhisheng replied with a pale face and a trembling voice.
"What is it?! Could it be...?" Before I could finish my sentence, a wave of black mist began to envelop him. The coldness of that mist was bone-chilling; my hand gripping his arm felt like it was about to freeze solid from the icy air.
"Could it be Xinzhu?! Is there something wrong with your Xinzhu?!" I exclaimed anxiously.
"I... I don't know..." Before Li Zhisheng could finish his sentence, I suddenly noticed lights appearing outside the car window. The lights appeared so abruptly that I couldn't react in time; my hand was still tightly gripping Li Zhisheng's arm, but now the dark aura surrounding him had vanished in an instant, and the chilling sensation had completely disappeared.
"What’s happening?!" I exclaimed in panic as I looked outside. To my shock, it seemed as if my consciousness had shifted; what I saw was the station we had departed from, and our vehicle had not even started moving.
"Could it be that I've foreseen danger again? No, my Void Spirit should just be exhausted and asleep; this shouldn't be happening," I muttered to myself.
"It shouldn't be your foresight because I saw it clearly too," Li Zhisheng said beside me, his expression one of astonishment.
"Quick, check on Hu Fang and the others!" Li Zhisheng urged me.
Since I was sitting near the aisle, I quickly turned to look at the seats where Hu Fang and the others were. At that moment, there was no sign of Hu Fang; only Death Apostle sat alone in the back row, wearing a strange smile.
"Death Apostle, are you all okay? Where's Hu Fang?!" I shouted towards the back.
Death Apostle did not respond to me but instead let out a series of eerie laughs: "Heh heh, so Xinzhu is with you after all. It seems my guess was correct; you didn't tell me the truth. Luckily, I kept a backup plan..."
Hearing this, I was startled; the voice speaking was not Death Apostle's at all—it sounded more like Sun Warrior Leader's voice from before.
"What’s going on?! How can it be you?!" Li Zhisheng and I immediately stood up from our seats, watching the unusual Death Apostle in the back with caution.
"Why can't it be me? You’re allowed to play tricks, but I'm not allowed to use schemes?" Death Apostle said as he suddenly stood up. In an instant, he swayed and appeared beside us, grabbing both of our shoulders and tossing us out of the car window.
With a sharp sound of shattering glass, Li Zhisheng and I fell heavily to the ground.
"Li Zhisheng, are you okay?" I struggled to get up from the ground and helped Li Zhisheng to his feet.
"What on earth is happening? Why are we back before we departed?" Li Zhisheng asked.
At that moment, Death Apostle also stepped out of the car and approached us. He smirked and said, "Don't know where this is? Then let me show you! Pay attention!"
He let out a loud roar and stretched out his hand. In an instant, a powerful and invisible force emerged from his palm. Even without summoning the Void Spirit, I could still feel an unprecedented sense of pressure, one that even Gu Kai, in all his might, had never inflicted upon me.
Seeing this, Li Zhisheng and I quickly retreated. The Death Apostle hurled the formless power into the sky with great force.
In a moment, the winds changed, and deafening thunderclaps echoed around us. Before Li Zhisheng and I could react, a massive foot made of flesh descended from above, crashing down with a resounding thud.
The impact was tremendous, kicking up clouds of dust. Fragments of stone and debris were sent flying in all directions.
Fearing injury from the flying rubble, Li Zhisheng and I hurriedly crouched down, shielding our heads with our hands.
Amidst the dust, the voice of the Sun Warrior Leader rang out again: "Open your eyes and see; this is the true form of Xinzhu..."
With his words came another loud crash. This impact felt alarmingly close, and the shockwave knocked us to the ground.
