I don't know how long it had been, but a sudden, intense headache jolted me awake from my slumber.
"Why does my head hurt so much..." I murmured to myself as I opened my eyes. A wave of fragrance immediately hit me; it wasn't the scent of flowers, but rather a peculiar woody aroma that filled the air around me.
I rubbed my temples vigorously and climbed out of bed. As I focused my gaze, I realized I was in a spacious square room. The brown stone walls were intricately carved with beautiful patterns, and exquisite wooden furniture stood around the room.
What struck me as odd was that the wood used for the furniture appeared to be anything but ordinary; it gleamed with a golden hue, subtly revealing a texture reminiscent of golden threads.
"Could this scent be emanating from the furniture?" I wondered aloud.
At that moment, the voice of the Sun Warrior Leader came from outside the room. He approached the door with heavy footsteps and smiled, "It's surprising that you, who are in the gold business, don't know this. These pieces are made from top-quality Golden Silk Nanmu; they are worth as much as gold."
Hearing the Sun Warrior Leader's words, I felt like I had heard that name somewhere before, but I couldn't quite recall. I just held my throbbing head and asked, "What happened? Why am I here? Last night..."
I was about to try to remember what happened last night when the Sun Warrior Leader interrupted me, "You drank too much last night. I brought you here. Here, have some water..."
With that, he pulled out a delicate glass cup filled with clear water from behind his back.
He walked over to me with the water. As I looked at the clear liquid in the cup, vague memories of last night began to surface in my mind...
I thought to myself, could it be that I was once again schemed against by this Old Fox? Was it possible that the drink he held contained something mixed in? Or perhaps both drinks were...
With this thought, clarity washed over me. I pushed away the water offered by the Sun Warrior Leader and said firmly, "Where are my parents? I want to see them."
"Unfortunately..." The Sun Warrior Leader feigned regret as he replied, "They aren't here right now; they just went out for a walk. Come on, they're in great health! They got up early, had something to eat, and then went with Er Ye to the Mountain for some fresh air. They probably won't be back for a while. Why don't you eat something while you wait for them?"
"No thanks, I'm not hungry. I want to walk around..." A strange feeling nagged at me; my parents weren't particularly active people. My father would usually just go out to play chess with the neighbor, while my mother preferred watching TV or knitting at home. How could they suddenly have such leisure?
Something was off; the Sun Warrior Leader must be lying...
But why would he want to prevent me from seeing my parents? Was there something else hidden beneath all this?
Thinking about it, I left the room and walked through a long corridor adorned with luxurious decorations, returning to the dining hall where I had eaten last night. At this moment, the hall was empty, with only me and the Sun Warrior Leader standing nearby.
I turned to the Sun Warrior Leader, who had been following me closely, and said, "So, are you planning to follow me like this all the time? Don't you have anything else to take care of?"
The Sun Warrior Leader slightly lowered his head and glanced at the cup of water in his hand. "I have hundreds of rooms and dozens of compartments here. I'm afraid you might get lost."
Upon hearing this, I replied, "Lost? Even if I did get lost, I would still be on your territory. Are you really worried that I would run away?"
"Not exactly, but since you've said that, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to keep following you. You can explore on your own for now; I won't accompany you." With that, the Sun Warrior Leader turned and walked away.
Watching him slowly fade into the distance, I thought to myself, "It seems that the Sun Warrior Leader's motivation for wanting me to join them is definitely not as simple as he claims. There must be something more going on here, and my parents have been acting strangely since I saw them yesterday... No, I need to check it out..."
With that thought in mind, after the Sun Warrior Leader entered another door on the side of the hall, I quickly headed towards the left side of the hall—the door through which my parents had been taken.
Pushing open another door made of Golden Silk Nanmu, I followed a narrow and winding path. However, as I ventured deeper, an unsettling feeling washed over me.
This passage was completely different from the one I had come out of from my bedroom; there were no decorations around, and a faint stench lingered in the air—like the smell of rotting meat.
"No wonder that Old Fox didn't want me to come here; this place can't be good. It might even be a prison or something..." I muttered to myself cautiously as I moved forward.
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed through the empty passageway, as if someone had entered and was quickly approaching me.
Hearing this, I turned around. Since I had just rounded a corner, all I could see behind me were cold walls and candelabras—nothing else.
Instinctively, I quickened my pace, eager to get ahead of whoever was coming up behind me.
However, as my steps grew faster, the footsteps behind me also became more urgent; it seemed that the person was already at the corner and would see me as soon as they turned.
Now even more anxious, I felt like a thief desperately looking around for a place to hide. But since the passage wasn't very wide and surrounded by walls on all sides, there was nowhere to conceal myself.
As the sound of footsteps approached the corner, I suddenly remembered something. "Right, I'm currently at Fifth Level in Yang Master, so why should I feel so guilty?"
Thinking this, I took a deep breath to calm my anxious emotions. I shook my leather jacket and deliberately slowed my pace, walking forward slowly.
"Shen... Shen Xu, right?" a man's voice suddenly called out from behind, panting heavily.
I feigned calmness and turned around. "That's me. What’s up?"
I sized up the man standing by the corner, catching his breath. He wore a plain brown jacket and dark jeans, and his thin frame made his clothes look baggy.
After a moment, he steadied his breath and said, "Shen, the leader sent me to find you. He asked me to give you a tour of this place."
"Oh, is that so? The leader is really thoughtful..." I said outwardly, but inwardly I thought, "That Old Fox isn't watching me himself; instead, he sent someone else to keep an eye on me..."
