At that moment, the Sun Warrior Leader heard my words and calmly replied, "No, Shen Xu, you are mistaken... Your death will not bring an end to this. The consciousness of the God King is indestructible, and his power originates from the Spirit of All Things. Even if you were to disappear, the God King would still exist, and his power would not dissipate because of your absence..."
"You must understand that human greed knows no bounds. If the God King falls into the hands of those with malicious intent, it would not only bring disaster to the world but could also enslave all of humanity."
"What can I do?! Are we just going to let the God King awaken like this?!" At that moment, I lost my composure again, slamming my hand on the table and standing up. "In the end, I can't save anyone! Not even myself!"
"There's no need to be so anxious; we haven't reached a life-or-death situation yet. There are ways to handle this, but..." The Sun Warrior Leader paused for a moment, appearing somewhat hesitant.
"What way? Tell me quickly," I pressed.
"However, you need to break the remaining two mounds of Auxiliary and Governance among the three left, and then leave the last mound within you, the Ghost Star Mound. After that, leave everything else to me..." With that, the Sun Warrior Leader calmly shook his Long Robe and began eating the delicious food in front of him as if my emotional outburst had no effect on him at all. It seemed he had already anticipated everything.
I stood by the table, contemplating. "Why should I trust you?"
"Why?" The Sun Warrior Leader scoffed lightly. "Do you think you have any choices left? Let me be frank with you: those who seek to slay the path are part of a faction that once separated from the Yin Master. They fall under the jurisdiction of the Yin Master. Although the Yin Master has nearly perished now and those who slay the path are leaderless, their thirst for boundless power has not diminished. If you don't believe me, then you'll have to believe them; it's your choice."
With that, he did not lift his head and continued eating his meal.
"Am I really supposed to take this person's word for it? If what he says is true, then it means Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng are in danger right now. But if it's not true, then why?" I thought as I turned my gaze toward my parents.
They looked at me and nodded slightly, as if encouraging me to believe the Sun Warrior Leader's words.
Seeing this, I steeled myself and said, "Since we've come this far, there's no need for me to hesitate any longer. I agree to join you; however, I have one condition..."
Though I said this, what I truly intended was to appear agreeable on the surface so that I could infiltrate the Yang Master’s inner circle for investigation. Whether or not I would ultimately align with him would depend on what I discovered.
As I contemplated this plan, I noticed that upon hearing my words, the Sun Warrior Leader was slightly taken aback. He set down his utensils and revealed a faint smile. "I thought you would need a lot of time to think it over; I didn't expect you to agree so readily. Good!"
"Good," he raised his hands in front of him and lightly clapped, "Bring the wine!" He then turned his gaze to me and asked, "What are your conditions?"
I replied, "My condition is simple: you must guarantee that you won't harm my friends!"
"Alright, no problem. I promise you!" the Sun Warrior Leader answered readily.
As soon as he finished speaking, Er Ye entered from a side door with several attendants carrying wine. Upon seeing the Sun Warrior Leader, he approached with a grin and said, "Dad, is everything going smoothly?"
The Sun Warrior Leader responded with a smile, "What do you think? If it weren't going well, would I ask you to bring wine?" He pointed at me and continued, "Now, this brother Shen Xu is one of our Yang Master’s people. His status is second only to mine. From now on, you should show him more respect and not be negligent. Understood?"
Upon hearing that my status was second only to the Sun Warrior Leader's, Er Ye's previously cheerful expression immediately darkened. He hurriedly said, "Dad, you can't be serious..."
Before he could finish, the Sun Warrior Leader interrupted him sharply, "Shut up! I am serious. Go! Pour wine for Shen."
Though reluctant, Er Ye saw that the Sun Warrior Leader's words were firm and indisputable. He didn't dare to say more for fear of angering the leader.
With a disgruntled expression, he snatched a bottle of red wine from one of his attendants and walked over to me with a look full of grievance, preparing to pour me a drink.
Seeing his current demeanor and recalling the arrogant and disdainful expression he had when I encountered him at home earlier made me feel quite pleased.
"How does it feel? Now I'm your superior," I said while glancing at Er Ye as I slowly sat down.
Er Ye ignored me and focused on filling the wine glass. Then he shot me a glare filled with barely concealed malice and sneered softly, "Don't get too cocky just yet; there will come a time when you'll fall into my hands..."
His words were light but carried weight; each word resonated in my ears. The chilling tone sent shivers down my spine.
"You..." I pointed at him, about to speak when he interrupted with a smile, "Please enjoy, sir. This is our dad's prized vintage that he's kept for many years." With that, he turned away and poured a glass for my parents as well. Then he approached the Sun Warrior Leader respectfully and poured him a glass too.
Afterward, the Sun Warrior Leader raised his glass and said, "Come on, Shen Xu, my brother, and to our elders, let’s celebrate our becoming one family."
Hearing this, I looked at my parents. They had already raised their glasses before me, but their expressions remained somewhat somber. I couldn't tell if it was due to lingering worries or the emotions from earlier.
“Mom, Dad, it’s alright. I’m here with you, so don’t worry,” I comforted them while raising my glass. I also casually echoed a few words to the Sun Warrior Leader before setting my glass down without drinking.
“Come on, everyone, don’t be shy. Eat up! You must be hungry too. We’ve been talking so much that the food is getting cold… Er Ye, can you go have them prepare a few more dishes?”
“It’s fine, really. I’ll just eat a little…” Even though I still had reservations about the Sun Warrior Leader, my stomach was already growling with hunger. Seeing that he had eaten some already gave me a bit of reassurance, so I began to eat.
Moments later, after several rounds of drinks and dishes, I felt quite full. Yet for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to put down my chopsticks and continued to savor the beautifully presented meat dishes in front of me.
“Is it really just because I'm too hungry? Why do I feel like I can’t get enough of this meat? What kind of meat is this…” I mumbled to myself as I stuffed more food into my mouth.
